I'm 21, and have been an avid Nintendo fan for more than a decade. You could label me, basically, as a "You name it, I've played it (or read up on it, just to stay on top)"--type of gamer. I'm on IGN every day, just to see how my fav company is doing..... The thing is, I feel, that as I have grown a little, and picked up other musical forays, that I've lost interest in the whole video game genre. Well, to get down to my inquiry, I'm just wondering if there's anyone else in the same situation. Borderline diving back in/ moving to a new hobby-- type of thing.....

Sorry if this doesn't interest you.

oh, btw, if you're cool, and enjoy meeting new people (or play drums)..... myspace.com/nimblemix

ya, I did it... i'm just as ashamed.....

I'm 24 and I'm deeper into gaming than ever. Its just a phase, towards the end of the SNES era I really lost interest, didn't think games were my thing anymore. Then I saw Resident Evil 2 which dragged me back in 8)

Once a gamer always a gamer I say.

I see where you're coming from, Nimblemiix. I don't feel that way and yet I understand what you're saying. Whenever I was younger I would play the video games and feel a sense of ... escape. Now usually I'll feel like I should be doing something more important and that I'm just wasting my time. It's kinda sad. It makes me nostalgic a lot.

Still, I love and will always love Nintendo. The Wii really helped me get back into the habit of game playing since it's got all those extra channels (like the Internet and news and weather).

Hey don't get yourself down, just don't play too often :P

Do you think movie fans feel regret when they slap the latest blockbuster into their Blu Ray player? At least your active when gaming.

It has for me. It's a mix between less appealing games, but more so less free time.

Most likely just a phase, I went through a no game phase for a while. It just takes that one great game to pull you back in

And as long as you don't overdue it -get all your work done- then there's really nothing wrong with having a little fun every now and then. I mean, if it's youre hobby, it's your hobby... right?

I'm 17, I've been playing games as long as I can remember (since 1, according to home videos), and I still hold a strong interest in them. I'd consider them my hobby, although I wish I could find another hobby, because it never sounds good when you say that all you do is play video games (unless you're on Gamespot). Hopefully I'll find something.

Oh by the way, have you always restricted your gaming to Nintendo systems? Because there are other experiences on other platforms.

In cronolocical order I've owned: NES, SNES, PSX, N64, PC (I'm a warez hound. to the day) Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, X-Box, DS, PSP... yep, thats it. I'm still playing new PC games, but not as much as I used to.

Oh yes... everything on that list, I later pawned for the next.

Dude, I totally know where you are coming from. I'm almost 22, been a nintendo fan for as long as I can remember(mostly cause I never did get that sega genesis for christmas). But yeah, I always seem to have a falling out with game right before they pull me back in. Usually I just need a new and exciting fix. Like last summer I was in a little 'mom&pop' video store at the Lake of the Ozarks where I found a SNES Super Scope for sale still in the box. Needless to say I purchased it and when I got home I found some games for sale for cheap(God bless Amazon and eBay) and within the week I was totally engulfed in superscopemania. That mania lasted long enough to get me to November 19th. And I was energized again.

Now I've felt the allure of gaming waning again, but with E3 on the way and my sudden relapse into Pokemon and Starcraft, I feel that I will never really outgrow this hobby.

I agree with tomarlyn, Once a gamer, always a gamer. Or at least until we all are forced to go to rehab for our addictions.

27 and definitely feeling it. The thing is, I'm just far more picky with what I play. On the whole, I need a story driven game with a depth of gameplay and then I get sucked in. GTA3, Zelda, almost all the Blizzard games, a good FPS. And now, without a decent PC and only a Wii, what I play is pretty limited. My interests have also widened. I actually read now...ooh...but that's not it. I'm into music and movies, and with a girlfriend and just trying to survive, I feel that gaming is now being allocated less time and energy in my day. Don't get me wrong, I still dig games and gaming, but...well I'm just repeating myself.

thats exactly the way i feel sometimes, i should probably sell most of my games cause i have way to many and usually i only play most of them once but i dnt like selling them cause you dont get any money from it (at least at gamestop). Some of the games i just stop playing all together (or never start sometimes but thats like only 2) and forget about them. But with the new generation im gonna get my wii and only have around 15 games(throughout this whole generation), im making it mygoal. Im also giving most of myold games to my sister. That way while im not playing as many games i can be more social im not a total loner but dont get out as much as most of my friends(maybe ill try skate boarding even though i suck).

