I'm wondering if the game carts for DS can screw up, or be easily damaged like a CD or DVD can be scratched.

I've had Mario Kart DS for about a year and a half, and yesterday it stopped working. In the start up menu of the DS it would recognzie that it was Mario Kart, and it would show the MK icon there, but when I click it and it tries to start up it comes up with:

"Unable to load data. Turn the power off and reinsert the game card."

After trying several times with no luck, then returning after a few hours, it actually worked, but when I tried to play an online race it froze, and now it won't start the game again.

Any trouble shooting options or ways to clean the carts does that anybody can suggest?
