Well, I bought mine for the same reason, RPGs. I also import RPGs that havent been localized yet so the DS was a great buy for me.
Im not too sure about FF 5 and 6 remakes, SE might not make them considering the developement time and how much time the DS as left.
For RPG's, I prefer my PSP. If you're a SRPG fan, that's the system you want to have. Disgaea, Jeane D'Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Wild Arms XF are all amzing SRPG's,
Then for JRPG's, you have Riviera, Tales of the World, Valkirie Profile: Lenneth, The Legend of Heroes saga, Star Ocean I and II, Tales of Eternia, Breath of Fire III, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy I and II, and many more.
I'm hard pressed to name as many great RPG's on the DS... Final Fantasy IV, Etrian Odyssey series, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, and maybe The World Ends With You... but that's pretty much all I would call great RPG's. Also, notice half those games I just listed have yet to come out yet.
Now, don't get me wrong, the DS is still an amazing system and has many great games... but when you stack the RPG's on the two systems against each other... the PSP is where it's at.

You just named off a bunch of lame-to-mediocore PSP games to fill your list of RPG's on the PSP.. then failed to do the same for the DS. And you even left out some great ones! Your whole post seemed completely biased.
FF III, FF IV, FF:CC, Etrian Oddyssy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, The World Ends with You, Rune Factory, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, The Pokemon series (the last two were rated in the 9's.. can't exactly ignore them), Contact, Luminous Arc, Rondo Of Swords.. and those are just off the top of my head.
I'm thinking about buying a DS and i'm really only interested in the rpgs. Is the purchase justified for ff3,ff4,chrono trigger, and the dragon quest games? And what do you guys think are the chances offinal fantasy 5 and 6 being remade for the ds? Ff6 alone would justify the buy for me lol.luggymeister
Yes there are more RPG's then just that some are harder to find though. Also there are some action RPG's to such as castlevania, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (although that's a little more hack n slash it's still fun)
If your interested in RPG's here's a couple others
Mario And Luigi Partners in time (It's great but hard to find)
Pokemon
Dragon Quest Monster Joker (if you like to grind levels)
Sonic RPG is coming
Kingdom Hearts is also coming
