Well I haven't played Etrian Odyssey yet... but I'm really addicted to Final Fantasy III From the videos I've seen so far about EO, I'm really not sure about the fighting sequences. I'm not talking about being Turn-based cause they are both turn base... but the enemies... well they are ugly!!!

I'm playing etrian ody ssey right now and is hard!!!! REALLY HARD!!!!! you only can save in town and you'll need like a level 3 billions for your characters to beat a crappy deer in the woods.

Both games are good but if you want a challenge go for EO

I would say flip a coin. Heads for FF3, Tails for EO. I have heard great things about EO and I really enjoyed FF3

Funny you should mention this. I couldn't decide either so I bought both yesterday. Etrian Oddysee is as hard as they say but it's almost completly customizable. I haven't played too much FF3 but what I did play looked gorgeous on the DS.

I am almost finishing FFIII and started Etrian Odyssey to see how it is, and I can say it could be interesting but after I tried it a few times and most of my party died and the 2nd/3rd fight I just gave up, it seems to be stupidly difficult.

It may be just until you level up the guys a bit, but still I would go for FFIII.

FF3 all the way.  even though i havent played that other one i really enjoy playing FF3 although if you like mysteries i might suggest hotel dusk it keeps you in suspense the entire time.

If you're familar with games like Wizardry or other older PC RPGs then you know what to expect with Etrian Odyssey.  You explore in first person and the battles are very hard.  There isn't really a story but the game is very open-ended you create all your characters and choose what quests you want to take or not.  I'm really enjoying it so far, I like it a bit better than FFIII but both are good.  If you haven't played a lot of difficult RPGs then I suggest FFIII although it's no walk in the park either but it's much easier than Etrian Odyssey.

Etrian Oddysey is more of an Elder Scrolls RPG, where it's very open ended and you spend alot of time leveling up in different categories (battling, mining...). I'm loving every second of it.

Edit: You can also select which quests and missions you want to do.

While FF3 is fun I found myself bored with the banal story and situational uses of the classes to get too much into it. On the other hand EO flourishes with its open-ended uses of classes and amazing exploration based gameplay. For me its EO.

I am debating this exact thing myself. I'd go with Etrian Odyssey in a second just because I love a serious challenge, but I have heard zero about the story. I really cannot justify playing an RPG with a mediocre or uninspired story. (although the Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack might get me to overlook even a boring story)

The story in EO takes a backseat for the game a lot of fun miniquests though, its a bare bones hard as h*ll dungeon crawler.  Its funny cause I hate mediocre stories too, but I like this game because theres almost no story.

I played both and i like both, but FFIII is too easy. the only real challenge is the path to the final boss where u need to beat a couple of mini bosses on the way and u cant save in between fights, and in etrian odyssey u get that kind challenge at the start of the game. so if u want something easy get FFIII otherwise get etrian odyssey, both are good games
