Nintendo has discussed this a bit. They say while they like 3G (and it would help nintendo online) that it would add alot to the manufacturing costs of a handheld. as they aren't going to make people ppay a contract to use DS online

My question

Would you rather the DS2 be $200 at launch with Tegra 2 or some good advance mobile tech, say it has Tegra 2 which has multiple cores up to 1Ghz, say 128MB RAM (as much as original iPod Touch 3 years ago) and GPU capable at the least of GameCube graphics or more, plenty of internal storage (4GBs to 8GBs) and WiFi, multi-touch screen and cost all at $199 and no more (and lets say the screens are both 480x320)

OR

would you rather have a somewhat underpowered DS2 with 3G, always online always connected, possibly with a better shop/apps store, better emphasis on online multiplayer, with decent PSP/PS2 level hardware inside, like a ARM CPU @ 300Mhz, maybe 32MB RAM, a GPU that can do PS2 level visuals, and maybe two 320x240 res screens and 3G for $200

basically would you want power and WiFi? or 3G and modest power?

Nintendo could take very old tech and make a 3G capable DS very attractive at a $150-$200 price

But we all assume with the DSi's and XL's prices that the next DS will be at least $200 right?

The second choice but with the power of the 1st choice. I honestly wouldn't mind paying $300 for that....

^ what rick said. I don't mind paying more for quality. Though I would rather like it at something such as 250$ at the most. But if it is really good 300$ isn't all that bad. I probably will end up trading in my psp for it.

Oh and no 3g http://nobosh.com/sr/nintendo-ds2-will-have-motion-controls-but-it-will-not-have-3g/306567/ It was taken way out of context. They were talking about how they think it should have 3g capabilities not that it did. I now would only buy this for 200$ or less.

Thats what Darth is referring to with the 3G support. Have a game the caliber of Smash Bros on the DS2 and use the 3G so that you can play"online" anywhere you get the signal. That way you wouldn't need to be near a router or wi-fi hotspot. He isn't suggesting that the next DS turn into a phone.....

This could help make a portable gaming system truly portable. As it stand now, you (for the most part) have to be at home anyways to do any online gaming with the DS.

The real issue with any of this 3G talk is Nintendo hasn't exactly been on the ball when it comes to online gaming/digital service and that would be the huge draw to even include 3G. (ex. DSi-ware that doesn't transfer..no account based system, Friend Codes)

The only reason why I would want 3G is because my router is WPA-Protected and I can't play DS games on it.

However, DSi features work, so the DS2 will too.

I don't think I would ever want to play online outside of my house. If I need to look something up online, I just use my BlackBerry.

So, no. Not worth the extra money, nor Nintendo's effort.

I really, really can not see them doing this though.

My router is WPA2-protected I can't play DS games on it, I can play Wii games though. I would like to have 3G coverage so I can play online anywere I had coverage and go to the DS shop channel.

My guess is that the system will sell for $250 with a Kindle like internet connection--where the price is a tad higher, but there are no monthly fees.

The 3g with no monthly fees does sound nice but I would rather have the more powerful ds2

No need for 3G IMO. I, like most other people, have a smartphone with portable internet, phone-calling, etc. so I'm fine with having 2 devices:

One with all of my online needs

The other with all of my gaming needs.

3g. 4g. Whatever the word is at the moment. I'm not referring to phone calls and portable internet--I mean the possibility of having your ds/gameboy on a long car/train/bus ride(or at a random park/beach), and having the ability to go online and play mario kart with someone.

While that sounds good to play online during a trip its not worth paying more money for. imo at least.
