I just got my Nintendo Wii yesterday. I just connected it to the wireless internet since I got a wireless modem. I went to update it and its been about and hour but the progress bar has not moved and I can't even turn it off by pressing the power button. What should I do? Just be more patient?

If it is not moving at all then something is up. You probably need to pull the cord from the back and let is sit for a minute or two then plug it back up and try again on a full connection.

Don't pull the cord EVER!!!!  That can harm the system.  If you have to turn off your wii in a situation like that hold down the wii power button to do a hard power down!!!

Pulling the cord does not hurt electronics as much as people say it does. Its okay to pull the plug its not going to hurt it. I have studied on electronics for years and trust me it doesnt hurt unless your saving a game and sometimes it doesn't even bother that.

it's about corrupting files, and it's companies say that to try and get away from thigns like fixing broken consoles / electronics

anyway, yeah it's not working, could be a timed out internet connection or a choke in the wii, who knows, but what i do know is it's needing to restart

It's NOT normal for the update to take long.

Just change the channel on the router to either one or 11

If it has really been an hour, unplug it.  I would just try again after you turn it back on.  It should work fine.
