Great score, but not really a reliable way to gauge how non-Nintendo review sites will receive it.

True, but Nintendo power gave OoT a 9.5 which is lower the its average. Its all random.

There are many, many, MANY more examples of them rating games higher than the average.

I know that. But as long as it is done one time, theres a chance statistically that it will happen again. Theres other factors to consider. Alot of people love Mario and might rate this game high anyway. On the other side some people might be sick of mario and rate it lower. Theres no proof that a 96% is a biased review or an unbiased review until more reviews surface.
That's a pretty good score for a sidescroller with no online play that looks like a slightly prettier version of the DS game. In all seriousness, though, I'm pleased with the good score. I hope that more "neutral" sources will be as positive, even if I am a little bitter about the game's lack of ambition. Emmenite7
Wheres the lack of ambition ?
GREAT! My hype for this game has slowly been built up and now I can't wait!
Really I think all the console-specific magazines (i.e; Nintendo Power, Official Xbox Magazine etc.) really aren't as biased as people give them grief for. I think they probably try hard to come off as NOT biased becaue they know people would assume that. I see legit reviews come quite often from those mags. I believe in them.

This.
Nintendo doesn't even make Nintendo Power anymore. Some other company does.

The publisher of Nintendo Power is Future U.S., the American subsidiary of Future, the publisher of the U.K. gaming publication EDGE.
Good score, It would be likely a 8.5 to 9.0 here. But I'm still puzzled. Why no online play? This could have been awesome

The official word is that they wanted this to be a loungeroom experience. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree. To be fair, I'm not a massive fan of online games to begin with, but this is one game where I wouldn't find it fun unless my friends or family were in the room with me. I suppose I can understand some people's frustations over it though..
While I'm happy with the score OBVIOUSLY :P, I'll wait for the next review to come in. ONM's scores are absolutely ridiculous and anything with Mario in it tends to get a AAA rating. Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics Games got a 9.1 !
well the law of odds say there has to be a bad one eventually, right?Yeh, it's guaranteed to be good. I mean, has there been a bad Mario platformer?

why not a "play with CPU" option instead. same effect. the reason's the same wii sports has no online: playing against someone you cant even see or talk to is as fun as playing with the computer. the fun is in playing with your friends right next to you.Good score, It would be likely a 8.5 to 9.0 here. But I'm still puzzled. Why no online play? This could have been awesome

not even MMORPGs (even with voice chat and even a camera, if you want) can beat local multiplayer in terms of multiplayer fun.
i shouldnt even care about replying this, but whatever. so you're saying playing together with your friend, even though he's just a mute character, is just as fun as playing with a person right next to you?

No I don't say that. I said online multiplayer with VOICE-CHAT didn't I?
All I'm saying is that playing online with a friend with voice-chat can be incredibly fun even if it offers a different experience than having your friends over to play with you.
I never compared online multiplayer to local multiplayer. You on the other hand said that playing online with a friend is basically the same as playing with the CPU.
