*Disclaimer-  This post is long! I have some questions though for you Wii guys at the bottom that are important so skip down there if you dont feel like reading my life story :)

I have always been a big Nintendo fan.  Until, the Wii.  Why??  My biggest gripe was the graphics.  Yes, I love awsome graphics.  I was pissed off at Nintendo for not upping them and I was convinced the Wiimote was a gimmick.  Also, I bought a 360 and felt like this was the only company delivering the goods to its customers (reasonable price, powerful system, and they have done a great job with Live and the Arcade).  I was pissed off that I wouldn't get to see my favorite mascots in all new, shiny, bump mapped glory.  I didn't consider the Wii next gen at all.

Why the change??  I'm realizing this controller has potential.  It really sets this system apart from PS3 and Xbox and I commend Nintendo for taking this risk.  I am still somewhat skeptical though, as I dont think the controller has revolutionized any games yet.  I played Zelda and the controller didn't impress me.  I played excite truck and thought the tilt was neat.  I played the sports and this is whats finally gotten me excited.  The responsiveness of this thing is incredible.  I felt an incling of something new and exciting while playing the tennis.  Unfortunately the game is very simple but I'm imagining how awsome a full fledged tennis game could be w/this controller if they devoted it to really emulating the game.  It would take a lot of programming though but if they could nail the spins, angles, power of tennis (and I do think its possible) that would be one hell of an experience.

What I want to know though is this, for you Wiizer's out there.  Has this controller truly added a new level of fun to your gaming? please be objective.  has the change been drastic, minimal, or neutral ? What games do u think take the most advantage of the controller? Finally, do u foresee a major change in games due to the Wiimote or do you think we'll have to wait another generation before that happens?

Thanks for any input

I'd say the change has been kinda neutral so far.  Some games really improve and thrive with the motion sensor controls (madden and godfather come to mind) but alot of the games so far are on the mediocre side when it comes to providing " a new level of fun".  I'm sure once developers get more practise the motion sensor will add a new experience and, ultimately, a level of interaction not quite seen before.

Games that take advantage of wii controller (from what i've played) : madden, wii sports, wii play, godfather are the first ones that come to mind.

I think the wiimote is already changing the gaming industry....look at the mass appeal it has.  When used properly, even this early in the wii-life, the motion controls really do add a previously unseen elements to games.  Just try strangling someone in godfather or throwing a lob bomb pass to marvin harrison breaking for the endzone.  ;)

well for right now i think that the Wii-mote's ablity of motion haven't touched full potential yet but are very close.there are big talks about improvents the inavated controls in do time. one game they said will have the best feel would be MP3 wich should come out some time in the summer. but sofar the idea's that some of the wii games are giving us are in develoment for the best danm game you will ever play. so right now all it is, is a waiting game.

It hasnt really changed gameplay all that much for me. I can go back and forth from my 360 and Wii and they both feel right. I guess it`ll always be that way, but i`ll have to wait and see.

The only game that i play now on a standard type controller is pro evolution other than that it just feels weird.  Changed my gamestyle drastically.  also check out sonic, great game taking advantage of the wii.  Some like it some don't.  I personally think its the best one since sega genesis.

1. Has this controller truly added a new level of fun to your gaming? Yes and No. Wii Sports is my favorite game for the Wii still because its really only possible on Wii. The only other game that I can think of, thats a wii game at heart,  would be Elebits. Still Elebits wore off quick. Some people could argue in favor of Wario Ware as well...

I think its still early, but most of the Wii games I've played are simply not very awsome from a control standpoint. Still Zelda, Paper Mario and others were designed for gamecube with tacked on motion... Theysimply don't offer much you couldn't get elsewhere but prettier. I think a Zelda game that truly incorporated motion controls would be amazing. I also have played all the FPS games for the Wii and while none of them are perfect I think there truly is hope for a Halo level FPS game on Wii... Once the online multiplayer hits of course.

The change has occured, but its still gonna be a while I feel the potential has been reached. This is true for basically any new development in gaming. The first games to use analog sticks or a 3d camera just don't play thatwell by our standards of today...

2. What games do u think take the most advantage of the controller? Sports, FPS (one day), RTS (one day; and it could be the first great one for consoles IMO) and maybe sword, racing and flying games to a lesser extent.

Racing games are probably gonna end up better on ther PS3, because they have motion control too and established racing games/fans + graphics and online multiplayer. Fighting games are probably the worst fit for the Wii, but with the classic controller they can do what Mortal Kombat is doing to help balance things out for new guys. If you wanna play Mortal Kombat with your mom just give her the WiiMote and you use a classic. The fight turns fair IMO.

