Hi Everyone.

My name is Oliver.

Since i was 4 years old i played games, and that was back on the NES. Back then you couldn't have many standards when it came to gaming, and most of the time every game was alot of fun (maybe my age had something to do with that, but whatever)

Today we are at 3rd-gen consoles, and 1st-gen when it comes to hand-helds (well actually alot more, but we are counting from the day Sony and Nintendo started theyre war)

Now something that has been on my mind for a long time is this: By now, it would seem the DS is ruling the hand-held war, and personally i understand (and i hope you guys do to, as you are in the DS forum, probably more into the DS than PSP then)

But what pisses me off, is the fact, that the games for DS is so much fun, but they dont seem to be able to mix "good graphics" with "great gameplay"... now why is that? I mean, we know it's capable of nice graphics, we have Indiana Jones, Star Wars Lego, and FF3. I mean i know all of them is abit chunky 3d graphics, but it works, and it to makes the game a whole lot fun.

3d graphics can improve a game alot, by the fact that it can make you go through where you can acutally move in a million directions, there for, make the game bigger, and tracks, levels, whatever kinda game you play - alot more fun.

I love 2d games, it's not that, but dont throw so many crappy 2d games on the market, that could actually have been something fun. I mean, look at the new hulk game - what the **** maan :P But couldn't it have been fun if it was in a 3d world, they could have made it more like the 360/PS3 game (dont say they couldn't, maybe graphics, would again be more chunky, but they could)

I dont expect a game like Call of Duty 4 on the DS to show details in the face of a character, to me it dosent even matter if the figures have eyes, or mouth when the machine is that small anyway, but CoD4 was at least 3d, and there for made the game a whole more fun.. imagine it in 2d (what a crap load of non-fun just to walk to the right all the time, and shoot at incoming characters, would be like mobile phone games, i aint paying for that kinda stuff :P)

As earlier said, i love 2d games, in fact i think there are alot of 3d games, that sucks beeing 3d. Mario, Sonic, Simpsons the movie the game etc. All of those are a hell of alot better in 2d.

But what i'm saying is: Why are game developers taking advantage of the machine, and making more 3d games, when it is possible. It's about time we completely defeat the PSP not only with the great gameplay, but also by graphics. I know details may be hard to make, but final fantasy III/RoF, lego indiana jones, SW the original saga, they are all fun, and i do think they would suck in 2d...

TAKE ADVANTAGE GAME DEVELOPERS, DONT JUST THROW GAMES ON THE MARKET, WHEN THERE IS A POSSIBILITY TO MAKE YOURE GAME PRETTIER, AND MORE FUN... go ds

Please comment, would be nice to hear if people have the kinda same oppinion like me :)

Developers do, actually. Team Ninja spent 2 years on Dragon Sword and tested the DS' capabilities to the limit. The DS' hardware just can't compete with the PSP's, graphics-wise.

Well, seems to me that developers see the DS as a 'good gameplay' challenge istead of a graphical one, meaning that it opens opportunities for creative, innovative design instead of pushing its limits, which I'm sure aren't all that interesting to graphic-savy devs. I know that the team behind Dementium, currently working on Moon, is doing their best to make the game look amazing, and as much as I appreciate that, I appreciate good gameplay more.

I'm with you, good gameplay AND good graphics make great games, but the DS is almost all about the gameplay, and I'm happy with that :)

i completely agree. there is no reason to throw 2d games at us when the ds can perform 3d pretty well. im final fantasy iv is the first ds game to use full voice acting, so why do we have to continue to read freakin text?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!? side-scrolling bothers me, moving in any direction make me happy.......

Mostly because mind-blowing graphics can't really save a game with 0 content, which can be seen on most console games nowadays. Sure, graphics mean a lot to some people, but gameplay will always overshadow graphics in the long run. Look at plenty of classic games. They were great because of what they offered, the innovation, or simply the masterpiece they were.

I have always loved the Gameboys and now the DS for having simple graphics, but the games can have depth and hours upon hours of gameplay which is still offered in many DS titles today. If anything, we should be applauding most of the development teams that work on DS games for giving us great games that for the most part, ignore top notch graphics. Why? As I stated, many games nowadays think that having eye candy with 0 gameplay will justify their work and make it a great game.

Topics that encompass multiple systems (e.g. DS and PSP) belong in System Wars. Thanks.
