In the latest episode of the bonus round, the panel didn't have very many nice things to say about Epic Mickey. They said after they got some hands-on time with the game it was pretty bad. Is this a flop in the making?

I'm not sure about the game. I have kind of been on a teeter totter with this. Sometimes it looks great. Other times it looks like a bad game.
I just saw a video on EM, and I think I get what the game is about. The game is more about messing with the environment, finding different outcomes, finding different solutions to a problem, doing small things that affect you as the course of the game goes on and ultimately seeing how it unfolds. Of course the game also revolves around Nostalgia.
The game will only be 8-10. Most likely he did this so a player could experience the many things you can supposedly can do that turns out different. Spector also hinted that there is a lot more to the game than meets the eye.Someone found, I believe he called it a stamp, and when the person asked what it was, he said it was a major part of the game, and that he wouldn't say anything about it. The stamp was of the logo of the game (the painted Mickey Mouse ears), so it has to be of some importance.
Basically if this game is good, it is just because a demo isn't good enough to show its true colors.
I haven't been unimpressed with what I have seen so far so this game stays on my want list, if it is as big as we have been led to believe then judging it by a small demo is a huge injustice.
did anyone really expect the game to be good?DJ_LaeYes, many people who have heard of Warren Spector expect it to be good.
I wasn't hyped by this game at all. I mean I didn't really like Okami that much and it won't get anywhere near Mario or Zelda. It seems that most games like this look promising but end up being failures but kids will buy it because its Mickey Mouse.
I saw that yesterday. All I have to say is that no one on that panel this week, I like. I don't trust any of them. Shane actually picked SMG2 as his game of the year so far (surprising, considering he generally hates the Wii and isn't afraid to say it) -- the other blond hair guy is really weird and says a lot of stupid stuff -- and Tom Russo also works on Reviews On The Run, which is a horrible, horrible gaming TV show.

As for Epic Mickey, I too haven't seen anything that makes it stand out. We'll see before it's about to come out, but right now it looks like an average platformer with some sort of moral system (a la deus ex.) -- which sounds interesting, if done well. I don't think we've really seen enough of the game to really judge what it'll be like and I certainly don't trust that panel, at all. I mean a guy who says he played a bit of SMG2 and said 'yeah I get it, you jump around as this character' (Tom Russo) is not someone I'm going to listen to when it comes to a platformer.

What does that have to do with Epic Mickey? I'm stil interested in this game, the only complaint they had was its camera, and that can be easily fixed before release.
This game is one that reviews will be the deciding factor on (for me). It could be great, but it has not made me go WOW as Zelda, Donkey Kong, metroid, Goldeneye and more have.
[QUOTE="DJ_Lae"] did anyone really expect the game to be good?The_Pig_HostageYes, many people who have heard of Warren Spector expect it to be good. I know who Spector is, and I still don't expect much from the game. It reeks of Kingdom Hearts somehow - a middling to poor game concept 'saved' with a liberal application of Disney nostalgia. I'd be much more excited if he had a chance to develop another game of his own.

Well I thought it took the idea of the painting element out of that game but I still aren't hooked on the game. It's a maybe.I have hopes that this game will be good. When's the last time we had a good game that had Mickey in it?
Everything that's come out about the game recently has gotten progressively worse - I wouldn't be surprised at all if the end product turns out to be garbage. And it wouldn't be far off from what I expected, either - did anyone really expect the game to be good?DJ_Lae
Yea I'm sure there's lots of people who thought this was going to be a great game. Honestly I've always been pretty skeptical about it but, I haven't lost hope yet
Everything I've seen and heard make this game look like it will be a great idea with horrible execution.
Its strange, one negative preview pops up and all the haters come flocking over here to say "I always knew it would terrible!!!". Calm down, the game is months away from release, has had over a dozen positive hands on impressions, and as always Warren Spector. I'm not saying that everyone needs to be excited about this game, but the amount of hate in this thread is unwarranted. meetroid8Yeah I always find that hilarious, people these days seem to be incapable of individual thought, they simply wait for validation from the mob or from some random member of media to proclaim their thoughts. Whether they had the thoughts prior to this or not, it certainly looks like letting others do the thinking for you. [QUOTE="elbert_b_23"]meh i seen more good on bad including that adam guy from g4 that hates the wii and the games loves this game and many more so 1 web site said its bad what a joke there's 20 more that say its good no game can please everyone some people just want games to suck that they look for reason for it to be bad, hell the game is still in development wait intel its finished to sate the pointless hate Pretty much. there never has been a game and there will be a game that everyone will like, that will be safe from periodic bashing. Epic Mickey just makes for an Epic Target.

Don't let others do your thinking for you. A Warren Spector game is the last game you should be making judgments on from a 20 minute demo. Basically, I think the game is suffering abit from an identity crisis however--people are expecting a full blown platformer, I remember Okami copping similar flack several years ago. I am more keen on its approach to choice and how dynamic of a game epic mickey is and Spectors games have always nailed the more ambiguous and player conscience decisions better than anything Peter Molyneux has done. but okami ended with supremely high scores and reveered by its players as often better than Zelda.Me included.
That's the point Illmatic was making in that post. They were saying that people bash if after a small sample because they had previous misconceptions going in, that weren't met in such a small sample size. And if you work in the gaming media, of all people they should know how Spector is and that you cant judge his games from ten minutes of play time.
I don't understand all the critisism of upcomming Wii games. The other console threads don't just rip on upcomming games, but the Wii area seems to do nothing but tear appart yet to be released games. Why?
Metroid Other M, Goldeneye, Conduit 2, Epic Mickey, and even Skyward Sword get more grief on this board than games from any other console. These critisisms are based on nothing more than screenshots, a few minutes of gameplay video, and a handful of previews. How about a little optimism?
When I first saw the concept art I was hyped to the extreme, then I saw game screens and wanted to puke, it looks horrible, I've seen all the screen shots, watched all the video's, and read the previews and it looks like it has the graphics of the Gamecube and gameplay of the PS1, it could have been epic, but alas, it will fail, Epic Fail.
Right now, I'm going to speculate all of my opinion biasedly, without any experience whatsoever.
That should gage the game accurately enough for me to form a deserving and educated opinion on it.
I'm also going to title another thread with the assumption of consensus in a negative connotation. The goal of this will be to reverberate misinformation with alike absent minded individuals like myself.
Yeah.
Because the other consoles have a generally higher standard of quality and developer than Wii? Not to get System Warsish but it's pretty much true, it's a lot easier to get hyped for Dragon Age 2 by Bioware than it is to get hyped about by Goldeneye from Eurocom... Not much track record there. Not to mention the freaking Conduit from silly old HVS!!!I don't understand all the critisism of upcomming Wii games. Well actually Eurocom would have more of a track record than BioWare, especially on Nintendo consoles. BioWare has only made like 8 games in their history lol and only a single one was for a Nintendo platform. What Eurocom was doing is kind of what they do, they brought over Duke Nukem to the N64, they did the N64 version of The World is Not Enough and of course Nightfire, this is kind of what they do, so in essence they have more of a track record than BioWare, especially in this kind of situation. If it makes people feel better, the Nintendo version of of most games they have done is typically the best version. BioWare had the luxury of working with publishers like EA, Microsoft and LucasArts, so they get a better hype campaign lol. SepewrathYou're "lol"ing at Bioware while building up Eurocom? Eurocom, who are making crappy licensed games more than anything else? Just so you know, "hype" is not the reason why they are better regarded!!! But this all sidetrack stuff anyway. Go Mickey, make a good game :D
