Who else here thinks nintendo should completely get rid of the blue shell? In Mario Kart of course.
I mean, when you get hit by it, it sucks...bad.
But when you get it in a box n throw it to someone else, it feels good, and it helps.

I voted yes, but I actually think they shouldn't completely eliminate it, more like reconsider how often it should pop out of a item box. On Mirror I once got hit by a POW block and lightning at the same time, then two blue shells one after another a second later... See what I mean?
I have no problem withy the thunder cloud, at least that can be countered.
I disagree with both of you. The blue shell, although it is annoying, is effective and adds to the gameplay. Most of you just don't like it because you have had bad luck, but you can have bad luck with any Mario Kart item. And the lightening cloud is great. I love the idea of having an item that can be transfered from person to person by bump.
haha
what i like about the thunder cloud is that it temporarily makes you faster, so if i have it, i save it until the last lap so i can just pass everyone :)
o trust me thats nothing.
once i actualli kept count.
i got hit with it 8 times. i was in first the whole race....8 times!!
Regardless no one has responded me earlier...
So, a barrier that could protect you from a single blue shell would be nice, like an item that only comes to you when you're in the first place, and it is useless unless you use it in the exact time against a blue shell...
haha

Lies. The cloud is used immediately.

lol i was going to post about that. Well since the blue shell usually comes for people around sixth place, it can somewhat help the sixth place player, but really it does help the 2nd and 3rd places. I can't tell you how many races I've won, being in 2nd because 1st place got shelled down. Remove the pow block, or lightening, and make the blue shell hit anybody on it's path to 1st. That would be more practical.

i actually like the Pow Block, as long as you know how to keep your speed it doesn't hurt, except you lose all your items...that sucks. But yeah it would be more practical if the blue shell hits others on the way to 1st position.
I voted for don't care for two reasons:
1) You should be far enough ahead so that if it hits you, it won't matter.
2) If it is a close race, it takes out anybody that's close to you, so it won't matter.
I do like what was mentioned before by changing it back to letting it travel on the ground.

1) thats all and good until you get hit with multiple blue shells and maybe even some red shells.
2) If its a close race then the people behind 1st and 3rd will get ahead.
i think no items should effect you in the air cause you get screwed big time if you hit a jump and get hit by and blue shell or lightning. also this thing about traveling on the ground sounds good.
The only thing I hate about the blue shell is that too many people use it as an excuse.
Mario Kart Wii is the first game where the blue shell can actually have a real, negative effect on you. In all the other games, it appeared infrequently, and the AI used the shell much less than the human players could. In fact, the AI almost never uses a blue shell in Mario Kart 64, and human players rarely get it. They appeared more often in Double Dash, but again, you're much more likely to use one than get hit by one.
I've said it time and time again.... Mario Kart Wii is the first game to have twelve human players at once, and it takes some getting used to. The older games always gave the human players an advantage over the AI in terms of weapons. It's more balanced now when playing online because there aren't useless AI drivers at the back of the pack or cheating AI drivers at the front. The older games had to provide an artificial means of balance by tweaking the AI and giving human players certain advantages and disadvantages that weren't shared by the AI drivers. They did a great job of providing a sense of balance in MKWii with every player being unpredictable.
And I have to point out once again that a case of getting hit with several blue shells in a row is a very rare occurence. It doesn't happen "every time" like so many people claim. We just remember those times more clearly because they're so ridiculous. And the funny thing is that I bet many of the people complaining about the blue shell have a pretty high VR score. If you're in first place enough to get hit with so many blue shells, then you're bound to get positive points in most of the races, regardless of the few times you get hit by eight blue shells in one race.
I hate that shell, I was in first place by a mile, and then I slip on a banana, but still have enough room to finish in first, but alas, the dreaded blue shell comes flying, blowing up my cart, and my chances for victory, and then my girlfriend dumped me.
Damn you blue shell!
I vote no. Its less annoying than:
lightning
cloud
POW block
I think you should be able to configure items and create a lobby (called "no blue shells" for instance) so if enough people wanted to play that way then they could.
What i would like is maybe a 5 second immunity after being hit or falling off, to avoid those moments when you get hit after hit.
I recently hooked up and started playing my Snes. And I have to disagree and say the comp had an advantage over the human players in SMK. Sure they didnt use lighting, and the red shell. Even so each one had their own special ability in which they could constantly use. Comp Characters had : Mario & Luigi : Infinite star Peach & Toad : Mushroom (In which shrinks you for like a whole lap) DK Jr. : Banana Bowser : Fireball Yoshi : Egg Koopa : Green shell Anyway to be back on topic.. compared to the Snes version, I can honestly say the Blue Shell isnt as bad as Luigi or Mario cheating their way in first place and turning on star mode every five seconds. I get much more aggrevated when I play the Snes version, cause you go from first to last alot easier. Edit : Considering you could get a star in 2nd place helped abit though. The only thing I hate about the blue shell is that too many people use it as an excuse.

