O my old wii has been on the frits for a while so i decied its time to bite the bullet and just get a new. Well, I was excited cuz it was all cool and black, I got supermario for free, and im thinking sweet deal! Well, I got it home, unpacked hooked it up, and then went to my old wii, put everything on an SD card to switch it over. Well, it first told me that I had to play each and every game that I have at least one time before t would except my saved data, ok no biggie i thought, one inconvinence is ok for a sweet looking wii... the i tried to put a GC game in... spits it out..... ok?.... then i try to open the top panel and it seems glued shut! Ok, so can I not play my GC games on this or what? and then I tried to downlaod my games from my SD card, I have some virual console games, and some wii ware... it wont download! Ok so i can just play them off my SD card..... WONT LET THEM PLAY!!!! I am almost ready to take the thing back, but I am hoping that i am just doing something wrong. So to wrap it up, I just want to know how I can play my vitural consel games and also if this new wii plays GC games. Please tell me Im jsut doing something wrong..... :/

Well I can pretty much garuntee the wii you have is not BC with gamecube games or controller as all the new, discounted priced wii's are that way now.

As for your VC games I can't say but if you can return this current one I'd try first getting one BC compatible with gamecube even just soley for the controller port as playing any N64 VC title with anything else sucks.

VC downloads and such are hardware locked, you can't transfer them to other consoles for piracy reasons. The only way to transfer them over is to send both Wiis to Nintendo and have them transfer the data over. And your wii isn't backwards compatible, the new Wiis haven't been for like a year now, shoulda done your research.

Cost cutting, Wii's aren't selling as hot as they were so they're maxizing profit per console sold while it's still on the market :P Personally I've never once used any Gamecube stuff for my Wii so it doesn't really bother me :P Not to mention there are tons of BC Wii's out there used and in pawn shops :P

They could've just lowered the price like they did,but why would you remove a big feature of it?It bothers a lot of people, including me,and I'm not buying a used Wii.

Lowering the price without lowering the cost to produce each console doesn't save them money though :P Look at the people buying a Wii these days, the great majority of people buying this late into the gen aren't likely the types who would even care about GC support. It really isn't that big of a feature nowadays, as most Nintendo fans either already own a gamecube or bought a Wii when it had backwards compatibility.

I used to have a Gamecube, but then it died.I had a Wii with backwards compatibility, but it no longer works. It's not like I'm the only one that's done this. And considering how many Wii's have been sold,I think a simple price reduction would've made a bunch of sales, and gotten them more money.Removing a big feature is just going to piss people off.

And yet not that many people are pissed off, its a small minority on forums, the rest of the majority will just buy a used Wii cheap or didn't even know it had gamecube compatibility at all. if you want to play gamecube games, buy a gamecube, backwards compatibility, especially this late in the gen isn't a priveledge.

Im just glad that the wii had it as long as it did. PS3 is the most frustrating because they don't have the backwards compatability and they are really taking advantage of that by selling you the games that you already bought for a previous system.

I see where you both are coming from and maybe taking the BC was better for profit but I think I would of rather paid a little more and not half to throw out my GC games.... and who wants to buy an old wii? I mean if you get them off ebay or something they're usually junk and getting a used one from gamestop is just waisting your gas.... your gonna be back to exchange it at least twice and then ask for your $ back.

I purchased an "older Wii" in supposed "acceptable" condition; and it's held up just fine. I will not purchase a "new Wii" based on Nintendo's profit philosophy. What would be "better for profit" would be quality games from the Wii.

Honestly, my ivory staircase was jolty in response to "exploring the Wii" until I've recently come to the conclusion that Gamecube offered alot more. The Wii offered the Gamecube experience without having to purchase the uber expensive component cable. (About 150 American dollars on Amazon)

In essence, $150 dollars or $100 for a brand new Wii still narrows down to about 20 titles the Wii has to offer. Perhaps I seem a little bitter by Nintendo's decision, but most of us are over the Wii-play experience. :(

Why didn't you just send your old Wii to Nintendo to have it fixed? Would have been a better idea I think.

Well, in no way am I saying owning more than 20 games on the Wii is next to impossible. I'm saying thawhat makes the "must buy" or best list would indeed be limited to 20 "or so". SMG, SMG2, DKCR, MP3, MTOM amongst other titles are pretty much agreeable to all to be the very best Wii has to offer. In comparison to the Gamecube, I'd say the new decision of non-backwards-compatible Wii's really limit it to Wii-play and lackluster platformers.

I'd at least like to see something different come out of the Wii being that it offers gameplay over the casual experience my Xbox360 offers.

Hes basically agreeing that they should of kept the BC of the wii because the GC had more to offer and that with the wii and there is really only around 20 or so games and not a lot of wiggle room for much else unlike the360... if I interpreted it right that is.....?
