hi everyone....new here so firstly hello to you all :)

I need your advice please

So i just picked up a DS but i don't have any games yet.....I need your recommendations / must haves etc....
the sort of games i really enjoy are strategy games rather than RPGs etc....Particularly 'empire builder' type things.

I took a look elsewhere and found a few things...Has anyone played Anno? Recommend it? It looks exactly like the sort of thing i'm after....

if you can make recommendations in that direction that would be great

Advanced Wars isnt necesarilly an empire game because you have a few bases and weapons(sometime) AOE you have to almost start from scratch

ok - thanks all. Picked up age of empires...It's pretty good, but the turn based parts are frustrating. And the audio is annoying as hell!

anno is looking good though

I tend to leave the RTS games on the computer, where you have a keyboard and mouse. If you really want to wait, save up for Starcraft II, you won't go wrong there.

real time strategies aren't really good on the ds because they always add turn based rpg elements which i didnt like in advance wars (sorry fans but i hated that game).  i support the idea that you should just save up and keep real time strategies on the computer however the settlers looks pretty good. as for some good games on the ds there are

pokemon d/p

metroid

mario kart

nsmb

clubhouse games

all the top games on this site

well, i shouldnt really complain about the game because i got it for free because somebody at gamecrazy didnt put it into the computer, but im going to anyway. i really love games like age of empires, empire earth, and STARCRAFT, but i hated this game. each person has some kind of special powers(most of which are useless) and that annoyed me a little but i still won at the end of the match. the last mission on the first island you have to face two people. their special power alloys them to go twice in one turn. i would spend an hour taking over the map and just as soon as i go in they use this power and it wipes my whole team out. i did this mission twice and after i figured i was screwed twice i just never played it again. as for the rest of the game i hated that i couldnt build my own buildings. you can only take the ones on the map over. i hated that i could only move a certain spaces per turn. i like being able to move as much as i want. oh and when building units instead of taking a few minutes or seconds with cheats you have to wait turns until they are built. oh and personally i thought the storyline was stupid for this game. this is all why i believe they should port starcraft 64 to the ds without adding turn based elements. this is why i hated the game maybe you would like it idk

When I read your topic I thought immediatly of Anno. That's a must buy, I've been tracking this game for a while and it seems to have everything the amazing Anno 1602 for PC has aswell. Unfortunatly few people have heared of it but from the looks of it it's going to be amazing. On the Anno board someone has played a rom of it and he liked it a lot aswell. I'll be buying it friday the moment it comes out.

I'm waiting for Europa Universalis II on the DS. It isn't coming out for quite a while, the release date is still set at TBA but its a port of the PC version of the game.

 :D

If only it was out. :(

It's a great game. Combat and Trade aspect has been dumped down to amke things work for DS but the building aspect still shines. It's one of those games that you put in your DS for a long time. And with Free play's random maps you can literally play forever.
