I'm playing on casual mode, all my characters are maxed out (all level 20 and my dragon girl, forgot her name, is level 30). Anyway, I'm at like chapter 20 or something, and honestly it is too hard. The enemies often do like 30-40 damage, and my characters keep dying. Eventually Chrom or my created character die off and I have to start over.

I always pair up my characters, and I always have elixirs. They usually use steel or silver weapons. I don't understand why they take so much damage, it's a bit ridiculous considering how many enemies are on the field. Could it be because I never use seals? Every time I found one, I sold it. Anyway, Master Seals won't work anymore because my characters are above level 10. I don't remember seeing any Second Seals, and if I did come across them, I'm guessing they're pretty rare. Wouldn't these seals bring me back to level 1 anyway, even though I can change class? What's so good about them?

Anway, do you guys have any advice? Thanks!!

You can use Master Seals anytime after a character hits level 10, they don't have to be exactly the same level for them to work. You pretty much have to use Master Seals at some point so your team can stand a chance at later chapters.

Don't master seals just let you change you class, i.e. archer to mage? What benefit does that have? And wouldn't my guys go back to level 1, meaning I'd have to re-train them?

Not a bad thing at all, in fact, your stats carry over when you get promoted to a second tier. Besides, you don't waste experience because you hit the level 20 or 30 cap.

Second Seals are for class changes. Master Seals upgrades the character into a stronger version of their class (archers become snipers, knights become generals, etc.). It resets them back to level 1, but it increases their stats and lets them keep their weapon levels and skills. Really, the only choice you need to make with Master Seals are what specific kind of upgraded class you want.

Okay now my new question is... How do I use these master seals? I bought one for each character and they all have one in their inventories. What do I do with them now?

Go to the map screen press X to go to the Inventory and then choose which character you want to upgrade and then choose the Master Seal and choose Use.

also, second seals just send you back to level 1 "in theory". you might get a slight stat drop, but in the end it pays off. it's kinda like going prestige :P

If you ever move onto harder difficulties too, skills become more important to play. switching classes gives you new skills, and more levels to work with.

Yeah but I think that after you beat the few extra side missions on the map, there are no more of them until you beat another level of the actual game

The bonus box levels are ridiculous. I pick a level three, and her support are level three people with like 30 in Str, or I pick someone who's level 6 and they have much higher level supports. I pretty much only go for level 1s now.

You also need to take classes into account, Blab. A level 3 sniper is going to be better than even a level 20 archer.

Easy victory: equip Tharja with five nosferatu's, put her out in the open/near the enemy, sit back and enjoy the show.

I usually use the outrealm gate to grind my characters levels & to build support, on this game the supports are unlimited.

I always use reeking boxes to call Risen to the map or just wait for more Risen to appear and battle them when they show up.

Reeking boxes are an easy way to grind up levels for characters. Use one to summon enemies, then put only 2 characters on the field: the 1 character you want to level up +1 additional character to pair up with them if you want to build support levels. The boxes can be bought at regular shop in the Longfort and Carrion Isle.

Levels in FE games are more indicative of how much growth you still have in the class than a measure of your overall progression, and Base vs. Promoted classes have long been a part of it. In the GBA games you'd have a promotion item that would be based on your class, while the GC and Wii games promoted you once you got past level 20. Since Awakening lets you use Second Seals to change your class, take advantage of it. It's more of a sidestep since the game still remembers base growths that you gained from leveling up, but the skills that you learn can be equipped on any class. For example, since Kellam is a defense-heavy tank with good Defense, it might seem pointless to switch him to the priest class with a def. cap of 22 and no way to attack, but he'll learn Miracle that way, which gives him the chance of surviving an otherwise fatal blow with 1 HP instead of dying, which might be helpful against a magic attack that he would normally be weak against. When his levels get high enough, you can either use a Master Seal to promote him to War Monk or Sage to learn new skills there, then use a Second Seal to make him a Knight-based class again, or you can switch him back to a Knight and go up through the ranks that way. I switched Chrom to the DLC class Dread Fighter after maxing him out as a Great Lord b/c you can learn a skill that boosts Resistance by 10, which is his only major weakness. You can use Master Seals at levels as low as 10 (or 15 if they're a special class like Manakete or Villager), but you only really want to do that if their stats are green and have nowhere to grow).