3. Finally, do u foresee a major change in games due to the Wiimote or do you think we'll have to wait another generation before that happens?

In terms of control I don't forsee too many huga changes or new genres coming, but the Wii really does have the power to bring non-gamers into the fold. I don't think they will all necessarily go out and buy a Wii, but they will play yours with you...

I realize the awsomeness of how responsive the Wiimote is.  Other than sports though, and this seems to be confirmed by you guys, it hasn't added a SIGNIFICANT level of fun.  I still see the potential but I'm not gonna buy one now.  I would if i had the money though lol.  FPS style games could be very interesting indeed ...

someone made a comment about how  popular the Wii is.  I dont think its a testament to the actual fruits of the controller at this point.  I think it has more to do w/good marketing and being the 'it' system at the moment.  I dont mean that to take away from its potential of course.  So we got Wii sports, Madden, Wario Ware, and Elebits taking the most advantage of this thing ...future? metroid, mario hopefully

from what i've read Mario doesn't do much nor does smash bros.  Metroid sounds promising.  What about paper mario?

Its not revolutionary... yet, but it is refreshing and much more fun than pressing a button. Just play both versions of Zelda and you'll know what I mean.

Super Mario Galaxy looks good man, you should watch a video. Not much is know about SSBB and MP3 is probably gonna rock like the previous games...As for SPM, I dont know, but I heard it was good :D

I only have two games (want more, but college and wallet won't allow) Zelda and Trauma Center.  Zelda is certainly better with the new aiming system, but not significantly more so.  Trauma Center on the other hand would not be anywhere near as fun with a regular control skeme.

rent WarioWare. If there is any game that makes you realize how much fun the wii remote is...it's WarioWare.

what you have to realize is that Wii has basically just started out. It's intuitive controls are excellent, although some of them may not be as great, you have to rmember that it will slowly get better as time goes by. We just have to be patient, but what we have now is perfect!

it's good to see that you finally understand the possibilities in the nintendo wii controller.i was very skeptical myself, but once i tried the system for some weeks i finally understand how awesome the nintendo wii was.The only thing that lacks is good games, only Zelda TP and wii sports in multiplayer has been worth to invest a lot of time in :).

Wii Sports - only game that truly uses the controller well.tomarlyn

/agree. When I want a great use of the Wii controller, that's the game I put in. I was just thinking today that I wish more games would come out that would use the controller as well... oh well, maybe later this year (I hope...). However, Zelda, Trauma Center, and Super Paper Mario all make use of their fairly limited (some moreso than others) motion control features very well. With that said, it seems like this could just be a regular old console. Most of the games that have excelled haven't used the most of the controller yet, but that's to be expected since the console is still new.

I HOPE that developers (and not just Nintendo!) will soon get the Wiimote understood and start creating some truly great games. I love the controller, I love the system, and like the OP said, it has a lot of possibilities - we just have to wait (and hope) that these possibilities become realities.

sorry to break your bubble santana but MP3 has been delayed.

I think the wii mote had effected god father and mario the most. i mean mario dosnt use the tilting but pointing at the screen to find hiden doors is a total change for mario and i love it. god father as was said befor, strangling is soo fun! i reccomend all killers to get god father so they dont have to kill real people! it feels just about the same in god father... i would know... not realy :D but maby... you'll just have to keep an open mind wiht wii games and you dont notice the graphics. just how much more fun it is compaired to x box 360 / ps3

I think one aspect that nobody talks about much is the built in speaker in the Wii remote.  I know the sound quality leaves something to be desired, but having it there adds a lot to so many different types of games.  A simple bell tone in bowling, or a wiffing sound in golf goes a long way in emmersing the player deeper into the game.  I think next gen , all the game systems will incorparate this function into their controller.

based on all the replies here ...it is obvious to me that the jury is still out on true, next level innovation.  I have the natural instinct to want everything to be mindblowing NOW, but its not realistic.  Most likely, there will be a steady improvement in the implementation of the controller in its ability to make a game more fun.

I still have to throw this idea out there ....the system has been in development for a long time.  Logic will dictate that the biggest quantum leap of the Wiimote is in the first batch of games.  Why? you go from standard controller (baseline) to introducing Wiimote (what dev. were able to do w/it as seen by todays games).  That difference must far outweigh any progression from the current games to future games, even if there will be a progression.  It's like (a-0)>or = to b (future games) -a.  Since the controller's motion capabilities will not change we will only see variations of its use in the future.  *the controller can't do something that is not in its design.  The revolution is here allready ..it would be foolish to expect anything more than an evolution on the current formula.

lol. anyways on my input if you would like a great graphics game that is not that big on motion sensing get zelda TP.If you want less realism and more motion sensing try out trauma center or wario ware. But we are still looking for a wii game that has the best of both worlds.

