Wow, you are missing out. I got online with Mario Strikers Charged for the first time with my cousin (who finally rebought a Wii) and it was a blast. Of course we were using our XBOX 360's to chat with one another while playing. There was a lot of friendly ribbing, joking, and the usual rivalry talk: You suck, here's the comeback, it's like the Celtics/Lakers down 2-0, who in their right mind picks Waluigi, damn I should've picked Yoshi, Mario blows, WHAT THE?!?!?!

Yeah, anyways, a lot of fun. Now, to have played him with no communication and only the idea that the team I'm playing against happens to be controlled by my cousin? Lame, lame, lame. It would be no different than playing the CPU. Seriously, voice chat is just essential to online play.

What really angers me is Nintendo markets the Wii as this all family device, but then when it comes to playing family they don't even let you say hello unless it's some pre-texted message. Nobody wants to type in a hello.

If you don't want voice chat, don't put on a headset. I've definitely been there playing games like HALO online, tha last thing I want is to talk to some annoying stranger. But when you can't just have simple exchanges of competiveness with your cousin, there's a problem.

Finally, someone gets it. I play my 360 all the time and that's half the fun. I really hope they bring it to the wii. I played a friend from school online at brawl yesterday and it may as well have been a CPU battle, there's no human-ness to it.

Not really. I play my brothers and friends often in several Wii games, and it's nothing like playing against AI. I usually talk about the games with them later and sort of relive the moment. For people I can't talk to in person, I use instant or text messaging. But regardless of whether I talk to them or not, it's always much different from playing against AI. They're smarter and better, and in the case of my brothers, we almost always tend to do the same kind of things and react in the same ways. It's always a better experience when I'm playing against someone I know, even though I can't talk to them directly through the Wii.

I'm not opposed to voice chat. and I won't say that it adds nothing to the experience, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary for a good online experience.

I agree that they should have voice chat. At least with friends.

voice chat does add something to a game. nintendo should have had it with the wii and made an option to turned it off, but they are sill making millions of dollars so i cant argue.

I play Pro Evo online all the time and each match is very different. You get a variety of playstyles that you don't get against an AI.

If I can get lag-free online play, I really don't care. If I REALLY needa talk to the person I'm facing I'll just call them up.

Some of these responses are exactly what I expected, oh I'll just talk about the game later, oh I'll just call them up on my telephone, oh I recognize tendancies that differentiate online from the CPU.

Come on guys, if it were anybody but Nintendo it would be inexcusable. Playing without voice chat with a friend or family member is like playing together in the same room with a concrete wall between you, and the only way you can communicate is with knocks.

You know the fun of playing with friends or family in the same room together, the screaming, the yelling, the heated arguments, the fun? Yeah, that's what voice chat can bring to the table when you can't get together under the same roof.

I'm not a chatty guy when it comes to strangers and actually don't use my headset 90% of the time when playing online on the 360 against strangers, but when it comes to friends and family the lack of voice chat is unexcusable. We shouldn't have to turn to our 360's, telephones, or things like Skype.

For the last time... Nintendo has voice chat. They introduced it in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Not many people used it, so Nintendo saw that as a bad move and stopped implementing it. So please, blame everyone who didn't talk to their friends on the DS before bashing Wii.

Maybe it's because I can just go to Live when I want voice, but I really don't want or need it on the Wii. There's so many annoying, screaming, cursing little brats on Xbox Live that half the time I do just turn my headset all the way down. It's awesome in team based games when you're playing with people you know, but even in those gametypes I've found that when playing with random people most of the time they don't use the headset to inform someone of the location of a sniper or where you're being invaded from, but rather to yell profanities or compalin that every death is BS.... sometimes even having long, drawn out conversations about what happened at school that day.

It gets bad enough in what are supposed to be "Mature" games like GTA IV and Call Of Duty 4... I can't imagine how horrible it would be in more kid-friendly games like Strikers, Brawl, or Mario Kart (and before you jump on my case, I don't think of those games as "kiddie", but they're certainly more accomidating to a younger audience than a Grand Theft Auto).

