Could someone please elaborate on SSBBs online? I've heard it's really bad and I kinda wanted to know what's so bad about it.

I might be picking up the game in an hour or so...the only thing is, I will be pretty much playing by myself. I will have some friends over every once in a while, but I've been working a lot lately so it'll pretty much be me. Until I get to college..

Well, when it first came out in the states, the Wi-Fi was terrible. It was just a load of lag. It would often be impossible to even get online because the server was full. As of recently though, the lag has really died down. I can play 4-5 matches with people from across the country and I might have a second or two of lag the whole time. As for whe you get it, we'll just have to see if Nintendo has re-inforced the server for release.

Putting SSBB and online together is kinda like putting the same ends of two magnets together.

I haven't even tried lately, so I don't really know, but when it first came out it was crazy bad.

It may be the worst online gaming experience I've ever had. It's gotten much better over time, and I still play online...but it still isn't good. Friend matches work pretty well now, but I get occasional lag spikes.

Also, adding friends is a hassle. If you want to communicate you have to use some external method (I use Skype on my laptop), or use pre-written messages. And it's just plain missing so many of the options that an online game should have.

When you get it all working correctly it can be a blast, and that's the only reason I still play it. A lesser game with this type of online I would have sold a long time ago.

Obviously the connection between you two is seriously lacking, I've played with people on completely different continents with no lag.

Although, the way I see it, this kind of game just isn't made for online play. Nothing beats playing with people in the same room, that's what this game's about. Make some time and get together with friends, you'll have a blast.

The same thing happened to me! The online play's just broken.

TC, here's the answer to your question:
When the game first came out, you couldn't even play online. People were bummed about this, but got over it because we just assumed it was from the servers being busy and we'd be able to play in a couple of days. We were right that we couldn't play due to flooded servers, but that was just the start of what was to come. Games are incredibly laggy. Obviously, it's possible to have a couple of good games, but the amount of games you'll try only to be unable to play will far outnumber the amount of playable games. Occasionally, you'll be randomly disconnected from the internet as well. It's a mess. Even playing with someone who lives near you is no guarantee that the game will be flawless.

I got the game like a day or two after it came out in the U.S.. Online play for the first week or so was pretty much flooded with people trying to play, and there were some lag and freezing issues. After that, things were pretty much hit or miss when it came down to playing against random strangers. The majority of the games I played with random strangers worked fine, you'd get some bad lag occasionally, or games that would freeze, but not so much as to stop me from playing online and enjoying it. Playing with friends worked fine, and still does. This was before. As of now, it seems a lot of people in the u.s. and japan have stop playing the game, so many of the people still playing are ones with good connections and no problems (like me), which I love.

Its like this. Your playing random strangers. You don't know anything about their connection, where they are, or who they are. This is a very fast paced, chaotic, competitive, fun, as well as a very strategic game. The fact that I can get online and play against random strangers worldwide in one of the best games ever created is a joy. I've honestly enjoyed the online portion of this game the most, and thats where I've spent most of my time with the game. In fact today alone, I probably brawled with random people for about 5 hours. I've put nearly 50 hours into brawling with random people. Out of all the random online brawls I played today, maybe about 3 times did I have any problems. I had one game just freeze, another started lagging badly for no reason in the middle of the match, then maybe one or two games that had noticeable input lag, in which I simply and quickly dropped from the match and found another group to play with.

I don't even have that good a connection but most of my games run absolutely fine, and I have a great time Brawling online. Its best to play this game when no one else in your house is using the internet. You might also want to figure out whether you have firewalls that block incoming connections, which may interfere with you being able to connect/find online games in Brawl. This is the reason some people are still having problems with the game.

As far as lag and freezing goes, like I said it doesn't happen that much, and if it does, you can simply quit the game, you have no control over anybody elses online accept yours. This game requires that everyone be on the same page during gameplay, so that everything runs smoothly, and everything is fair. If I'm downloading a file on my computer while playing online in Brawl, that means I will not be on the same page with the other players, as it takes longer for the data sent by the other players to reach my wii , which will mess it up for everyone playing. This can also happen if I'm playing a random person that happens to be in Australia (im in houston tx usa). My connection may not be fast enough to send or receive (download or upload) the data at a rate that keeps the game running smoothly.. Keep this stuff in mind. If anyone is having trouble playing this game online, Nintendo can't control people's internet connections, all they do is provide matchmaking so that you can quickly find someone to play with. I'm not sure but I think it looks for connections closer to you first.....

I love this game, and think its a masterpiece. If you don't buy it your missing out.

Worst online game I played. The online has lots of lag even on very good connections and the loading times are almost unbearable. It is so much fun beating up on the sand bag for 10 minutes just to be disconnected after a few seconds.

Did Nintendo gave the reason why there was lag in online play? Did it say it has to do with the large number of people playing Brawl online?

Anyway, since there are less people playing online than a few months ago, there should be no concerns over lag issues.

I just wonder how many people played online matches in the first few weeks of the game's North American release.

you choose a character and wait for an oponent to appear, then you fight, with lots of bullet-time effects.

If you think THIS is bad, play DBZ:BT3 online. That lag is HORRENDOUS.

it fluctuates between near flawless to unplayable... find people with good connection to play against. I've also heard that one's ISP has to do with it - if the people have the same one as you, it works better.

In my online Smash Brawl games, I had no lag. Maybe it's because I play at 10pm. It takes a while before the service can find other players. There are other complaints such as no chat, no ability to contact people, etc.

Smash Brawl has two online modes: With Friends and With Anyone.

With Anyone allows you to either Brawl with 3 other people anonymously or watch another Brawl in Spectator mode. When you Brawl with other people, you will not be able to see their names or create text chat with them.

In Spectator mode, you watch a Brawl match and bet on which character/team will win. Then you get coins if you win.

With Friends, allows you to play with Friends. You do need Friend Codes for this mode. Also, you can create pre-made text messages that appear when your character "taunts."

Nintendo Smash Brawl online is really limited, but at least it has online. It's a start. I'm sure I missed some other online functionality, but this should give you the basic modes.

Also, when you connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the game automatically downloads sample stages and replay data.

If you have friends with Brawl, then the online is great and is really useful if your too lazy to all meet at someone's house. However going to someone's house will allways be better, the online lacks the true atmosphere.

Playing with Anyone is just something thrown in for someone who wants a quick match with human players.
