Make sure that the button is seated properly in the DS body. I've had a shoulder button "slip" out of its housing a little bit, just had to gently push it forward a bit, and it worked fine.
Also, if you just bought it a week and a half ago, Nintendo shouldn't have any problem with replacing it. Nintendo's customer service is top notch. I bought at DS Lite at launch, and it had 5 or so dead pixels on the top screen. I called them, and within a few days I received a new DS along with the box to send the old one back in.
So don't be afraid of talking with Nintendo's customer service. They're really nice and they don't treat you like you're trying to scam them like some other customer service departments. they'll take care of you

HAHA! Your f***ing hilarious!!!
Sorry, bad experience with GBA SP. Snapped the screen 'cause I got pissed at DK Country. I had to pay $60 for the SP, the charger was $20, but I didn't need it. Nice guys, but you pay for your mistakes.
so, you expected nintendo to replace your GBA for free because YOU snapped it?
oh that sounds like a great reason to hate the customer service.
this happened to everyone, there are like 20 threads of this, you have you gently blow the R/L button
then it will work again;)
