This is footage of Sonic: The Fighters. Originally a Japanese arcade game, it saw US release in Sonic Gems Collection for Gamecube. It runs on the Virtua Fighter engine, and it's actually a pretty good game. It shows its age now, but it's still enjoyable.
I know it isn't the same type of fighting game that Smash is, but this does show that the basic principle works pretty well. His basic combos could transition right into Brawl, and we can plainly see the spin attack.
I know a lot of you think that Sonic wouldn't make a good Brawl character, but I believe otherwise. A few attacks would have to be made up, this is how I see his moveset: Down B-Spin attack Up B-homing jump Forward B-Sonic boom (an air strike creating a projectile, like Guile from Street Fighter)
And then his A attacks would be copied from this game. Smash A- large kick or punch Smash Up- Upwards kick (see video) Smash down- Leg sweep
I don't see why Sonic wouldn't be in Brawl either..If Pikachu can fight Samus I think Sonic could fight anyway...though I guess Sonic isn't a true Nintendo character..But its hopeful due to the Olympics game coming out.
Also I vaguely recall playing a Sonic fighting game at a Arcade when I was probably like 9 or something...
I'm in different to his inclusion... but his whole history is from SEGA consoles... he wouldn't have a stage of his own, or his own items, and the award system they use in Brawl couldn't depict his history because it's not Nintendo. Sure, he could be given attacks and stuff, but it would just be Sonic and nothing else. Green Hill Zone as a stage wouldn't work because it was from Genesis and his most recent games kinda blow so....
dude I can tell you from looking at the vids that game is horrendus anywyas ya I guess it could could work but I could really care less don't even try backing that game up

It's very, very ignorant to judge a game having never played it. I've played the game, and it's fun. It runs off the Virtua Fighter engine. I don't care what you think of the game, but to write it off as bad is ridiculous.
the problem with sonic in a fighting game which dont belong to his own is that hes way too fast to compare... which is what i think anyone who says he doesnt belong is trying to point out... but, if we put in someone like that fat purple guy, it would be a better match... yet, how can you have characters from another game be playable but not the main character? i think sonic should be in a game and just be fixed so that he can work out better... perhaps tinker with his stats? like, high speed low defense so he takes more damage or high speed low attack?
Just about any character can work with Brawl. The developers can make up wacked-out moves if they need to. I think the only requirement is the character have some limbs.
I see no reason why Sonic couldn't be in Brawl and why he shouldn't be I mean he's more recognisable character than say Meta-Knight. That sonic arcade game looks pretty decent considering the age of it as someone mentioned it is like VF1 which was almost the king of fighters, Mortal Kombat is the daddy ;)
Also there is another game of sonic with fights as the principal mode it is Sonic Battle for the GBA. So I don't have any trouble with Sonic in SSBB he knows how to fight. And the developers are smart people and can make him a balanced fighter.

That game is terrible and yes I own it through Sonic Gems Collection. How can you compare it toa masterpiece such as Virtua Fighter?
I hope they add more sonic friend s i am not a big fan of sonic but i do like knuckles and i like shadow more then sonic so if sonic in there i hope they are too

All Mario could do was jump in his early days so if Mario can be in the game why not Sonic?sakura_Ex
Mario also got a Hammer, fireball, and other power-ups and items he uses. Sonic hasn't evolved. He jumps and spins. He could punch and kick too but other than that, Sonic couldn't do anything. I don't even see why people want Sonic in it either. I've never played a Sonic game I've liked except for one and that was when I was young. I went back to play it and I realised how bad it was.
does anyone remember what made smash brothers so great? nintendo characters vs nintendo characters. plain and simple. but now thanks to fanboys, that basic premise that has held a place in all our hearts will be poisoned by the appearance on non-nintendo characters. It goes against what smash bros has stood for for so many years. but as everything great in history, it must come to an end...or continue to corrupt itself slowly through time because of blind wishes and misguided thoughts. Sigh...rest in peace, integrity.
