Well guys, I am getting back surgery this Wednesday. For the recovery I am not able to sit down for 6 weeks; I can only stand or lay down. For the first couple of weeks I will probably be doing nothing but lying on my back to let it all heal.

This means that I will be doing a ton of gaming. I broke down today and purchased a Nintendo DS to play while in bed and such. On top of this I also bought a new gaming laptop and a couple PS3 games to play a while ago, so I should be set. Here is what I bought today, tell me what you think and give a DS noobie some tips. Also, whish me luck on my surgery!

You made some pretty good choices. NSMB is a bit short, but it's quite fun.

I plan on getting these games in the future:

Nintendogs: Dalmations & Friends (changed from Lab and Friends)
Final Fantasy III
Super Mario DS
The World Ends With You
Contra 4
Animal Crossing

I just have to know though, what is the difference between Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, and Final Fantasy III and which one is better?

No idea, sorry mate, i have never played FF befor!!

You should get that hotel murder mystery game..i can't remember what it's called sorry but its like 'something something, room 401'

I always thought it looked pretty cool!!

Also, unless you like terrier dogs and all those small, scottie dog things old women have, Lab and friends is the worst Nintendogs in my oppinion....I would go for Dachund (?) and freinds or Dalmation ad friends.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like terrier's, its just i thought Lab and friends would be the best Nintendogs game, but when i found out about the avalible dogs, i thought it was a bit rubbish..

Terriers: Lab
Small dogs (not terriers): Dachund
Mixed dogs: Dalmation
Weird Dogs: Chuwawa

Hey man, thanks for that info on the nintendogs, I am going to have to get the Dalmation one now, hehe.

I really like cats, is there such thing as a Nintencats?

Edit: This pen thing that holds the stylus is really, really awesome!

The only thing that comes close would be this piece of shovelware.

You're probably better off without it.

and yea those games wil keep you busy until you are recovered (avoid playing much zelda in a row, otherwise it'll be done soon)

o the world ends with you is a great game kind of short but really fun ... i dont know if it will be easy to play on your back tho

ff chocobo tales is just a game with alot of minigames some are really easy but other are hard

if you like pokemon you should try 1 of the three mystery dungueon games they all have a good story and last awhile

summon night twin age looks good but i still havent played it and guitar hero on tour comes out in a few weeks

ninja gaiden was ok but i never beat it and people say its to short

spectrobes was good and also has good graphics mario hoops 3 on 3 is fun but can be hard like any other mario sport game

also if you dont mind me asking how old are you and hope your back surgery goes well

Like mystery games? Try Hotel Dusk: Room 215!!! Its awesome, although I don't know anyone who hasn't had to looked through a walkthrough atleast once... Also its sorta a point-n-click but its still pretty cool on DS

I would also suggest Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow & Portrait of Ruin. Nice story and long gameplay, with replayable unlockables as well. For the most part there isn't alot of stylus movement, just a few gestures for boss fights & a couple of puzzles. I say that due to the stylus play may be aggrivating to your back since you'll be lying down, it might be easier. I broke 3 vertabrae about 17yrs ago so I feel you pain ( I was 17 ). Dont worry though as young as your body is you'll heall quick, God speed!

Hey, thanks a lot. I might check out the Castlevania games, I heard a lot of great things about them.

How does the whole friends thing work on the DS? Like how would I meet up and race some of you in mariokart or battle you or trade with you on pokemon?

just give it some time.. it might just be that it doesnt adjust until your actually in the gaem and learn the basics... but again i played that game when it first came out, and i havent owned a ds for several months, so im not very positve. best bet is to play a little more into it.

good luck with your surgery and recovery!

i'd say:

  • Advance Wars: Dual Strike & Days of Ruin
  • Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow & Portrait of Ruin

there are so many good games and so little time it seems

also, for your hands not to get cramped/fall asleep, put your hands on your stomach when you are laying down and playing...it helps.

enjoy your game time

Good luck on your recovery, first off.

If you're into strategy RPGs, you might want to check out Final Fantasy Tactics A2. It comes out on the 24th of June, and it should be able to give you quite a lot of gameplay if it's anything like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Very good choices. If you have wireless internet, you are even more set. For more value, get a Wi-Fi USB. It may be hard to find, but you may want it for the next few weeks.

Hello, if you need help setting up your wireless and I am not on contact me at Cuzih8u@aol.com.

All right first off you need your Nintendo DS, a wifi game, and one of these options:

Wireless Internet

Or A High Speed Connection

When you get all of that ready I will help you set it up.

For rpg, i really you should check out the world ends with you.Its one of the most uniqe game i've ever played. It is 40 bucks(i think, square always prices games they make for 40 -_-) but it is really fun. It starts out slow, then picks up as with most jrpgs(it has some good plot twists).

And what is your budget? If you go to the main message board on ds, there is a stickied topic on some great games.

Ok cool, I really do want to pick up The World Ends With You buy Best Buy, Gamestop, and Target didn't have it, I'll just order it online or something.

I'd still love to trade some pokemon with some of you guys (even though I'm still pretty low). Someone give me a quick rundown on how all that stuff works if you dont mind.

I haven't played my Pearl Version in ages, but i'll trade you any 4th gen starters or any other Pokemon I have if you want. Go to the basement of any Pokemon center to use wi-fi battle and trade. You can register friend codes in the Pal Pad.

Thanks ECG_24. He traded me some starters last night. Anyone else who would like to trade or something just let me know. Right now I don't have too many great pokemon as I am still pretty early in the game but I do have a shiny Geodude! Lol.

I just got some more unexpected money so I might order a couple of games off of ebay or something. I'm thinking about Final Fantasy III, The World Ends With You, and Animal Crossing or Super Mario DS.

What exactly do you do in Nintendogs? Is it sorta just like having your own pet?

I couldn't think of a better combination of games to start with than the ones you got. I would also recommend:

Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin or Dual Strike, Days Of Ruin, in my opinion, is slightly better.

The World Ends With You

Bleach: Blade of Fate

Good luck with your physical condition and gaming future. :)

Dude, you made the best choices, those are the best DS games you can get out there, especially pokemon