It's added to the level of fun.  The amount added depends on how much use you really get out of the remote.  Wii Sports is a game that'd normally be boring but is amazing because of the controller.  Zelda, on the other hand, is only marginally better.

Logic will dictate that the biggest quantum leap of the Wiimote is in the first batch of games.  Since the controller's motion capabilities will not change we will only see variations of its use in the future.  I would be foolish to expect anything more than an evolution on the current formula.

I don't think this is accurate for a few reasons.  First, most of the games currently available on the Wii spent a good portion of their development cycle on the GC.  Many of the ports, you can tell were thrown together with very little time spent refining (or in some cases thinking about) the controls.  It makes sense that games that have been able to spend their full development cycle on the Wii will be making much better use of the controls than the games we have today.

The Wii can hit genres that have never really worked on consoles.  The RTS genre could finally have the control found only on the PC.  In fact, the entire strategy genre is opened for the Wii.  I don't know if it's very likely we'd see a turn-based strategy game on the Wii, but the controls would be leaps and bounds better than Sim City on the SNES or X-COM on the PS1.

Of the genres that are fairly prevelant on the consoles.  With enough time spent in development, FPS should have a degree of control that hasn't been seen in consoles.  As Wii Sports demonstrates, sports games fit perfectly with the right controls.  It wasn't until Wii Sports that I even enjoyed golf on a console.

The best thing about the controller is that there are so many possibilities available.  You only need to read this forum to see how many different ways there are to control the same type of game.  And, it'll be great if developers play around with different control schemes trying to find the best fit.

I just hope Lucas Arts is smart enough to develop a Star Wars game that makes full use of the remote as your light sabers.  Light saber duals where the saber matches your exact movement would be awesome.  Then just throw in some force powers and WGAF about the single-player.

I think the best use of the wii remote has been on Godfather.  I couldn't see that game being as close as fun on any other console.

When I play a new Wii game, it starts off a bit **** then I get good at it and all of a sudden it's awesome. Then after a while it becomes second nature so the change doesn't seem that much different from regular consoles. But, for example, going back from SSX Blur to Tricky was unbearable. The PS2 controls felt unresponsive and it was thoroughly boring.

So I guess you really notice the 'awesomeness' (word?) of the Wii control scheme when you go back to a conventional control method.

Since I've being playing Wii Games using the Motion Controlls...it is a serious problem...the serious problem being that when you try to go back to the old Analouge sticks...YOU CAN"T! It's crazy, and I am not ever exagerating here...I had being playing Call Of Duty 3 Wii and when I went to my freinds house to play the 360 I seriously couldn't aim for peanuts, I found that just pointing with the Wiimote at enemies far more entertaining. The Wiimote honestly spoils you in the terms of gameplay.

In about late 07 and 08 we will start seeing some nice graphics from the Wii. I'll quote IGN on that one for evidence, (Australia's outreach inbox) "For starters, a lot of the Wii launch titles were either reworked ports with tacked on Wii controls, ala Call of Duty 3 or Far Cry, or they were fairly simplistic mini-game collections, like Raving Rabbids. Games like this were designed to test the waters; they were developed by third or fourth-string teams (that is, smaller teams with less experienced staff and lower budgets) by big companies who didn't initially want to invest too much into an unproven technology.

Now that the Wii is selling like drugs at a Hollywood after-party, companies like EA and Activision, Ubisoft and Square-Enix are really sitting up and taking notice. This first year - up until October or November, we'd wager - will have a lot of chaff between the good releases. But by 2008, once all the first-gen, tester-games are out, the gorgeous, high-quality gamestuffs will also start to fill out the shelves. Companies like Nintendo are in for the long-term; they're saving the best stuff for high-sales periods, too - Christmas in particular. So expect a few biggies to drop before the year's end anyhow. "

If you have a look at SSBB for example it looks really impressive, and very big difference from the GC version, and it's only going to get better. Big future games are gonig to be released due to the fact that Developers are seeing that the Wii is really selling like hotcakes, their bringing out there big guns...Guitar Hero 3 Wii for example is going to rock! So is No More Heros. ANd yes you've got Nintendo realeasing their killer ap every so often, Metroid 3, SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy, can't wait to see Pikmin 3 baby!!

:D Hope this information helped.
