Really sorry if this counts as a DSi thread, it's just this question didn't exactly seem to fit under that sticky.

I have read up about all three, the DSi sounds clearly the best, but it will have a high price tag. I can get the DS for $70 AU pre-owned, which isn't even that much more than a DS game, a DS lite for $200 or a DSi for $300. I pretty much want the DS because of Pokemon entirely, and to lesser degree GTA: Chinatown Wars. So is the DSi worth the extra money? Or should I just get a lite? or is the difference so neglible that a normal pre owned DS would be best?

The games you mention won't even be of any benefit for the DSi. Unless you're looking for features found on the DSi, then save your money and just buy the Lite.

I'd go with the DS Lite. I traded in my fat DS for the DS Lite awhile back and couldn't be happier. It just looks slicker and I think the screen is better. It also plays GBA games, so if you ever want to play Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald you are good to go.

Unless you want the features in the DSi, then you're better off getting a Lite.

If Nintendo had any big plans for DSi features (most importantly the SD card slot), I hope they would tell us. (i.e. Virtual Gameboy? More downloadable games announced?)

For now, DS Lite.

From your needs, you should stick to the DS Lite because if you wanna play pokemon you may wanna bring old pokemon in from GBA games but the DSi doesn't support that
