I mean of the original 4 so far, which was your favorite: Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire or Diamond/Pearl?

I think I'd have to go with Ruby/Sapphire.

That's a tough decision. The 1st gen was revolutionary and started the Pokemon franchise. The 2nd gen introduced more new improvements to date than any other gen. The 3rd gen added a large number of new and original monsters and implemented the weather and dual-battle systems...As well as pokemon contests... The 4th gen added online trading and battling and royally screwed up the battle system by categorizing moves differently.

No matter how you look at it they each added something new. As much as I appreciate online play in D/P, I feel like that game (and especially HG/SS) was not as good as the previous three gens. And a lot of people disliked R/S but that game also did a lot for Pokemon and many of the ideas it introduced haven't been utilized as well as they could have been since.

I guess when it comes down to it I'm divided between saying R/B or G/S is my favorite series.

They fixed the game by categorizing the moves differently. Having moves classified as physical/special based soley on their type is ridiculous, and left many Pokemon relying on their lower offensive stats if they wanted a STAB boost.

I started playing when red and blue were released, but stopped at gold and silver. Red and blue have the fresh new factor, while silver and gold are the overall better game. I am thinking of buying heart gold or something soon though, still deciding if it is worth my money. I also am thinking of getting the new golden sun when it comes out, so decisions are tough right now :P.

I'm as sentimental as anyone can get, but I won't choose Red/Blue although I was there from the start. I'll pick Gold/Silver as I have the fondest memories of that generation. Must admit though that I haven't played the 4th generation yet. I've only gone as far as Emerald.

Having played the games for 10 years (and a grant total of at least 4000 hours among all my files) I personally prefer 4th gen, then 2nd gen, then 1st gen, and then 3rd gen.
