So i am seriously considering either buying a usd ds lite, or a 3ds system. however, i dont really want to pay 250$ for the 3ds, especially when there are not many great games out yet.

do you recommend i buy a ds lite now, or wait for a price drop in the 3ds?

I won't suggest one over the other, but DS Lite is definately my favorite iteration of the DS hardware. If you're gonna get an old DS, definately get the DS Lite.

3DS price won't be dropping for a while, and the DS Lite will be discontinued soon and support for it will disappear. Since the 3DS is backwards compatible, there's really no point buying a DS Lite at this point. Just get the 3DS. It's a great system, and you'll be happy with it.

thanks for the advice! i what do you mean by the support for the ds lite will drop?

i was thinking of getting a used one for cheap, and using that to hold me for a yr or more until 3ds is cheaper w/ better games, and then just upgrading.

anyone else have opinions?

just get a 3ds, if for no other reason you will be able to play any DS game on it, and then once it comes out with better games, you wont have to spend another 250 for the 3ds to be able to play them

I'd get a DSLite if you just want it for a year or two. You can get some great bargains now that people are selling theirs to get the 3D. Besides, not ALL the game makers are switching over to the 3D format. A lot of them are taking a wait and see attitude and still making really good games. Yes the 3D is selling well - new technology always sells well, at first. Plus you will have a trade-in in a few years if you want to to get the 3D later.

Just my 2 cents.

yes, I like this man's (or woman's) idea. plus, i heard there are still bugs (which is to be expected) being worked out in the 3ds. thanks again!

Thing of it this way. Its like a Gamecube or Wii type thing. The gamecube will stop making games and the wii will move on and get more things to it

id get the 3ds, more games coming out soon and were getting the big update june 7th or whatever, its like when a new console comes out and instead your buying an older one? idk imo the 3ds is the better investment for the long run since the ds will die out by the end of the year as everyone starts getting a 3ds and especially around christmas time, plus 3ds has alot more features

If you can afford it go for the 3DS, as you most new good games are shifting over to the 3DS. Although if you go for an old DS you should get a DSi. It has a bigger screen, better speakers, some cool apps like flipnote studio, and the ability to download DSiware games. It also has twice the processor and ram, although few retail games take advantage of it. It has non squishy buttons (as opposed to the lite), has 2 cameras, plays music, and has better wireless encryption. Although if you play a lot of GBA games you'll have to go for the DS Lite as the DSi isn't backwards compatible with the GBA.

don't get the ds lite. if want last gen get the dsi. but i would suggest you get the 3ds because of the online eshop. friend code registration is much easier. and there are some good games coming out this summer so there will be plenty to play.

I would get both. First get the DS lite. New since they have just stopped making them, Stock will sell out. (Plus it is the best version of DS) the DS games are cheap now. Lots of places have used games (at least in my area)

Then get 3DS later (when their are more worthwhile games)

Plus the 3DS is BC with Regular DS so you can use your DS games on 3DS.

I still urge you to get a DS Lite- the difference in screen size is barely noticable, and the GBA port is just indispensible- I haven't been able to play any of my DS Guitar Hero games since I (ill-advisedly) sold my DS Lite. (By the way, if you're a fan, Guitar Hero On Tour had- in my opinion- the best tracklist of any GH game to date.)

DSi's screen size is 17% bigger so you should be able to notice it, and the speakers are much louder. Also DSiware is really nice to have. Of course if GBA is important than the Lite is the way to go.

I mean that developers will stop producing games for it; they basically already have except for shovelware.

I suppose you're right about the screen size, but the volume shouldn't be an issue since (unlike GBA SP) it has a standard headphone jack. As far as DSiware is concerned, he said he'd be getting a 3DS later if he decided to go with an earlier DS model, so that's moot. (Maybe I'm just a militant e-Lite-ist?(hah hah))

yes. i was leaning toward the lite when i made the thread, but wanted to see if anyone who was more knowledgeable than i had any news or a convincing argument that would convince me otherwise. think of this thread as my "double check" to make sure this is what i want to do.

Drop the DS Lite, and get the 3DS. it's graphics are amazing and there are plenty of newer 3DS games coming out within the next 3 months. I was unsure about getting the 3DS when It first came out, but once I bought it, I knew it was a good choice. But if you enjoy playing your Gameboy Advance games in the DS Lite, I suggest you keep it. The 3DS doesn't have a port to put the GBA games in. And They only gave me $25.OO for my DS Lite. Which was in Excellent by the way!! I would have kept it if I looked at the receipt first.

the 3ds but it 250$:(and when you play the 3ds, you have to be right in front, if not then it will not be 3D, and the 3D is a little bit outward and way inword:).

Yes, you are right in the same way I'm considering a gamecube right now!

Seriously, just spend a bit of extra money and get the system that is not going to be obsolete in a year. I think you just made this tread to find people to help you justify buying the cheaper system that will not have new games produced for it in 6 months!

Why wouldn't you just buy the current system? you probably don't have a logical reason outside of price, and if that's the case, you were never really considering current technology anyway.

DS Lite is the better choice of the two right now. I like the look and feel of the system more. DS games are still readily available and far more of them than 3DS games. Also, you can play GBA games on it, ones of your choosing, and not just ones they happen to put in the eShop. Also, much longer battery life. And one of the most important factors of all: price.

I would get a 3DS in your situation. I have a 3DS, and it's AWESOME. There's not many games out yet, but not getting it for that reason makes no sense. You can get the 3DS and get used to it, and wait for games to come out, instead of getting games and the 3DS at the same times. Also, the DS lite is like $130 dollars right now ( I think). Save up for a 3DS. That's what I did from sptember to march. And don't forget that the estore on the 3DS comes out on the 6th, and nintendo is giving away exictebikes and pokedex 3D for free until july 7th.

what console did you have before thinking about getting a DS/3DS? i think it's great you chose to buy Nintendo if you owned an Xbox or Playstation before.

there seem to be an extraordinary amount of people validating your choice for the DSlite on the basis that it can play any GBA game you want .Either we have most of the people still actually doing this in the thread or they are trying really hard to justify their situation. The big problem is you need to actually own the cartridge which in this day and age can be quite difficult to find or even cost you quite a bit at a specialty store. there are literally no good reasons to not get the new console except for what other posters have mentioned, the price.

just get a 3DS.. DS games have already been showing their age for sometime (aside from those that use sprites, those always look good) and 3DS is going to be around for at least 4-5 years.. so why not jump in and enjoy the next generation of portable gaming..

I bought a 3DS for Ocarina Of Time.. but I'm glad I bought it because it really is a great system. I tried the AR Card thing and its fun. The 3D effects are awesome. I love it.

If it's good games you're looking for then I suggest investing in a 3DS as it can play both 3DS games (Duh) and DS games and new games will soon be released for it.

oh, so no game that, for lack of a better term, matters.
