I hope this doesn't go against TOS in any way, but I want to give everyone a heads up.

Gamestop is about to stop carrying used DS games complete. What I mean by this is from now on used DS games will be put in a glass case similar to GBA games and the instructions, cover art and case will go directly to the trash. I think everyone can see how this could do harm to collectors. This will make some games nearly impossible to find off of the internet complete. So I was hoping that the masses of gamespot could tell gamestop what we think about the new policy.

I know its hard enough to find games complete as it is, as there are some DS players that are young, however, there are also collectors out there who trade in games that look as good as a diamond and are rare. Perhaps it isn't worth it to some of you to fight the new policy, but I frankly love the instructions and cases.

Please email, and discuss from here on out. I just want to hear your thoughts.

Its supposed to be nation wide, and we of course merged with EB games years ago. Unfortunately, if you are phoning to complain, we can't do anything at the store level, its an upper level thing.

Yeah, I'll look for a number and email tomorrow if I get the chance, I don't work, but I don't want this to happen as I don't buy games that aren't complete.

In the mean time, I found out a potential way to let your voice be heard.

On our receipts we have a survey at tellgamestop.com and you can request not to take the survey but still give a compliment/complaint. Obviously none of the GA's or Managers are at fault so click other and complain from there, and you can also get the district managers contact info from there. This should be plenty thorough. Especially if you contact the DA, he will be able to pass his complaints to the higher ups.

Your talking about used DS games? I couldn't believe anyone would take a new shipment of DS games, unwrap the packaging, take out the game and throw everything else out in order to sell it. Doing that to new games just sounds ludacris.

Yeah, sorry bro, I meant to say used, but I was in a quick fury because I don't want it to happen. I just want everyone on this. To me, this is just as ludacris.

Yeah, it's still stupid but I'm not a collector so I don't mind as much but it is cooler to have the box and everything. I just thought of something. You should take all the boxes and booklets and stuff your store is throwing out and keep it/sell them. Seeing as they are trashing them doesn't seem like they'd care. :D

They aren't trashing them yet, as I said they are keeping them locked away just in case they have to go back and revert to the old way, but its unlikely unless there is a backlash in sales or customer relations. This is likely an impossible fight, there are too many people that don't care about the cases and instructions, and its a double edged sword. A lot of people don't keep the cases and we won't have the cases, so it will be much harder getting complete games, but this will make the ones I have much rarer in the future, no doubt. Anyways, I figured this affects the game community.

Anyways, I'm trying to get the word out, if it spreads fast enough maybe we can stop it.

Differs from store to store, there are some rotten ones, this coming from a guy who works for the company, but there are also lots of good ones. Its all about the personnel.

Are you serious? Throwing away all those perfectly good cases and manuals...What is this madness?

My business has officially moved to Amazon. Cart-only GBA games are fine and good, but when a game comes with a nice case I'm not about to chuck it out. This sucks. I ought to go and ask them if they sell the items they throw out.

I just asked my friend (now a manager of his own GameStop store) and he said he's never heard of anything. He even called it a crazy idea. Maybe it isn't happening for every store? On a side note...Trash? I hope you mean they are recycling... or at least donating the cases to the Goodwill/Salvation Army store.

Its supposed to be nationwide, but it may not be all at one time. I'm 99% positive that this is not a district thing. As far as trashing the cases, they go to the trash. We don't recycle at the store level much at all, just reuse boxes, anything other than that I don't know about. We're supposed to be a green company :3.

As far as moving your business to Amazon, its not too late to change their mind, you can still email them and try to stop it by using the process I posted.

Kuribo_Girl

DS used is one of the biggest sections at every store, and its hard to shelf them without using 1/4 of the store or more on DS. I can understand the benefit, but its totally shafting people like me who love to have these things.

As far as it being internationally, like I said, its supposed to be nationwide, anything past that I don't know about. I assume that Europe has its own chain of command, so you likely won't be affected.

Maybe. Depends on who is working. I used to take cases and instructions and stuff all the time if they'd let me. All that stuff is just extra, we don't take off the price or anything because it lacks a case. However, someone in this thread says it hasn't even been mentioned in their district yet, so it may be a slower conversion than I thought. Most of the time when this sort of thing happens, every store is pretty much the same, but this time may be different for whatever reason. So perhaps they haven't started in your district yet.

Wow, glad I don't live in the US, I wouldn't buy a game without the case and manual (which is why I usually buy new), that is a stupid idea, especially with EA's project 10 Dollar looking likely to cut sales of used games anyway, now if you buy used you don't even get the case and manual, and I bet you the one thing that won't be binned is the prices, no they'll stay the same, needless to say I feel bad for you guys and hope nothing comes of it.

I'm only thinking the shin megami tensei games on the DS will be collectibles but we'll see. All the hard to find games are usually collectibles. I Also think this won't reduce encounter rates that much it is still easy to find ds games with boxes. People don't always buy from gamestop you know. There is always websites for games like these such as atlus. It may cost more but that is the price of collecting.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about something else.. Oz as in Australia? Because I've never heard of Oz as a slang term or something, or perhaps I'm just stupid due to lack of sleep. I was thinking Austria or something. Anyways, yes they are locking them away to start, but eventually they will make their way to the trash, eventually likely being sooner rather than later.

As far as games being rare or not. Try finding copies of Super Princess Peach, or Meteos complete. I haven't seen one in quite some time, and those certainly aren't the hardest to find I'm sure. Its just the fact that the DS's audience is mostly children and they don't keep the case and instructions.

Sorry if I'm getting mixed up, I haven't been sleeping well lately and sleep deprivation doesn't enhance my skills as a writer.

Gamestop as a company honestly isn't that bad. It gets a bad rep because there are some crappy stores out there, and our prices aren't always fair unfortunately (seriously, $54.99 for a used game is a bit much with or without the edge card). However, they are out for profit, and I understand there is almost no competition in used game sales which gets gamestop most of the profit out of everything they sell.

As far as not buying games without cases and instructions. I don't either, so its a good thing its just DS, which is pretty gone for me anyways since the 3DS is coming. Still, I recently purchased Wario Ware DIY, Yoshi's Island and several other games, and I shudder at the fact that these games would have been sold without a case and instructions if I purchased them today.

Sorry for double post, but I want to answer all questions and firefox makes me mod code and stuff and I haven't bothered yet.

Eh don't worry. Yeah, Oz is Australia. Well it's a real shame about that. I can't understand why gamestop would do such a thing, it doesn't seem very logical to me! I'm sure a lot of people will find this irritating.

This is why people need to boycott Gamestop.

Want used games? Go to eBay or Disc Replay.

The above links are from an internet series made by a Gamestop whistle blower exposing the BS behind the business. There were 9 parts all together but Gamestop had them pulled from youtube and many other sites. -_-

These are the only 2 videos I could find. Watch them, they are entertaining and informative.
