I thought I would just come on to this forum to express my feelings about some reviews I have read on Metacritic about Grand Slam Tennis.

This is by far the best tennis game I have ever played, its so intuitive and easy to pick up even my gran could play it. I let my 55 year old uncle have a go today, and within 15 minutes he had mastered every shot available and thought the game was brilliant. How these supposed professional reviewers ever came to the conclusion this game deserves less than 85%+ is an absolute disgrace, and shows they don't deserve or warrant jobs as a games reviewers as they have no idea what they are talking about. If you have ever played tennis for real this game emulates everything you can do on a real tennis court especially if you use the nunchuck to control your player. I have never had a problem with the m+ not behaving apart from letting it synchronise for 2 seconds every now then before my serve, which is no big deal and you hardly notice you are doing it because it becomes second nature after a while.

Anyway this is the first time I have ever posted on this site, but felt so strongly about some of the unwarrented reviews by total amature reviewers on so called professional games sites I felt I had no choice. It really has made me lose all respect for some of these games sites as not only do they give the wrong scores out they wouldn't know a good game if it smacked them in the face. They shoud be ashamed of themselves or at least get a ticking off from their editors for underating a great game that they dont understand how to play.

They know who they are but are so arrogant they would never admit to getting it wrong, and would turn a blind eye if they got to read my post.

Great game, on-line smooth and no lag and a great learning curve. Brilliant!! but that's my view.

I almost didnt buy the game because some of the reviews. I considered V. Tennis over it. However my gut told me to get G.S.T. I still have some problems serving but I'm getting better. I LOVE THIS GAME THOUGH. Online lags a little however it doesn't ruin the excitment or gameplay when you are playing it. I am getting my butt kicked and just still enjoying the game. When I bought it I played two times of the regular game and was getting killed. However I don't even care about the basic game right now. I am enjoying the online play much more. Besides Mario Kart this is the second online game I really actually enjoy playing even if I am getting my butt kick like usual. Everyone buy this game!

i get ur enthusiasm for the game, but calling reviewers dumb and not deserving their jobs is going a little bit to far imo. i personally like resident evil that much, but thats just my opinion. anyways, i got GMT rented atm and i'm not sure about it. first of all the graphics are superb. i'm 2 hours into it now and my aiming gets better and i finally won my first game on easy (i'm playing with WM+ & Nunchuck). normally i'm really good in tennis games, so either this game is really challenging or i still need to learn a lot. there are still a lot of hits which go in another direction then i intended and sometimes the WM+ thinks my pulling back for the hit is the actual hit. also i thought there would be more players in the game and honestly i thought that there would be some ATP tourneys in addition to the Grand Slam Events. the commentary is also really bad (i heard like 5 different sentences so far?) aswell. imo those are enough critic points for less then 85%, but still it seems to be a great tennis game.

I don't have the WM+ yet but played this last night

I hit the tennis machine for10 minutes, struggled a bit to do top soin returns but then got into the game

I was getting beat pretty easily so changed to Federer and removed nunchcuk and then I started to do well.

It is similar to Top Spin and Wii tennis, but a lot more polished. I made less stupid misses (controllers fault) then the other two and unlike topspin you can rip some sharp crosscourters. The easy setting is still not easy. Yes this is the best tennis game by far on the wii, player line is awesome, cutesy factor a bit offputting. Tennis games a very hit and miss (pun intended) with people as some times your personal swing just doesnt interepret well by wiimote, stick at it and it all comes good. I started the first grand slam and have fought hard but won all the way through to the first round without a loss, learning curve and progression seem just about right. Just need to be able to hit top spin and sliders at will to really master this game and of course understand what time to play what shot. I love the fact you can be pushed so far out of court and then go for the miraculous winner in the bottom corner, on wii tennis you run out of room and on topspin no way can you create that angle. Its very satifying, can't wait to master it and go online

Are you going to rent VT as well before you decide which to get? That's what I may have to do but I'm pleased to hear so many good reviews about GST.

no i dont think so. i like the visuals from GST more and i dont like the arcade style from VT. now i'm 5hours into it and the controls are getting better, i'm just not sure if the game has enough replay value.

I'm not a big tennis guy, but I sure do want to rent this game. I bought Tiger Woods 10 with Motion Plus and I love every single moment of it. I am excited about Wii Motion Plus, so whenever I have the chance, I'm going to rent this game. :P

I haven't played Grand Slam, but I've had Virtua Tennis for a few days now and I'm simply loving it. It took me 2-4 hours to get my head around the controls (yes, it takes a bit of a commitment). Once you get it though, the game plays beautifully. You really have to have a bit of space to place since the controls require you to put a bit of back into it. I only really have a couple of gripes. One is that you have to turn on M+ every game you play, which is a tad annoying. Second, the coach/training part of the game doesn't really help you learn the maneuvers and such. To learn the game, just play against the computer, mini games or online. That was the best way I found to learn how to play instead of trying over and over to follow the diagrams the game gives you to play. Now to reiterate, I really love this game. Playing online is a dream, especially when you're destroying. Oh, and those game animations of when it shows your character swing is supposed to be a queue to follow through. The design works quite well and reminds me of how Mario Tennis 64 played. Quality game...

after playing like 6 hours of GST, i decided not tu buy it. why? the gameplay is okay and the controls are good, although they're worse then EA says, but my main issue is the bad career mode. sure, u can unlock skill etc but playing through the same 4 tournaments again and again? w/o some further motivation? it already felt kinda boring playing the australian open for the second time...

I have both games and like VT a lot better, in fact I never spend anytime with GST anymore because I would rather play VT instead. There are a lot of things I like about GST.. such as the look and sound. But VT to me has much better gameplay, and is a whole lot faster. The motionplus is utilized more (esp in serving!) and works a lot better too.

I've been watching a few of the videos for the game and it looks really fun to play.

I would probably rent it before I buy it, but I am a huge tennis fan, and this game looks great!

Rented the game and it's a blast to play. I just wanna see what's all the hype about and it deserves it. It plays well, the controls are tight, and the visual is heart warming. I haven't tried VT so I can't compare the two. FYI, man, people are tough to beat online! Haha, won only 1 game out of 10. :P Or maybe, I just suck at it, but nonetheless, great game.

Considering getting it, but I do have one question: can you create your own player? It's not a deal breaker, but I do love a good create-a-player; esspecially when there's online involved.

I'm getting it sometime soon, methinks. GameSpot's review seemed to be such a low score because they sucked at it. If you read IGN's review they say it requires practice.

And yes, you can create your own player.
