Thinkabout it! Metroid Prime was able to handle amazing 3d in only a limitation of 64mb space. The current amount that Nintendo has 'officially' set for games is 128mb, DOUBLE of that! But with these amazing flash carts out nowadays, the SAME size of a regular DS game cart, the DS can hold up to 8gb or even 16gb! THINK about the POSSIBILITIES! It's definitely possible to store a lot of textures, audio, cutscenes, etc. on that kind of space, and Rockstar never dissapoints.

P.S. GTA has always been known to set the bar on several previous consoles.

I'm 80% positive that they will use a top-down view like the older GTAs. So don't expect it to be something like the PSP GTAs.

Yeah, but that's what we keep getting. POSSIBILITIES! It's always possibilities. We need facts! Only time will tell how Rockstar will proceed with this project. We all want to know how GTA DS will turn out. But, possibilities won't tell us how Rockstar will do this. There hasn't been anything announced how this will come out, so there is no reason for going around saying that GTA will be 3-Dimensional!

Considering that the DS already has a 3D sandbox game I don't think anyone was wondering if it could be done.

Yes, all I'm saying is that this game has unlimited potential, if they manage to use the same space that the flash/mod carts use. With 2/4/8 gb of space to work with, even if it is top down, the amount of content in there would me amazing!

nintendo would never have a 4 or 8 gb game, it would cost far too much for the card alone. they would have to charge 40 or 50 dollars to make enough profit for the seller, nintendo, and the developers

We'll soon see what happens, but I still don't think it will be your typical GTA game. The title alone suggests it will be some sort of spin-off to the series. I bet it's more like Smugglers Run in a smallish city district (i.e Chinatown). If i'm right, it wouldn't really matter if it were 2D or 3D, because people will still complain lol.

The DS can handle a 3D GTA but it would look be glitchey and really small. 2D or 2.5D for the win.

Its already confirmed the game will be 3D. I do agree that more space can be put in the gamecart, not sure why they have not done it already. GTA: Chinatown Wars will be fine.

This coming from a PSP fan and owner. Its you guys turn to have a GTA, we had 2 already. Peace & Love

Have you guys seen or played Star Wars: Lethal Alliance? They could make GTA a 3D game, like Lethal Alliance a good third person shooter with 3D graphics.

I think you are wrong. Play several games like COD4 and Dementium: the Ward, and you'll see. The DS can easily handle a beautiful 3d GTA. Even the GBA had a 3d driver, which looked good for that system. A 2d GTA would be lame, and wouldn't be nearly as much fun as a real GTA.

Rockstar never dissapoints.mvp_153

I understand what you're saying and the DS could handle it with the enhanced DS Carts if they used Flash cards inside of them but I disagree with you when you say Rockstar never Dissappoints. Rockstar has Dissappointed numerous times just like every other company. Take "State of Emergency" for example. That game was fun for about 30 minutes. Another example is Oni, while Oni was a decent title, it didn't grab many people's attention and the controls were horrid, another example is The Warriors, that game HAD potential but it could have been waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy better especially since it was modeled after the old great movie, and a few other titles I won't mnntion. Rockstar DOES dissappoint sometimes. Oh and I think GTACT will be Cell Shaded instead of 3D. I can easily see that way before 3D, Unless they Enhance the DS Game Carts with the GB Flash Cards.

Check a few posts above. A statement from the company themselves refers to the game as a "three-dimensional and intense 'Grand Theft Auto' experience". Kind of sums up everyones the whole debate really. Now it's just a question of how the game will play.

No, it's just that some games are only good in way form. For example, Contra is a great 2d game but the 3d games have sucked. Castelvania is also a great 2d game that never got good in 3d. Mario is great as a 2d platformer and as a 3d platformer, while so is Metroid. GTA is only good as a 3d game. The 2d games didn't have anything special, fun, or enjoyable about them. They lose that feel of exploring a realistic city while listening to music and running people over. The 2d games were only made because the technology was not available to make them any better.

As for being old school, I grew up playing games in the 80s with the original Contro, Mario, Zelda, etc. They were ALL 2d. Some games are still fun in 2d, and some were never fun to begin with.

I agree that the DS can handle a 3D GTA but it would have to have an incredibly small city for it to work. So if it came down to that I'd rather have a 2D GTA and a large world.

WHAT THE FEZZY!!! DUDE YOU ARE OFF YOUR ROCKER~~ LOL....Nothing person but Lamont of Innocense was a great 3D Castlevania game. I didn't even know there was a 3D Contra...I have to check that out.

I agree with you 2d games are retro, the ability to go 3D wasn't quite mastered til generation 5....companies should use the latest technology.

PS please get Castlevania: Lamont of Innosense.

A Ds could not handle running a GB of game. It's an application, they run the entire thing at once. That's why the games are mostly 64 mb.

what everyone seems to be forgetting is that this is the ds!... And the DS is based around touch screen controls. If 2d works...fine. If 3d works...fine. As long as it works together with the touch controls. That's why we all bought a ds. Sure, we can all yearn for 3d graphics but theres quite a few 3d games that don't use touch screeen controls and because it is 3d, the environment feels pretty barren on the ds. So overall, it ends being a pretty boring game.

Yes, Rockstar never dissapoints.

BUT!

We are talking about Rockstar Leeds - the branch which makes GTA games for handheld.

They have made 2D GTA for Gameboys. On MY opinion, GTA for the PSP Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories were not impressive at all, nothing special, rather boring.

Well, I'm just saying, that's all. I don't know much about how GTA Chinatown Wars would be like...

Once again, I don't think it can. Then again, we don't know anything about this game yet. Hold off until we find out more.

I'm 80% positive that they will use a top-down view like the older GTAs. So don't expect it to be something like the PSP GTAs.gonzales1

WTF?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you know exactly what you're talking about since you must work with Rockstar and know the inside scoop on this game since it only got announced with no further info