I am 21 as well but haven't lost much interest in gaming. I just bought a Wii yesterday. However, the only difference I have seen is that I am more willing to let other people play games before me. When I was a kid, i used to argue with my sister over who plays the SNES or PS1 first, but now I am okay with letting other people play first. Yestaerday I was letting my uncle and nieces play WiiSports and I just sat down to watch.

Interest in gaming can jump and fall from time to time. When I was studying in college, I barely touched any video games due to constant study. Now I have a full time job, I am playing alot of games. I am sure you will pick up interest in gaming again as time goes on. :)

Im 19 and have been gaming for 15 of those years. Im not losing interest at all, but I have been limiting myself as of late due to other interests. To be honest though, nothing puts me in a better mood than having friends over and playing games.

I'm in the same situation. I mean, I still enjoy playing a good game of Super Swing Golf or shooting zombies in RE4 every now and then, but I've been less caring about video games. I've been buying less games than I have been in years, and after looking at what's coming up, there are very few games that really interest me.

Right now, I'm thinking Wii and Xbox 360 (I kind of plan on getting one once the price drops and they fix the ring of death issue) will be my last consoles. Why? Cuz I think gaming is going to get as far as them as far as gameplay and online functionality go. There's only so far you can go with graphics before I get bored, and so far Nintendo hasn't really proven what they have needed to with Wii yet.

I'm sure I'll keep them until I get really old (I'm 22), but I can't see myself buying any next gen consoles after this gen is over.

For me gaming is sort of a "get me going in the morning" sort of thing. I don't usually play any games all night or all day, just for a bit when I wake up. I don't know why I play this way, but I guess it's like coffee for me, except it doesn't make my breath smell bad.

Thats one reason I usually buy all of the consoles... When I get sick of one, I start playing the other. Atm I'm playing my PS3 heaps (addicted to Resistance & F1), but when I get sick of that (not for a while) I'll buy Resident Evil 4 for my Wii :)

Just go out and take a jog everyday! :P Then you can consider that as your hobby. And gaming for time wasting.

Because of the Wii i'm actually back into it a bit, but not just on the Wii.
I have basically stopped competing in games for 7 years now or so, and the past 3-4 years i've practically played nothing but the occasional demo.
At my 4th i got awakened to being a gamer.

Yeah i know how you feel. I'm far too old to be playing video games and often feel i should retire from playing them altogether. Then something new will come out or a certain game that is amazing and it keeps you going for a little longer.

I'm more into game now then when I started (pretty much at the start of the SNES age). I now got money to buy games on my own (and not just rent them), I now look into games down the road (where I used to say "Hey that looks nice. I want to play that."), and so on. Comparing the last few years over the first years of gaming (pretty much up till the end of the N64/PS age), I'm more into gaming now then I was back then.

Well, I have the same problem right now. I had a "phase" like that in High School and right now it's the same thing.

I took a break when the SNES/Sega Genesis era ended around 1996-1997. I was a huge hardcore gamer in that time. Then I have the choice between going with Playstation or the N64 (1998-1999). It took me 1 to 2 years before I choose. I went with the N64. When the GameCube came, I was like what am I going to do? I wanted a Xbox but Iwent with the GameCube. Note that every choice I made, I never regret them. Then more things had happened and video games were not my priority. Then Nintendo announced Revolution/Wii and the virtual console. I wanted to use it as the ultimate Retro-console ever made.

I'm asking myself what will happen after this gen. I was going to retire as an active gamer since I never had time to do what I want to do but still continue to follow the industry because I have plans to write a book (It's a huge and long project. I already begin it) about video games and culture around them like Americans are more axed with dark games but Japanese are more like with the weird and light games and then I'll explain what I'm going to write.

Now, I'm just a casual gamer with a huge knowledge of the industry.

I don't know if it's me getting older, but I am/was losing interest.

For me, it was because of two things. The first was I began to take gaming seriously. Up through the Dreamcast, I maybe read reviews in a magazine or on a website, but that was it. Once I started visiting forums, especially with all the negativity, it really killed my enthusiasm for gaming. This isn't just for gaming- anytime something becomes serious for me, it loses its fun.

The other thing is that I really prefer to play games with somebody. I can play Pro Evolution Soccer on the Xbox with my brother when I'm visiting home for an entire summer almost every night and enjoy every minute of it. But if my only options are to play games alone (online gaming doesn't totally help with this- it's really only enjoyable if it's someone who's my friend and just wants to have fun too), then I lose interest. I still need single-player games, just a good balance with multiplayer.
