Isn't the gameplay in FFIV supposed to be the same as in FFIII? If that is the case I don't think I'll get it cuz I wasn't a huge fan of FFIII. I mean it was good for a while but it got old.

Series games don't tend to change the gameplay type, they usually just change scenary and storyline my friend, hope this helps you in deciding.

How am I supposed to answer this question? Haven't you ever played FF4/2 before in any other installment?

It's the same in that they are both RPG's...but different as well...well as different as a variation as one should expect between the FF titles. The main difference really is that until 4 came out the FF series really hadn't hit the story telling sweet spot. FF4 was a big step for RPG's in terms of story telling.

I would say FF4 is closest to FF7. Heavy on story and light on customization.

So if you like other FF games but not FF3, feel safe getting FF4.

IV has a much better plot, less level grinding (each character has a set job, so you only have to worry about levels, not job levels), characters that come + go (except for Cecil), and a very different setting. These characters have much more personality, and the DS version has voice acting as well.

The battle system is completely different as well.

Final Fantasy 4 is a lot different for 3. One thing being the active time battle system which 3 did not have. Also the story line is much deeper than 3. And there is 5 characters rather than 4 on your party at the end of the game.

^ this

Your action frequency is controlled by a bar; when it fills up, thats when you can attack/useitem/escape/magic etc.

I think that final fantasy IV is hands down the best final fantasy game. I do believe that the other FF games are good even great in some cases but none of them (YES even FF7 which seems to be the FF that alot of people started with) compare to the story line of FFIV. The characters are bada## where as most RPG characters are blond haired fruits these days.

FF6 would be closest to FF7 if anything, but yeah FF4 doesn't seem bad (story wise) like FF3 did IMO.

Again, no. It plays more like V, VI, VII, VIII, X-2, and IX than I, II, III, X, or XII.

Wow, until I read this thread, I was thinking of passing on FF4 because I was worried it'd be too much like FF3... Which would suck.

Wow, the battle system like in FF7? Awesomeness! Now I think I'll be picking this bad boy up.

Well idk what you're talking about with FF7 cuz FF3 was my first FF game, and I was very disappointed. Anyway it sounds like I'll have to check this out.

FF4 has series second best music, and the new versions new arrangements is the main reason to buy this game for me. Music is second only to the FF6.

I think this version is the hard version, if I'm not mistaken.

No, the DS version is an all-new game. The easy version (the SNES version that we got) wasn't really easier in my experience; just stripped-down.
