7.5
Can anyone tell me if the online is active/competitive? That's the only info I wish the review touched on more.

Pretty good review actually! O_o
Anyway the online is okay, in my opinion. Reason I'm not a huge fan is because you use your units from the single-player. Turning the online into more of a contest of who has more time to uber level weapons/units in single-player, instead of straight up who has the better strategy better.
It was pretty much like this in the multiplayer mode for the GBA games. And yes, they had multiplayer mode, but it was kinda of an arena. And yeah, i'm not surprised that GS gave it 7.5, through its hard to believe that Fire Emblem games might be starting to lose their "special touch".Pretty good review actually! O_o

Maybe, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn got a 6.0 I think, but I agree, that game was boring as hell. Need to check this one out though.

Losing thier special touch, heck I felt they were just getting the hang of developing it! I felt it was getting stronger. I just wish they would advance the main stroy some. I for one would buy more of them. I would pay much more and more often if they would produce them at regular internals, like a day time serial show. You don't need to change much, heck in FE you're in it for the play, not so much the changes, not thay they don't help, I for one thought these newest ones were RIGHT ON THE MARK.Not really surprising to me. The story wasn't fleshed out at all especially compared to the FE releases in NA. The text is really well written, it's just there isn't that much of it, and consequently characters aren't developed hardly at all. There's also a few things missing that take out strategy, like Rescue. Everything else was the best it's ever been in Fire Emblem gameplay wise.
I'm not familiar with the Fire Emblem (or strategy RPGs for that matter) games but this seems like a good place to start.
The GBA versions were easier, definitely. My main gripe with the DS version is the new battle scenes. The 3d models just look ugly compared to the sprites used for the GBA. The huge number of characters is also strange - I don't need 4 fighters on the 5th level, but that's just me.
The thing I like most about Fire Emblem (or liked)are the character-building support conversations. These, to me, are what enhanced the strategy of it, making me not want my developed characters to die. If I send some unknown, uncared about unit to his demise, who cares? I knew nothing about them. I can't believe they basically got rid of support convo's over the last two games.
Ok, so i suppose this will be hard for me to judge since my first game of Path of Radiance. I felt that game was fantastic, in just about everyway. The character development, the gameplay, the visuals, all were fantastic. i got radiant dawn for one sole reason, the story. I needed to know the conclusion to characters i had become so invested in... This game looks great, but i can't help but feel its missing so much. The visuals, i personally hate them. Sprites and 2D animation is far superior on the DS than poor 3D models; just look at castlevania.
On a side note, i know the creator of fire emblem does not like the idea of fire emblem on a portable. So the fact that not much effort was put to push teh series further is no surprise to me. I would like this game, but i'm just not sold yet.
