I have been eyeing the DS Lite for some time now. I know that it is BRighter and Lighter and supposedly easier to play. However, upon observing and feeling it at Gamestop, I realized the following.

The DS lite's Directional pad is a little bit small and I was wondering if it is easy to play,

The DS original had a large D pad which i really liked.

The DS Lite's microphone is placed directly between the two screens >>> I don't want to spit on my screen.

I can currently buy a DS lite for 70$ if i trade in my DS original. Is the lightness and brightness worth upgrading it?

It's way worth it. You won't notice the D pad difference at all, and if you buy screen protection, then the few games that might make you spit a bit won't get in tot he components. The speaker is more sensitive so you don't have to get as close to it as the ds phat. Stop asking questions and just get the Lite, Nintendo didn't spend millions in making a new design for it to not be worth it.

Unless you are dead broke, there are no good arguments for not upgrading to a DS Lite.

I have original ds and its good enough to me. Brightness is good and everything else. But if I could chance my ds to ds lite for free, I would do it. But still original ds is as good as ds lite. :)

Its definitely worth it. I ended up getting two. After I bought one for myself I felt bad for my little brother because he had an old one so I bought him a new one too.

The improvements in the DS Lite are purely cosmetic. You also have to keep in mind that the DS Lite has the most manufacturing defects out of all gaming consoles.

The DS Lite is easily the superior model. Most notably for the variable screen brightness settings.

Anyone who says the DS is flawed in any way is just upset they don't have one. There's no other reason to donounce progress, especially when it's so easy to literally SEE the difference.

It's a better designed handheld, the screen as you mentioned is far and away better then the first DS. The screen's clarity is outstanding and the depth of colors it allows will surprise you. Games with lots of movement and colors are much easier to play on the DS because it does a much better job of differenciating all the action on the screen.

The speakers don't go as high but they also don't distort as max level.

EDIT: Mind you I'm talking about the DSLite

DS Lite D-pad is just fine and while it looks smaller, it is no more difficult to use.

DS Lite Microphone is rarely used anyway, and when it is, perhaps you should learn to talk without spitting.

Yes the lightness, design, smaller size are worth the upgrade.
