Im planning on purchasing a DS...this is the first time i am buying a handheld since the original gameboy (i stuck to the main console systems). However after seeing and hearing all the good stuff regarding DS, i decided to cave in and get one. However Im a bit behind on whats new in the handheld department, so i would seriously appreciate anyones help answering some of my questions.

What comes in the total $129.99 DS package? Do I have to buy a separate memory card or is there one built into the ds? Is the ds backward compatible only with the GBA? Do GBA games perform well on the DS? Thanks a lot for any answers!

The $130 package includes the DS, styli, and a wrist strap (as far as i remember).

Just like the GBA, all data is stored on the game cards themselves.

Yes, only the GBA.

They've worked just fine for me so far.

thanks alot. Regarding the saves on the game cards.....are the saves permanent or do they erase themselves after a set period of time?

Apparently, or from what I remember, the Flash cards can save memory for more time than a lifespan, so you shouldn't worry about it, or unless you compulsively save and save and save till oblivion
