How good is the internet browser on the Wii? In other words, how's the functionality? I heard it's very stripped down and limited. If it's that bad, I'll just not bother setting up the connection for browsing the internet and stick with my computer.

Don't bother with it. It gets the job done, but its no where near as good as a computer.

It's good to do things like watch Youtube from. However, it is stripped down, and messes up frequently. (That could be my connection, though.)

It's alright. Better than PS3's browser imo.

It's atrocious, mostly due to the low resolution and lack of memory. (it is better than the PS3 and DSi browsers, though that's not saying much)

It's pretty terrible. It's slow and it had wifi issues for me. Not to mention the very low resolution just makes it an illegible mess. Just use your computer, or hell even a smartphone has a better internet experience.

Nothing will be as good as browsing on your computer. It's no worse than the PS3 or DSi browser though as everyone else has said, actually its a bit better because of the pointer. Its not necessarily Nintendo's fault though as Opera makes it and I doubt they put that much effort into it as most people don't browse through consoles.

Well, it's...OK. the main problem is that it can take a while to load sometimes, and typing is really annoying. Typing should be fine if you have a wireless keyboard, but it's still worse than a computer. Like others said, it's good for something quick, but other than that, it's kind of a waste.

The internet for the Wii isn't that bad yet again. It isn't the best either.

Well it's not entirely Opera's fault. The Wii, like most consoles, is only enough hardware to run games nothing more. The Wii doesn't have the fastest processor around, according to Wikipedia it's only clock at 729 MHz. The Wii also only has 88 MB of memory, which isn't very much at all. And with only 512MB of flash storage I doubt the browser does too much caching. Opera probably did the best they could within the limitations of the Wii hardware.

True, but it's mostly powerful enough to do most things on the internet. The Wii's tech can't be completely compared to a PC as it doesn't have a bloated operating system killing the resources. You are probably right about caching though. I imagine they could do a little more as more complicated browsers ran on PCs back in the day that were way less powerful than the Wii. I used to browse on a 100MHZ processor with 100MB HDD and 32MB ram. Either way it's not a huge deal, as most people have access to many devices with browsers on them.

Once in a blue moon when I was stuck in a game I'd go on it for a guide... but you'd have to quit your game and it's not very fast to type and stuff... now I just use my iPot Touch for that :P

then an update happened and it hindered my experience with the Internet Channel.

Same, it's pretty much the perfect device for popping up guides while you're playing. And GoodReader is easily the best app for storing and keeping track of downloaded Gamefaqs guides.

It is completely useless for most things, although, like said, it is alright if you are just reading some news, an article on a website or webmail... everything else is pretty lack luster.

the browser works. not as well as a pc, but it gets the job done. I had to use it when my old laptop broke before I got my gaming rig, and I had no real complaints. and you'll have to set up the connection anyway if you want to play online. and it's not exactly difficult or time consuming, so you might as well just get it over with.

It's okay although you'd have to zoom in to read articles. The Wii's WiFi does YouTube pretty well and it rarely had problems with our D-Link WiFi-N 300 router. I do connect a USB keyboard when using the Wii's Opera browser. It makes things so much easier. I do like using the Wiimote as a pointing device.

It takes a while to load GS and even longer to load the PC forum's "What Game are You Playing" screenshot thread stickie. The Wii loaded it up eventually.

It's decent, have used it on a few occasions. Usually because I wanted to see something real quick and didn't want to boot up the computer just for it.

It's fun for playing flash games with your Wii controller. For browsing...who the hell just browses the internet with a console?

Thanks for the replies guys. I plan to play online, so if I'm gonna set up the internet connection, I might as well check out the browser. I thought setting up the browser and playing online were two different processes- as I don't have a Wii yet (but getting one pretty soon). From what I've read, it sounds like it can do just what I need and nothing more. I wanna just kick back on the couch, browse some forums, read some articles, check email, and watch some videos. If it can do all that, then I'll be perfectly content. The joy of browsing the internet from my couch under a warm blanket on a cold night beats typing stiffly on my freezing ass-frostbite-provoking chair in my room. Go technology.

you can buy a wireless keyboard, it makes everything easier
