Hopefully we'll see more reviews like this.

"Little King’s Story is a game of stunning breadth, imagination and slickly implemented design, and filled with an envious degree of heart and soul. While many may dismiss royalty as being little more than a drain on the taxpayer, with Little King’s Story Cing and Town Factory have undoubtedly produced a monarch more than worthy of his crown."

I'd also be surprised if this game sold over 100,000 or even close to it. I would thinkmore like 50-60k would be the correct ball park.
I'm not interested in it, but I'm glad it's a new exclusive the Wii gets. I just find it sad that it will fail.
Maybe I'll be wrong, but I just fear it won't do very well. Maybe that's why they went with the cute art style, grab kiddies and youngins in, as well as the forum hawks with this great gameplay.
do you really think deadly creatures(sold 70k in 2 months) will sell better than the properly advertised and higher reviewed Lks?I personally doubt it.In fact, Madworld is a niche game (brawler for 17+ years old one and its around 200k in 2 months.I mean even Rune factory frontier is around the 70k mark in 2 months...Titles that sold 150k in 2 months include...World at war...Now well over a million..Or House of the dead 1,2,3.Dunno, 100k seems possible for a month, which is alright. But games keep selling after a month.I'd also be surprised if this game sold over 100,000 or even close to it. i wouldnt give it a 10...but its an excellent game and i would recommend it to anyone, young(ish) and old. the only thing that annoys be about the game is that the dev, for some bizarre reason, didnt use the pointer to control the direction u fire enemies. the current system is quite fiddily. its times like this that i wish ninty permitted patches. such a little thing would add immensely to the game. but yeah...overall a class game. i got my brand spanking new copy got 35 euro also which is a steal imho.osan0
after playing it didnt you had the sensation that it could be too easy and lesschallenging with pointer??
when you had to aim, sometimesyou had to get closer to an enemy, those were the moments where you could be hurt and BTW themoments you needed more skills
at first I wasdisappointed about no pointer, but then i find it more fun and challenging moving the king for aiming
does this website count on Metacritic??
BTW I have no doubt this will be the Wii game of the year (IMO is the best Wii game I've ever played)
and when that happend it will sell very well, I spec its a long seller

Yes, that's how I found out that D+Pad gave it a perfect score, by going to Metacritic. It's average now is an 89.

The art style is what's killing it. This game would be so much more popular if they had gone for some realism.[QUOTE="osan0"]i wouldnt give it a 10...but its an excellent game and i would recommend it to anyone, young(ish) and old. the only thing that annoys be about the game is that the dev, for some bizarre reason, didnt use the pointer to control the direction u fire enemies. the current system is quite fiddily. its times like this that i wish ninty permitted patches. such a little thing would add immensely to the game. but yeah...overall a class game. i got my brand spanking new copy got 35 euro also which is a steal imho.hansolo14

If that's the case, the developer could have easily figured out a way to re-balance the game.Maybe that's why they went with the cute art style, grab kiddies and youngins in, as well as the forum hawks with this great gameplay.danger_ranger95
But then, it has a T rating, so that negates it. :P
That's not the reason though. It's more of an ironic artistic and story-telling style. The story and art style are supposed to represent the way that the king sees what he's doing. "Oh, I'm spreading Joy and happiness! HURRAY FOR ME! :D" When in reality, it's more like "Oh, I'm enslaving these people, stealing people's wives and marrying several of them at the same time, and taking over the world one kingdom at a time. Who cares if all these people are unhappy, dying, and woudln't be following me if I didn't have this "happy little" tyrant's crown which allows me to boss them around? They're doing my work, and that's all that matters." I love what it's doing with the contrast between the two. Though I do think it will probably make some people not buy it, and it will unfortunately suffer a bit in sales, I'm glad that they're doing it this way because it just adds to an already great looking game.
Sounds awesome. Definitely a contender for wii game of the year.

the art style is part of the plot, so its how it should be
I dont care if this game only sells 100k, the game is good as it is and its what makes this game so special
luckily I didnt missed this only for it artstyle, again smart people wins

