For an online grindfest this actually looks pretty good.
Is there any word on if it's P2P in the states? Are the new classic controllers coming with this game?
Its still unknown if its P2P or not. The classic controller pro is being bundled with this for $60.For an online grindfest this actually looks pretty good.

They don't. LOL.
This game has some big similarities with the Diablo series, which is why I am getting it. Both have some glaring flaws, but both are also extremely addicting for me. MH3 is definitely not for everybody though.
I think people can find something to enjoy even if its not the whole grinding for materials thing. Some people will like the explorative nature of the game, others may find fighting the big monsters is thier thing. Anyway that was a cool trailer, I liked the looked of that Volvagia looking monster in the volcano. And tthe underwater fights should be a nice challenge.SepewrathYeah the whole giant world is what is capturing me. It will be fun just exploring the world and the monster fights look great. I am going to need to get Wii speak sometime though.

Exactly, which is why I doubt many peoples enthusiasm as blind hype.Blindly hyping this game leads to either extreme satisfaction or extreme dissapointment.
Fortunately he's not blindly hyping it.

I have this vague idea, since you're in Japan (or have access to Japanese imports and can read Japanese), maybe you can tell me if I'm at least remotely correct: You hunt monsters (duh!), and each monster requires a different approach, as in, each one has a specific pattern you have to follow if you want to defeat it. You don't gain levels, instead, you get new weapons and items that make you more powerful. The world, while pretty, isn't really that big; instead, everything changes while you progress through the game (new monsters appear at different locations and whatnot). Repetition and grinding are Monster Hunter's bread and butter, the story is pretty much non existent, and it's all about the thrill of the chase, as in, the reward is minimal, it's all about being able to learn how to do something you couldn't do previously in the game.
How's that? Because, if that's more or less what it is about, I'm sold. Arcade values + modern presentation = win, at least to me.

You don't gain levels, instead, you get new weapons and Armor and items that make you more powerful. The world, while pretty, and big, it isnt connected. Each mission sends you to a different enviorment such as snowy mountains/caves, forests, plateaus, Valcanoes etc and while each is pretty big none are directly connected. You finish the mission requirements and get sent back to town, then enter another mission to another enviorment. Repetition and looting are Monster Hunter's bread and butter, the story is pretty much non existent, and it's all about the thrill of the chase and pleasure in accomplishment. It's all about progression, studying and aplying whats learned.

The bold are corrections. Not bad though.
Thanks. I'm in!
But, in conclusion, people should not expect teh epic storyline and Monster Hunter is the opposite of the cinematic experience that modern games have been aiming at, right?

Correct, but not just that. The game is hard. It requires some serious dedication and/or co-op to progress. The game is.... well, hard work :P. People shouldnt expect a fast paced moderately difficult game. Progression in this game can either be moderate, or very slow.
But bringing down Monsters is probably the most satifying thing youll do in any game, seriously.

while kinda pointless (is there an explanation for it?), i think it's more "thrilling" than "frustrating". and even if i never have the feeling of getting stronger, just the fact of playing with other human players in co-op is more than enough to like it. yes, i'm a huge fan of the original crystal chronicles :PPlease Log In to post.
