I dropped my Nintendo DSi... Now, what am I supposed to do? Here's what happened: I was holding it closed and my sister knocked it out of my hands. It hit ground and its top lid opened on impact. It still works, and everything looks right, like if nothings broken but the hinge now makes a squeaky noise when I open and close it... Should I get it repaired by Nintendo? They charge so much.

But repairing it is probably not free, and plus it would take time, I mean if it is a bit lose, it is not a big problem.

Do you buy a warranty? If so, just return it and exchange for a new one if it bothers you that much. :)

7-9 depending on the force his sister hit it with, and without factoring in wind velocity. Had he have had the DS open, it would then be 5 hours.

Repairing it takes a long time and a bit of money, so I'd say just stick with it until it gets really irritating.

LISTEN TO ME :) Most likely the hindge is just a bit out of place and is rubbing when you open and close it. All you have to do is open it up and that will take the tension off the hindge then move the hindge around and screw it back together. Its not like your touching the circuit borad or anything, all your doing is just loosening it and moving the hindge with your hand then tightening it back up :D

Just so you know, it doesn't always explode like i've read. My son dropped mine from about 4 feet in the air and it didn't explode after 5 hours. The only thing that happened at all is that sometimes it will leak that red gooey stuff from around the edges of the top screen.

Well, one day it will explode and leak that red gooey stuff all over your room. Don't play games, bury it in cement now.

Jeez, if people only knew the forces they are playing with here.

That reminds me:

I dropped mine in the locker room (from waist height), it bounced off the side and bounced up like 2 feet, then bounced again, and landed on it's side. It was awesome!

Also, there was no damage at all.

I think you might have a free 1 year warranty on it...If so, if it shows obvious damage, you could send it in for free to be fixed...

But I don't think warranty covers if you inflicted the damage on the DS by yourself. But maybe you could convince the DS got depressed and jumped off the table or something. But then they would probably just tell you should have been better friends with your DS. Or fed it Prozac cartridges.

Yup. Still got warranty. But from what I heard, Nintendo Australia's Customer Service sucks so bad. They got no email, only phone - they accuse me its that its my fault... and they repeat the same thing over again and again (that the hinge is supposed to do that). I then have to send my DSi to some forsaken service centre in Victoria and pay for the shipping costs. They won't let me drive there and give it to them. What's worse is they charge inspection fees and if the techy says theres nothing wrong if it - you still have to pay. Dell's warranty was better. btw, the ds doesnt look broken. its just the hinge inside.
