i've played games like call of duty 4 ( the ds one ) and metroid prime hunters. I really like them and their unique controls, using the touch screen, d-pad and shoulder buttons. personally, i think that its the second most effective first person shooter control while the computer mouse is no.1. so what do you think about it?

he just asked us "what do you think about it?"... there is no "ok... and?" about it.

anyways, for my opinion. i totally agree. the ds has the best handheld fps' and the control scheme can rival the good ol' dual analog sticks. i haven't tried any shooters with the wii yet so i'm not sure how good those controls might be cos they seem pretty damn good. but ofcourse, mouse+keyboard is always gonna be no.1

Yea, the touch screen actually resembles the mouse in this games, and makes it more intuitive and more precise, which is good =)

I actually find a controller far easier to aim precisely than a mouse and keyboard or the DS touch screen.

I actually played Call of Duty 4 on the DS, and believe me, the aim is precise, and most importantly, quick. I felt that maybe developers should start taking advantage of the DS's potential and start making a good FPS game for it.

Yea, the problem with mouse/D-pad/Analog controls for Shooters is that the sensitivity might not give you perfect control.
However, with a touch screen, what u get is precision, and reaction speed equal to your brain to hand communication speed xD
But of course, there will always be a particular control scheme that people will prefer, i actually like the mouse more than touchscreens even though the latter should actually be better...

I love the control scheme. I actually do better on the DS FPSs than the console ones. I will say the only drawback is my hands would cramp up after playing awhile even with the bigger DSlite stylus. Fortunately, I took care of that by using an even bigger 3rd party stylus.

The DS is perfect for FPS games. Now using the DS's ability to support up to 16 players at once, and WI-FI, Nintendo could make a really good online shooter.

I didn't like the controls for Metroid (haven't played CoD4) but then again I didn't give it much of a chance, I stopped playing it after about 5 minutes.

hmmm... maybe there is a lack in sound and graphics for fps on ds. my hands also get crampy when using the touch screens. but overall they are all okay. maybe one day nintendo might make another ds which has better graphics and sound. we all hope so!

Has anyone here played Moon? It's a very good FPS game for the DS. The controls work quite well, and the graphics are stunning. They're almost at a Windows 2000 level, which seems to be pretty good.

Call of Duty 4 also played very nicely, I thought. Pesonally, I'd like to see more First-Person games for the DS in the future. I think they can only get better from here.

I was surprised how precise it is! The ds and Wii could have the best FPS' if someone would acctually make a decent one on the platform!

Well unfortunately a big part of FPS is having the biggest and best graphics these days so they will always focus on the more powerful consoles.

FPS games area natural fit for the DS, although holding the system is a little awkward when you've got the stylus in one hand and you're trying to hold the DS, strafe, and fire with the other.

Yeah I agree, COD 4 on Ds imo is underated, but cod 5 ds is even better with online play. Ds fps is quick and responsive on games such as Moon, Dementium, Metroid Prime and a few others

I didn't like CoD4 on the DS very much but Metroid Prime Hunters was a good game, especially on multiplayer. Well, mostly local multiplayer...there are way too many hackers online...

I like FPS on the DS, I just have one problem, the enemy AI is just not very good. It'd be great for them to make the AI of the games a lot better

The Ds should have more shooters. Nintendo has built a home console and handheld that are perfect for FPS it just seems no dev. want to utilize the potential of them.

i found that oddly somehow by using the touch screen helped me get better at first person shooters on the 360 which i still really dont care for because i hate the controls. but i really like using the touch screen as a camera :)

It's a nice idea in theory, but I personally found the controls of Metroid Prime Hunters agonizingly awkward and uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to play another DS FPS after that. It was quite painful with all the hand-cramps and quite annoying having to constantly re-adjust my grip.