Yes! Someone in last place lets loose a blue shell, and it rewards the people in 2nd and 3rd place who did absolutely nothing. The blue shell is the only really cheap item.Rocky32189
I agree 100%.

Check my most recent blog entry. I won't repeat everything I said there, but I think we're pretty much on the same page. In short, the AI uses an entirely different weapons system in SMK than human players do, so there isn't any sense of "balance" whatsoever in that game in terms of weapons.
I've played all the MK games extensively in preparation for this series of blog entries... I just haven't had time to write them all up yet. Mario Kart 64 is the next target, and I should have that done by the end of the week, if anybody's interested.
They should make the Blue Shell travel on the ground again where it could hit other players besides the 1st one. What I want Nintendo to get rid of is the stupid Lightning Cloud! Whoever thought it was a good idea to include it should be fired! :evil:Kenny789
Lightning Cloud and POW Block are the only ones that need to go. I (and everyone I've played with) only ever get it when there's a huge gap between me and everyone else. The POW Block is just annoying, and appears way too often. That's also the issue with the Blue Shell: They appear too much! From now on, the only player who should be able to get that should be in dead last, or somewhere near there, and even then, it should be as rare as it can be.
Really though, what MK needs is an Item Switch feature like in Smash Bros. Then, nobody could complain! I would only put on green/red shells, bananas, fake boxes, and a few "catch up" items, including all mushrooms.

Are you aware that you can avoid the POW block every time? You still lose your items, but it's not that hard on you.
The items appear more often because there are 4 more players than previous games.
Blue shells and red shells ruin the competetive aspects of the game. The rest of the items either affect everyone or are more random like green shells and giant mushrooms so I don't mind those too much. When I play a "RACING" game with my friends, I do so to enjoy fun, friendly, FAIR AND BALANCED competition. Sadly, Mario Kart Wii does not deliver this. If I wanted a party game I would have bought rayman or warioware. The shells ruin any real competition in the game (and don't yall DARE try to say adaptability is skill because there are NO DEFENSE against these items except the red shell on rare occasions) and I feel like my friends and I might as well be playing dice or poker because of the game's randomness. I got rid of that sorry excuse of a racing game I am going to by a real party game instead.Glenlo
I think you're mistaken with what kind of racing game Mario Kart is. Competition was never Mario Kart's focus, it was multiplayer fun for players regardless of skill level. That is not a fault with the game, it's a fault with your expectations.

i hate getting blasted, then hitting the item i just dropped, then getting red shelled.. one hit at a time FWIW

Exactly. Mario Kart has never been a fair and balanced game. Ever. It's not intended to be, and it doesn't need to be. There are other racing games out there if you want pure driving skill for competition. Now that the Wii Wheel is out, we'll probably see even more. And some of them might even be good. Keep your fingers crossed. ;)
I think they should keep it, but seriously rethink how often it appears. Getting hammered by 2 Blue shells on the same lap is not even remotely fun.
I think Nintendo need to rethink the whole item usage in Mario kart anyway. MKWii just seems far too imbalanced.

I like that idea. Maybe it could be a mirror that appears for a second once you use it. You could even deflect the shell backward at the people in 2nd or 3rd place. That'll teach them for drafting:twisted:.
Or you could just be invincible for a few seconds after it hits you. That way no other blue shells or red/green shells could hit you until you pick up some speed.
