I'm really trying to get into turn based and I've been debating between FF IV ds or Chocobos Wii, chocobos actually looked liek it maybe ok, it maybe not be turn based actually was hard to tell on the video i saw.
I have both games and think they are great. It depends on what you are looking for.
Chocobo's Dungeon is a roguelike dungeon crawler. You go into the dungeon which changes the layout everytime you enter it and make your way down through levels to face a boss. If you die in the dungeon you lose all your money and items expect for the ones equiped. You also gain exp and levels plus there are jobs you can do such as blackmage and dragoon. The fighting is turned based in which no enemy makes a move unless you do, kinda like chess. I find it pretty addictive and have put a lot of hours into it.
Final Fantasy IV is of course a remake for the DS and It looks great it plays very well and has what is considered one of the best stories in Final Fantasy. It's not necessarily turn based. The combat uses a real time mechanic where your characters have a bar that fills up and when that bar fills up you can choose your action for that character, but the enemy can also attack while your choosing your action. The bar fills up according to a stat labeled speed and as you level you can get faster so you can make several moves before your opponent does. It can be pretty frustrating sometimes because the game is hard. But if you don't mind a bit of difficulty and want to experience a great story this will deliver.
