DSI XL worth the purchase.

My mother just purchased my son a DSI XL and I was riding home thinking is it even worth it now since the 3DS is out? I know the DS has a very extensive library as I have one myself, but just figured with the 3DS out there wasn't much sense in buying a DS anymore...

It's worth it to me because I have a lot more DS games than 3DS, and I'm sure those big, crisp screens would make playing some DS games easier. I've heardly mostly positive views on the XL already.

I'd say return it if possible. Yeah it's nice having a large screen, but the 3DS is a far better investment since you can still play the old games as well as all the new 3DS stuff.

At the XL's current price point, it's absolutely not worth it. I'd also argue that the screens are too big - you can literally count the pixels.

not really with it being the same price as the 3ds and the 3ds plays ds games if you can return it then that maybe your best bet to return it and get the 3ds but ether way there are a ton of great ds games

I hate the DSi XL with a passion. It's hideous! The games look stretched, so no, it's not a good thing having big screens.

The 3DS can play DS games, so yeah, the 3DS iis a better investment. :)

I agree, its the same price if not more expensive than the 3ds, the 3ds can play all the games you want. There's no need to own a Ds any more if you can get the 3ds.

Yeah, get a 3DS... though DS games do look rather hideous on 3DS... washed out and slightly yellowish... but a kid won't notice anyways.

At the same price as the 3DS no way at all Great console that is invalidated by the 3DS's low price. The 3DS screen is still bigger than all non-XL models. It plays DS games too. Return it for a 3DS if possible, but I can understand if you can't do it because its a gift

Well we are going to keep the DSi XL just for the reason he is only 5 and will only play Star Wars pretty much. I was probably just wanting to know the fact for my own personal gain lol.......................

it is not worth it to me. Sooner or later they will stop making ds games. Then you will have to go on to the 3ds

They're both basically the same price. 3DS is the obvious choice but since he is 5, he shouldn't deal with the 3DS yet since Nintendo warned about the 3D effect on young children.
