You could wait until the new DS Lite colours come out (I don't if they are exclusive to Europe though?)
Although I have solely been a DS Phat owner since 2004, I have friends and family who own DS Lites. I have to say that they are definitely more comfortable to hold and use than my DS Phat. Yes, I have heard that they tend to be less durable, but that shouldn't be a problem if you take care of it. Finally, any other problems with the DS Lite tend to be insignificant, rare, or fixed in newer batches, so I would not worry about purchasing one.
DSes are pretty cool. I've got the crimson and back one and it looks really cool. I also recently just bought a PSP though because the DS was really boring because nothing interesting has really come out since The World Ends With You even though that is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm loving my PSP right now though and the only DS games that are interesting to me in the future are Guitar Hero and Bleach. Let's hope we get some awesome announcements at E3...
The white DS Lite is pretty, but it gets really dirty really fast and the engravement on it from the Nintendo World Store is barely visible thanks to its color. I wish I got a gold triforce one.

search gamespot for "Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia" Its current release date is fall 2008, with an absolute deadline of 2009. It's also supposed to have Wii connectivity. now to get back on topic, since it has adjustable brightness the DSlite also has a much better battery life. btw, other than a slightly scratched screen and a battery that's not holding as good a charge, my DSphat that i've had since shortly after release has no problems what so ever. and I use it alot too!

Yeah I knew about Castlevania. It does seem pretty interesting and I like the art style of this one more than the anime look of the other DS titles. I may pick it up.