No, no, no, no, no!!!!!!! I don't want this to turn into another Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk game, or anything that comes out every 1-2 years forever until the end of time. :x The thing about the Wii is that we get fresh ideas in a lot of games. Little King's Story is one of those games. It's new, it's fresh. Come out with another one in a couple years, fine. Come out with a third one, it's starting to push the idea too far, unless if they come up with something to really add to the idea. But honestly, I'd rather have other unique games for the Wii. The people who are making this game could end up making something else equally, or even more interesting than this if they put their mind to it. Or, they could drive this idea into the ground until I wish I never saw it again. Again, the only times when this isn't the case for a series is when the people making it are able to put something fresh into each game, and that's something very rare for the industry. The only company I can think of that does this a fair enough are Nintendo (look at how great the Mario series is holding up), but even they suffer from this (Animal Crossing, and games like Twilight Princess are getting to the point where many of the fans complain about it feeling too much like an OOT plus, though I personally liiked it). The point is, unless if they can do that, I'd rather have just one unique game like Little King's Story than a LKS2, LKS3, LKS4, etc. And I'd rather have them keep the ironic art style, which does add a lot to the game's presentation than try to cater to the people who want a more interesting, and less meaningful style. I want to experience how the devs intended it to be.
But making the king look like a teenager or something wouldn't have made it less interesting or fitting. In fact it would probably be funnier and more fitting, because many real-life kings were teens when they assumed the throne. And it would certainly be more interesting to a wider range of people. Cuz right now it kinda looks like this game and for its target audience... clicketyclickI really haven't thought that much about the age of the character TBH. But now that I am thinking about it, I think it's meant to add a kind of innocence that wouldn't be there for any other age, even if he was in his teens. Kind of like how the cutesy art style is supposed to contrast the more serious side of the game, and make you wonder "How could something so cute and 'Kiddie' be T-rated?" and kind of masks the actual substance, the king being a kid is supposed to add to that feeling. How could such a cute kid enslave these people, take over these lands, and steal these people's wives, etc? It just adds to the contrast in the game.

Hyperbole can be a powerful tool.

I don't think the irony is as great as you think it is (or necessarily intended) - the game is rated "7 and up" in Europe. There's kidnapping of princesses I think, but he doesn't enslave people or whatnot. It's just a Civilization sim. But with a child protagonist, and one smack dab on the cover who looks like he's playing dress-up, it looks like a game for preschoolers, which is the point I'm trying to make by saying it looks like Dora the Explorer - both have main characters that are little kids, and are the age of their intended audience.
I really can't think of many games with child protagonists that aren't games intended for children. That's why it sends the wrong message.

What audience is A Boy and His Blob meant for? Either way I do not see this game selling well because the deeper gameplay will alienate younger audiences and the style will push insecure people away from this game. Being that the gaming industry strives off insercurity I do not expect LKS to be a platinum hit.[QUOTE="Hungry_Homer111"] I really haven't thought that much about the age of the character TBH. The problem of what you say is the game is not for young children. Like Hungry_Homer said, the game is rated T in NA. If the summary is true, you may judge the game just by the looks.
Here's the proof from theESRB website:
Little King's Story
Platform: Wii
Rating: Teen
Content descriptors: Crude Humor, Mild Cartoon Violence, Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol
Rating summary: This is an adventure role-playing game (RPG) in which players control a young king whose goal is to expand his kingdom by defeating enemies and bosses. Set in a colorful, whimsical environment, the game allows players to send small soldiers to attack "cartoony" enemies, including cows, snails, sheep, giant rats, and humanoid bosses. One boss creature has a fire-breathing attack, while a giant rat boss attacks with yellow gas and brown pellets, which are emitted from its rear. During the course of the game, characters make some suggestive comments (e.g., "Sweat becomes sexy only after the lights go out") and engage in sexual innuendo (e.g., "Princess Spumoni is so kind; she let me go to town on that big mound of hers...If I tried to eat anymore of that ice cream, I would've exploded!"). The central character also has multiple wives, one of whom has exaggerated-sized breasts and exposed cleavage. One cutscene depicts a boss character that slurs his speech and appears to be drunk. Holding a green bottle and slapping his "beer belly," the man offers a toast: "I hope the whole world gets drunk...Cheers."

I dont want to spoil anything from my experience with the game but i can tell you that the hole plot is based on its charming look
they start telling you atypical story (15% of the game)that explains youwhat are you doing there but then the plot comes insane!! and you start to realise whats your goal andhow far it is,a huge task you wont regret cause the game gets better and better as go through, it never gets boring or repetitive
also I think its not a kids game at all, kids could appreciate it? yes, but in easy mode cause the game is challenging and reallychallenging at times, the boss-fightswere the most memorable ones I've seen this year so far
It have an accessible gameplay and the controls work very well for a consoleRTS but dont get me wrong, it have an indeed gameplay whatactuallymakes you really love this game, the sim part is there but doesnt matter at all.
at the end i must admit that its presentation and storyis what crowns it as an AAA
At the moment the reviews are saying itand I'm sure that they will continue praising it, that's what have to make it sale, not it looking or it rating at all

But I don't think it will. Even the highest praised didn't make GTA a hit on DS. You just cannot rely on high ratings to move games when it comes to Wii and DS. The majority of Wii and DS owners apparently don't care for or know about game review sites.
I'll get it for sure, but I just think it's unfortunate that they couldn't make the game look a little bit less kiddy especially considering that you said that the story and presentation are what makes the game so great. The age of the character then is not integral to the game in a meaningful way. :( Argh I'm jealous you have it already. How many hours have you put in so far?

32 hours to complete it and now 39 searching for all the collectibles but I'm almost there XD
I'm enjoying it so much that I mind replaying it at hard until Punch Out comes out :P
China Towns have a lot of legs IMO, I hope these one reach 350k at least.
