Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is Pokemon for mature gamers...and it's better...

I used to love Pokemon back in the day (like we all probably did), and even though I enjoyed Pokemon Diamond for the DS...I felt like I grew out of it and it wasn't the same. But that addictive gameplay is still solid and that's where DQM: Joker comes in.

Between these two games I choose DQM: Joker as the better game. The 3D engine is amazing first of all and it's incredible what Square-Enix did with the DS. Also, the monster battle-system is exactly like Dragon Quest games so it's basically two games in one, Pokemon + Dragon Quest.

And most of all, I don't feel embarrased to play DQM: Joker in public. I don't have to cover up the screen whenever Pikachu squeels. And also, training a Slime is much better than training Pikachu or any of the other Pokemon.

Even though nothing will be better than a numbered DQ game, Monsters Joker will be a good fill-in until then.

Sorry but you're saying his to tons of pok'emon fans here and I think that you're kinda givig them a fireball (if you know what I mean) and mature games only teach you bad stuff unlike the user friendly, non-bad teachable stuff. Dude come on a slime? Grimer is one and so is Muk so you're not really being on the dot here. You're gonna get burned by pokemon fans for this

I own them both too and Pokemon is the better game by leaps and bounds IMO. DQMJ feels...broken a little. There's way too much level grinding and it is very frustrating at parts because you need to waste many hours grinding and synthesizing monsters.It just seems like a crappy way to raise your play time on it. Right now I have 992 hours on Pokemon and only 20 on DQMJ.

well the online tournament is insane and tells you to never use it again. I remember people crying about 5 hack teams on the top rank.

I wasted lots of my time leveling and what i get is to fight hacked monsters. Atleast in pokemon i can still get rare monsters from others online not like DQM:J.

Wow, a bit uber defensive, don't you think? He wasn't attacking pokemon fans the world over, he was just saying that DQMJ had more of the "spark" he was looking for in the game. And I feel the same. I grew up on Pokemon Red and Silver mostly, and I was about 9 years old at the time. After a decade that Pokemon's been around, we're in the fourth generation, and yet it still feels... I dunno... a little retro gameboy. Don't get me wrong, I loved Diamond. I've had it since it came out. I haven't beaten it yet. I've had DQMJ since it came out too. I've beaten it, and now I'm working on... the postgame content. Sure there's a good deal of level grinding, metal killing, monster synthesizing and scouting, but that's a lot of what I liked about it too. Pokemon's still largely limited to one-on-one battles and it had a much more medieval skill system. These are both the fourth generation games in their respective series, and even though Pokemon's been around for a lot longer, I feel DQMJ has come the longer way. Hopefully in the future they'll flesh out more of everything else in that series. But overall, these are all OPINIONS and they should be taken as such. Oh, and to the fire link guy who said Grimer and Muk are slimes... Slimes are DW/DQ monsters, and they're one of the most recognizable monsters in console RPG history. Grimer ain't got nothing on Rocket! ;)

I see this troll guy, I go up to it we battle his first it kills me, it did 83! lmao.DQMJ is good, not as good as the past games Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 FTW! I never remembered DWM being so hard. lol I mean cobi's Adventure had a progressive leveling system, also Im not sure what happened, but DWM had more then one attack command(Fight is all that is in DQM)Minishdriveby

LOL, that's because you fought a rare monster. It's the blue giant guy with one eye, right? Yeah, he shows up once in awhile. But the rest of the smaller monsters are all weak on the first two islands.

It's like any RPG. You go to a place you shouldn't be and the monsters are at a higher level. If you go where you're supposed to the game is a breeze and balanced. I'm 2 hours in and I'm collecting monsters as I go.

lol I know my friend was watching and he was like WTF just happened and we cracked up. I havent been playing so I just passed that island. I need to play it over the weekend or something, I've just had a lot of schoolwork.

Like someone else mentioned, I think a lot of the reason that Pokemon is considered a kids' game, is that it's tied into the cartoon show, as well as all the toys that are readily available at any Walmart. That they're all essentially the same game with different colour titles, doesn't help the perception. That being said, I loves me some Pokemon, and I'm not ashamed to play in public, no matter how much Pikachu squeels.

I'm LMAOing right here at that! I'm love Pokemon and enjjoy it very much but everyone is entitled to their own opinion if they present it in a mature way. (Which I think I did earlier) Don't get so fired up. You're actually embarrassing us Pokemon fans. Both are quality games though and worth picking up. I just think DQMJ is only worth a regular DS game price of $35 or $30 instead of $40. Thank goodnees my GameCrazy was selling it for only $35.

Your proving his point with this post>_> getting all defensive. Jeez, obsession is not healthy. I liked pokemon since I was 6, I bought Pearl, and I played it for a month. Its just not the same. I'd say that DQM is more for the Hardcore RPGers. Pokemon is baby steps.

I beat Pokemon Pearl. Three times. I restarted the game. Three times. It was fun while it lasted, but then again, DQMJ will also be fun while it lasts.

Also, these two games are almost nothing alike. You can't name your monster Pokemon, I tried. :P

The only reason that the game is recoginized as kiddie is because the show is so lame. If you forget about the show then u have a great rpg on ur hands. I cant wait 2 get joker its awesome but sadly i live in NZ and it doesnt release here till next year.cloud31blunt

If you've never played a DQ/DW game before, Joker is still a good choice. The decision between this and Pokemon has to do with your taste in games. If you're more interested in an old-school, level grinding RPG (minus random battles, which is nice) then you'll want to take Joker over Pokemon. Joker also has much more room for customization, in that you choose which skills you want your monsters to have. If youprefer collecting monsters over fighting then stick with Pokemon. As for my own opinion of each game (and yes, I've played them all) it basically boils down to this:

Pokemon Red/Blue > DWM

DQMJ > Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

If you grew up on SNES RPGs, like I did, then you'll most likely have a blast with DQMJ. It's a great game. Now if you'll excuse me, my Alabast Dragon is calling...

You people just don't have the guts to go around looking for 450 different types of characters. I think people who play that and "collect them all" worked really hard. WITHOUT CHEATS MIND YOU! and spent days trying it even months! And there are type matchups and if you're not smart enough what beats what you'll lose guarenteed. It helps with math, freindship, Intellect, thought, perserverence, and especially pateince. Shame on yall not having any of it.

Neither is more mature. The only reason Pokemon is considered childish is because of the cartoon. The cartoon has nothing to do with the game.

Which one is better is all a matter of opinion. Personally I dont like the look of the game and Im not interested in the story of DQM.
