Well, GameStop is offering 50% on all consoles traded in period right now, but if you trade in your DS console you can get some serious savings come March when the Nintendo 3DS comes out.

Depending on the DS you have, you could net up to $100 or more towards the reservation of a Nintendo 3DS

More info at the link (like specific amounts of $ you will get for each DS model)

http://gimmegimmegames.wordpress.com/2011/01/05/trade-in-your-ds-to-gamestop-get-50-extra-towards-a-3ds/

I'd think since GameStop isn't currently running an actual 3DS trade up promotion, this will actually net you more money because I'm sure the values for your DS consoles will be even less come March

lol, $75 for your DSi. What a rip off. No thanks, I'll buy elsewhere by the time the 3DS releases.

Yea not the best option, but certainly noteworthy

DSs sell for around that price on Craigslist in my town, a bit more, so you could sell them elsewhere and make more money

Also the ad is worded poorly - Makes you think that you're getting 50% off of a 3DS for trading in your old hardware. It's kind of sad that video games and video game hardware depreciate so quickly..

Yeah, that's what I thought it meant. Sounded like a good deal at first. Though I don't live near a gamestop anyway, and even if I did, I need my GBA slot.

But even with the 50% extra, those are all ripoffs, except for XL maybe.

Having a spare DS to use or give seems like a better idea. Make someone you know happy, whether they know they want a DS or not. That's not much money. A DS is worth a lot more than what they're paying.

The ad, and the topic title. Trade in the DS and "get 50% extra toward a 3DS." That makes it sound like you get half off a 3DS for trading in your DS.

Well seeing as though I changed the casing on my DS lite (and my touchscreen acts kinda flicky) I probably would be able to do anything about this 'offer' anyway. Plus, 25 bucks is laughable at best. Even w/ it's imperfections I could still get a helluva better deal selling myself on Ebay or where ever than giving it to Gamestop. And seeing as though I just recently gotten my DS XL (just yesterday!) I KNOW I'm not selling that anytime soon.

Most definitely I'd tell anyone to sell their DSs themselves, especially if you have XLs or DSis--as you'd most certainly get a better deal (if not close to equal of what you paid for it).

I already got a good deal trading in my DSi for a DSi XL. If i do this deal, then I am losing over $100 dollars. I dunno if i want to do that...

I never take advantage of Gamestop's trade deals unless it is totally in my favor, like once I traded in the original Endless Ocean like 2yrs after it came out for ME and a few bucks toward NMH2, I would definitely say I got the better of that deal;

. It's a blog post, not an ad. Also, it says trade your ds and get more credit towards the 3ds. Because you get more on the trade value, and if you use it towards the 3ds reserve, therefore it goes towards the 3ds purchase and you get that amount off your purchase. But thanks for the critique I will try to be more clear. Also wooooo GoNintendo used my blog for a story on their site!

This sounds pretty cool and all, but man...I love my DS lite. It's practically in mint condition since I put it in a casing like right after I got it xD

Think I'm just gonna have to end up buying this thing full price :/

Too bad the hinge on my DS Lite recently cracked or I would consider taking advantage of this deal.

People frequently claim this, but I've not often found it to be the case. After you factor in all the eBay seller fees, it's not unusual to end up with less than if you had simply sold your game or console to Gamestop. For example, I recently traded in Mario Kart DS and got $25 from Gamestop. A quick look at eBay says that I actually came out ahead of most sellers. Also consider that demand for previous DS models is going to plummet once the 3DS is released.

Let's hope it's before your temped to trade in your DS, don't think about it man...bad deal all around. If you want $75 for you DSi, find a friend who doesn't have one I'm sure he will take it off you for that much.
