IGN's preview is better IMO.

Still, the new changes sound really good, the online sounds beefed up (still no voice chat, wtf Nintendo?), and snaking seems like it's pretty much dead.

Could Mario Kart get much better? :D

I liked having two people on one kart. :( Created some strategy in choosing your drivers and made some crazy co-op races.

ahh finally the snaking has been killed about time,

"Of course, the question of "snaking" came up, whether multiplayer games are going to boil down to what's happened with Mario Kart DS: players simply powerdrifting on every possible straightaway as rapidly as possible. Well, with the new powersliding mechanic it makes it difficult for quick fingers to get more boosts than the racers with slower fingers. So perhaps this is Nintendo's way of combating the awkward "love it/hate it" snaking mechanic.""

best part of the article aside from the online announcements

but im getting this, hopefully when brawl is released this game will get the attention it deserves and needs

there's still no date for it yet right? (in the U.S.) Ninty couldn't release it anywhere near Brawl, could they? Consumers would be hemmoraging money at them, but still. It'd be a marketing strategy change! One that I'd appreciate and hemmorage towards.

I don't understand how drifting will work with the wheel control scheme. If the button on the back is used for items, then what button would be used for drifting? Also, I really liked the powersliding system in MK DS, I don't want it to go.

I believe the Up/Down buttons are for items (for firing forward and backward respectively). 1 is accelerate, 2 is brake, that leaves A, B, Left and Right on the control pad (likely for drifting left/right) and the Plus/Minus/Home buttons.

Powersliding was nice, but it was too easily abused and hurt the fingers. At least this way it's a little easier for newcomers, can't be abused for snaking, and it still gives you an appropriate reward for how well you boost (more drifting = bigger boost).

i agree that this game is being overshadowed by brawl, but i'll still get it on release day. I honestly do kind of hope it's pushed back a little while. Way too many games coming out march/april (I have a wii and a 360)

This is the Nintendo franshise i was waiting for :) The Super Smash Bros series, which everyone is talking about lately, really never convinced me.

It seems Nintendo is really taking the right aproach to the game, multiple control schemes and time records refer to controls used, online races ranks statistics, classical and new tracks, bikes!, 2players online in the same console! :)

I just hope the online experience is balanced enough (the DS version really lost the fun once it was all about "snake" powerslides) and is more oriented towards skills and weapon destruction.

Also, hope they don't forget BATTLE mode online (like they did with DS) and get maps inspired in the N64 version. The battle mode maps in the GameCube were too simplistic and felt small. I know there are people who enjoy smaller maps with as much chaos as possible and i'm not saying to banish this, just variety for both tastes.

OMG...

"A nice feature of the online mode is the option to have 2 people play online"

I`m still reading the hand on.. but that is brilliant!!!!! :D

EDIT:

"One interesting perk when using the Wii controllers is that audio cues can be heard coming out of the Wii Remote speaker, allowing you to dodge incoming shells and the like."

again.... NICE... :P

If that is the case (using just up and down on the d-pad for items), then what would the b button do? It would be really wierd using my left hand for drifting.
