they can squeeze in more players online like say 32 player Mario Kart online or should they make the graphics the best possible and have only 2-4 player online. Or find somewhere in between basically to what degree do they sacrafice gameplay for graphics? (32 player online would be a big boost for the series if they designed it around that.)

I don't understand.Why do I want 32 people racing me? Playing against other people was good enough.They should make it like 8 or 10 people online.

nah, 32 players isnt needed. 8 is fine. i doubt nintendo would dumb down the graphics

a DS can have 4 ONLINE, and can have 8 on wifi lan.  Last I checked CS:S can have 64.  And CS barely holds up to today's standards.

yeah, even if it were necessary to dumb down the graphics to have 32 players, thats a lil excessive IMO. I think 8-12 is fine

32 player online would be cool, but a bit busy and like crazy... I think an option between 8 and 12 people would be good. Maybe a few extra characters than last time would be good but 32 online would be insane!

32 player online would not work in mario kart unless you want 3 luigis 4 toads 7 marios 4 bowsers , 10 yoshis and 6 warios

instead of losing to 3 cheaters i can lose to 31
if they are not cheating they will probably just disconnect
unless they have an anti cheat system that continually gets upgraded this will happen

K if it's like DS (which Nintendo said it is) it's running off of 802.11 not 802.11g (like PSP). By dumbing down the graphics you'd minimize the lagginess (they took out a few courses in Mario Kart DS because they would have made it lag really bad). So that's where my logic comes from. 32 players does seem excessive unless they opened up the tracks and cut down on the weapons...which wouldn't really be Mario Kart. I'm just trying to find what people think the compromise should be, you know they're avoiding directly saying this but Super Smash Brothers Brawl is having the same problem.

8 player online is all you need. 32 player online? 32 players in a race would be a cluster f#$k. it would be a mess. 8 players in a level is the perfect number especially for the short tracks its known to have. i think the graphics for the GC were fine. they need to concentrate more on level design and more tracks more than anything else. more 'well thought out' tracks this time. MK:DD tracks sucked. but the intro to special weapons was awesome. so make more playable characters each with a unique special. get rid of yoshis dino kart. and make more tracks-32 instead of 16. and possible add in drafting.

This is the only wii game i am wicked excited for. ya im interested in galaxy and prime 3. but i am legitimately psyched for mario kart. its just a straight up fun game. they just have to make it longer with more tracks. better secret short cuts that are harder to get to make more of a difference if u succeed in using it. I would just love to design a level for this game. they definately didnt take their time with level design in MK: DD

Considering the fact that no one here actually programs games for the Wii, this conjecture is pointless. None of us have any idea how good they could make the graphics or objects they could cram into a race track without negative effects on online game play. The topic creator, though a bit misguided, is correct when he says that if they make the graphics, or too many effects, too intense during a segment of online play, it will and can cause lag. Heck, you can see the effects of this on some OFFLINE games (frame rate loss when the action gets heavy). But Nintendo is not dumb and wouldn't make a game that is heavily slowed down by lag and frame rate loss.

32 players, NO WAY! Mario Kart is NOT a game that is suited for more than 8 players. The tracks do not support that amount of players, and it would get very confusing. A lot of what makes Mario Kart fun is attacking specific players and having personal battles, and that would be lost with too many players. I'm sorry, but I simply think that Mario Kart should be limited to 8 players only.

First off graphics and online capabilities have nothing to do with each other, second 32 players is silly since there are only 8 people in the race. Therefore only an 8 person maximum is necessary.
