Ign just made an article on it

According to Ign, in Nintendo's semi-annual financial results briefing, Iwata detailed the future of the Eshop. According to Iwata, Eshop content will soon be accessible via PCs and smartphones, including the ability to make purchases. The feature will not be avialable in the upcoming firmware update, but will be in future firmware updates.

"At the beginning, you will not be able to directly purchase software from your PC or smartphone. Instead, you will need to take a photo of a QR code at the Nintendo eShop by using the camera of your Nintendo 3DS," Iwata wrote, describing the feature. "The Nintendo 3DS will then open that specific page of the Nintendo eShop. That function is already included in the upcoming system update for the Nintendo 3DS. In the future, we will make it so that you will be able to purchase software by using your PC or smartphone."

eshop accessible by pc and smartphone

Also, as the picture above states, demos are coming! and the 3DS will be able to download content (such as downloading a game off of the eshop) while in sleep mode (despite somehow not being mentioned in Nintendo's Direct Video) aswell as the ability to download dlc from the eshop for specific games (probably meaning dlc that requires you to purchase them).

I hope mario kart has some dlc. A few more drivers or some extra tracks could really extend the life of the game.

A browser based store with a better layout would be awesome.

Demo's hopefully start with the next system update and bring a Mario Kart 7 demo. Hopefully Nintendo mandates demo's from now on.

This is Iwata's quote: "For example, software downloads can be done when Nintendo 3DS is in sleep mode, which will lessen the need for the users to patiently wait by while downloading several software titles at once or while downloading software with a large memory capacity." "Several software titles at once" would suggest parallel downloads or being able to queue up downloads. http://www.siliconera.com/2011/10/27/3ds-demos-and-pc-connectivity-to-nintendo-eshop/ Didn't see it in that article, maybe I'm blind? Maybe change the tittle into something like "how the eshop will evolve or grow...." something like that

I doubt they'll do parallel downloads. The 3DS probably can do them, but I imagine that it will just slow the speed of the game. Like how the 3DS can do up to what... 15 StreetPass titles, but it goes in queue of the titles on your list I believe (and it check's the other system's data to see if it should send over the data or not.) It could also be something simple like zipped files that are unpacked when transferred to the other system. Regardless it would be cool, but not being able to download in the background, I see no need for this. I'd rather have them go one by one in queue instead.

My guess would be them going with queue, seeing as how you'll be able to download while in sleep mode. Makes more sense to me. Anyway, whatever they choose we will find out on Friday.

The browser based eShop idea is pretty much the best idea to come out of Nintendo in a very long time. As "improved" as the eShop is (and no I don'y have a 3DS yet), it still looks somewhat clunky to me. A browser based service connected to your friend code seems like a good idea to me. Maybe they should egt rid of friend codes and introduce IDs or whatnot; Or is that to forward-thinking for you Nintendo?

At least it seems Nintendo released how hard they failed and they try to save the 3DS, nice to see that something might change, I'm still an angry launch-day buyer

Don't expect anything great... it took them almost a **** year to even announce demos on the eshop. Nintendo are so far behind the game.

Better late than never, and the Wii and DS can both do demos.

I really dont get this "its a little too late" or "they are far behind" nonsense going on. Will people not get demos off of the eshop for 3DS because the home consoles could do demos for like ever? Are people not going to use the 3DS's verson of a paid dlc system because the other consoles could already do it? (excluding the Wii). No, people are not going to do that. They are going to get the demos because it would be nice to be able to try out a first party 3DS title and even high profile 3rd party 3DS titles before buying it. People are going to use the paid dlc system because it would be nice being able to buy more levels, maps, characters, etc that werent found in the original game.

So if you ask me, Its "about time" not, "A little too late"

Incredible Nintendo. I never thought Nintendo will do this but it's great they're listening to consumers. Consumers wanted better online and marketplace and although DLC has been on consoles, it never made it to handhelds and the 3DS is the first to do it, also demoes is great, the first Nintendo system to have retail and digital demoes. Also Sleep Mode downloads is a nice touch and the most surprising is the PC and Smartphone thing. It's awesome that Nintendo has finally unionized there eshop and the ability to purchase games on smartphones and PC's then download it on your 3DS is awesome. Way to go Nintendo, I'm glad you're learning. Nice improvements to the e-shop can't wait for the November update.

Yay! Well, maybe yay. Hopefully they mean they'll give some good post-release story DLC not just some maps. Those are fine for Mercs, but for Revelations I'd hope they'd put some hard work into the DLC.

I agree with everything you said, Gamingclone, it's about time! It'd be a little too late if they had said they'd support DLC 6 years ago and are only doing it now, but they never said that. I'd also like to point out that a few third-party Wii games actually do have paid DLC, and Animal Crossing:CF had free DLC.

This is great news, and I'm looking forward to demos and DLC as long as it's nothing like $10 Yoshi armor.

Oh, I forgot about those :P

And yes, I think DLC will be nice as long as its not something like unlocking part of the game or making us pay a rediculous sum of cash for something that should be dirty cheap or free.
