Ever get completely stuck, go to a walkthrough, and then go "D'OH." It's sometimes so obvious, and I've found myself doing this twice now.

That's why I use walkthroughs as a last resort. Solving problems/puzzles are all part of the fun in Zelda games!

I managed to get through Twilight Princess without using a walkthrough, and there were definitely challenging parts of that game. But I find these moments enjoyable. Zelda games actually make players think!

Actually I don't feel that bad about it, the only times i've used help in ocarnia of time are for heart pieces, upgraded carrying capacities, and my friend had to help me with the water temple. I did multiple playthroughs of the game and every time i couldnt beat the water temple because i didn't know about going back down the middle room to get the one key after you raise the water and the block uncovers the hole at the bottom of the room. However, I used an online guide quite a lot for Majora's Mask so that I could finally, which I do feel guilty about and regret doing a little. And I also needed help getting started in Twilight Princess, I had no idea you were supposed to throw the eagle at the monkey haha.

I just use guides as last resort, but yeah, I totally get that feeling.

Mine is more like "what the flying sh**"

XP

i'm all for puzzle solving but when its some obscure crap (like in star ocean where i had to line up my shadows from the two torches...) that doesnt really take thinking but more blind luck or playing enough rpg's to know you're supposed to do this stupid stuff, i dont enjoy it at all.

But i'm not far in ocarina and the only part that got me stuck was that you were supposed to use the big stick to carry the fire over.

entrance to the shadow temple. i did everything, including climbing the thing in the center and using din's fire, and nothing. then i read the walkthrough and it said... "use din's fire". i use it and this time it works. ajsdhgasjdgasjdgasdas

Yeah I hate it when what you're supposed to do doesn't work because you were off slightly.

Yeah. The place where you have to trow bombs in the dodongo eyes. I been walking around with bombs for an hour, trying to figure out how to drop the giant head down......

I have done once in OoT the first time I played it when it came out. ***SPOILER*** In the fire temple you just have to jump from the ground to the higher ground in the room where the firewall comes up and moves across the room. I always climbed onto the pillar then tried to jump to it. it is kind of unfair, since just jumping from the floor doesnt really reach, yet it kind of glitches him up there :P.

Agreed, I like Zelda games, but one they do suck at is letting you know what to do or where to go next.

Yeah,I get that alot.

*Slight spoilers*

like in the Forest temple when you are supossed to turn the wall around in circles to find the secret holes in the wall for the buttons or feeding the fish to jabu-jabu. Or in the water temple right before the boss I didnt know I could slowly walk the the slope.(first time I did I fell down so I thought it wasnt the right way to get up there).

*End of spoilers*

Thats what is so great about them. Exploration. Usually its pretty straight forward too.

I just had one of those moments ten minutes ago- I had PM'd a dude about where i'm stuck because he had just got past it according to his post on the" how far are you" thread. I felt like an idiot. What annoys me about most Zelda games post-OoT, is that they cheat- they change small things and then expect you to figure out puzzles based around things you couldn't do before- example: in The Minish Cap, you had to push a clay pot onto a switch at one point. Since when were you able to push the clay pots around??

wow..i had beat this game before so i thought i wouldnt need to look for help.

facepalm

Spoiler--

i couldnt figure out how to get into the fire temple.

i kinda remembered you have to enter it from some other way besides the crater at the top of death mountain..
welp i went to the goron city and tried to move that statue becuase i thought that was the way(and it was)...here is the epic fail.. i tried moving it side to side but not backwards...so i thought that wasnt the way.
until i checked the internet and saw that it was.. ugh.

Not just in Zelda, but in a lot of games with obtuse puzzles or solutions that are significantly easier than what you just did. Or trigger hunts, in the case of JRPGs. The solution to something I can't get or 'what do I do next?' is usually something I've already tried, just in the wrong spot or at the wrong time.

I used a strategy guide when I first beat it (I know, a travesty) so no. However, the only other game I've done that with was Majora's Mask. Zelda doesn't stump me much.