Let's face it, the Wii is directed at families, which means it has much more young players. I'm well aware that there's plenty of immature grown men online, but more kids equals more cursing, screaming, trash talking little munchkin voices... and I can certainly do without that.

I personally like to play Wii games online when I want a break from all the idiots on Live. I like playing Brawl and not having to listen to some little brat scream that I like men (and not in those words) when I beat him. It's nice and relaxing.

There's a simple solution... if you absolutely MUST talk to your friend/cousin/uncle while playing a game of Brawl, use your cell phone. Free long distance, free nights and weekends... and you can get a wireless headset pretty cheap now.

Well, you wouldn't have to put people like that on your friends list, would you? Basically that's all what voice chat guys want. Being able to speak to your friends. Who cares about random strangers?

Im not really too fussed whether or not the Wii ends up with voicechat. But then I am in the lucky position to be in a house with three other gamers at all times, so if I want to play against my friends, I can in the best form ;)

Saying that, I would definitely use it (and play online more) if it had it. It is a massive oversight on Nintendo's part, but I can understand that they wanted to keep their squeeky clean image.

I remember reading something, however, about a voice-to-text translator that Nintendo was working on; perhaps this will be an answer in the future? It would be able to adequately censor swearing, and people could talk to their friends.

Knowing Nintendo, probably not ;)

To be honest, I want them to focus more on great games and a solid state storage solution.

You people who don't want voice chat, ever heard of a mute button? it's implemented on most online games with voice chat, at least in my experience. Couldn't this change your viewpoints? I mean, just because you don't want voice chat because little kids are annoying is highly frustrating, but not being able to even talk to friends is just lame. If you can have voice chat, might as well just put it in, and let the users decide if they will use it or not.

My 360 Mic is broken, and I really only miss it because I can't hear what people are saying. If I'm playing Wii with a friend, we usually chat over MSN or we could get ventrilo or teamspeak going.

Obviously to some of us, it is excusable. Our responses stem from our opinions about voice chat. Most of us would like to have it, but we don't think that the lack of it absolutely ruins the experience. Our responses are our reasons for thinking that. It has nothing to do with Nintendo. I just don't see it as a necessary feature.

Having online voice chat would be nice, but it's not that important. When it comes down to it, nothing beats playing a friend in the same room.

No just no. I don't think voice chat would replace or be similar than playing together on the same room. There's something special playing games on the same room. At least, you see the person which it's more social than just talking or chatting.

Voice chat means nothing for me. I did have the experience about that. Most of time, it's kids that swearing or whining on you. Online games mean nothing for me either. I only play at Dr.Mario worldwide while I play on SSBB more with people in my region.

There's other way to talk with friends. Also, why should I talk with them when I play against them? When I play at Super Smash Bros, I don't want to chat with them. I only want to beat them.

The problem with having voice chat when you don't want to use it is that some users won't play with you unless you have it.

I personally think voice chat is a negetive feature and I do not want to use it.

Because of that I was kicked from my Guild Wars Guild for not using Vent.

I don't need voice chat, but I understand exactly where the TC is coming from. It's like Nintendo chooses to be a step behind in everything - it works for them now but how long will that last? Gamecube - no online, no DVD playback, low third party support Wii - lackluster online, no DVD playback, good third party support, still no voice chat Now I know Nintendo picked the right route because they seem to know best, but it can only last so long before it catches up to them. If they stepped up their game in ALL forms, they'd be even better. This of course would come with its faults such as high price and little distinguishably between consoles, but I wonder how cool a Nintendo console would be with everything in it. :P [QUOTE="SirSpudly"]For the last time... You can say Nintendo implemented voice chat in Pokemon and Metroid, but it was done poorly if you ask me. If they had done a better job with it then maybe more people would have used it.

I definitely agree with this statement which is why I think Nintendo should do voice chat.

When you get 12 year olds singing into the mic, people blaring music so you can't hear anyone else, or people screaming obscenities because they lost, it is incredibly aggrivating. And since most online wii games I've played don't really need you to talk to other players to co-ordinate or anything, voice chat would purely be a luxury and really isn't necessary.
