I have a PS3 collecting more and more dust everyday because all I play mostly is my DSi. The DSi system is just so simple to use and has the most FUN games around. I love RPG's and the DS has alot of great ones. I think you will be happy with just using a DS system. Just invest in some awesome games and they will keep you busy and happy for a long time.
My DS is kind of my main console too, it gets way more play time then any other console in the house... so no I don't think you're mad ;).
I was in the same situation years ago, and at the time I thought it was the best idea(cheapest games). It probably is the best idea because now that I am mostly playing 360 sometimes I buy a new title and they are far more expensive than new titles on the DS. This is a good idea if you have a good list of games that you haven't played yet. If you want recomendations I'm sure there are people here who can bring up games you might have not thought of otherwise.
If you're mad then so am I.
I can't get into many games for home consoles because I feel so pressured to beat them, to find large blocks of time to play them in, or to get to a save point before I have to give up the TV.
The DS just feels fun. You have it with you all the time to play when you have a few minutes, you can put it in power save mode for hours at a time if if you can't find a save point, You don't have to worry about who wants to watch TV. And handhelds don't seem to be as attached to 3D games as home consoles (even two generations ago).
There's a 360 and a Wii in the household, but my main system is the DS. One reason, because I'm a working mother who has a million things to do in a day. As it stands there's a load of laundry piling up that's being neglected because of CSI Deadly Intent.
The other reason is very, very sad. I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600, but somehow as the graphics have gotten better (understatement) I've developed a bad case of simulator sickness (or video game sickness, I'm geek enough to have done the research). So I can deal with puzzle/adventure games and anything on a smaller screen helps.
I'm not above taking something to play on the Xbox or Wii but then I have to take time out of my schedule to do all of this and with the DS I can take it with me, or pick it up on the fly whenever I want a gaming fix.
Anyway, you aren't mad. That's why there are so many choices to fit each gamers' needs.
I went with a DS Lite as my only system for about a year (was having issues with the CD format so I went with the only thing around that still produces cartridges). I picked up my second Wii more because I missed having one than for any deficiencies in the DS, so no, I do not think you are mad at all. Have fun with your DS.
You're not crazy at all.
I have a Wii, PS3, and a gaming computer and it's not even close. I prefer my DSi over all of them.
