Grand Slam Tennis surely isn't as GS says is it?

I saw a video on giantbomb.com showing editors playing the game for the first time and they seemed to not have many issues (if any) with the controls.

I was just curious about people's thoughts on the game that have it.

Thanks for the help!!!

The GS review here, I think it's obvious the reviewer didn't have any true skill playing the game. It was too hard for him.

This might be a casualty of 1:1 motion controls. While I agree with the reviewer that there should be more of a tutorial to assist in learning curves, he might have been a bit hard on the game because of his lack of skill with tennis.

See if you can rent it.

Look at their complaints, they all involve the controls/difficulty. They clearly just suck at it.

Actually, an interesting thing happened over at Eurogamer; the game had to be re-reviewed due to substantial control differences between playing the game on a debug review kit and playing it on a regular home console. You can read the explanation here If GameSpot also uses a review debug kit (which I'm sure they do) , that kit can single-handidly be the cause of the low score.

That's actually a huge possibility. I'm pretty sure they've had to re-review games in the past because of this. Banjo Kazooie: Nut's and Bolts I believe had the same problem.

GS staff have been complaining about not being able to control wii games since the start... honestly the only way this could really be true is if they were unable to move in any normal sort of manner (which I highly doubt), they're controllers don't work properly, or they are biased the last seems pretty likely...

that actually brings some explanation on GS strange low score. Maybe that's what happened and they'll have to be honorable and re-review it as well. How can we ask if that was the case?

I know they are in Tiger Woods because i own the game, but haven't bought any of the tennis games (virtua tennisor grandslam tennis) yet. What i've heard so far is that if you take your time practicing and mastering them it will feel very close but none of the the games is really 1:1... let's say it's 1:0,9 hehe :P.

The best use for WM+ for now is Tiger Woods 10, let's wait for Wii Sports Resort.

this game is great. the only problem (if you call it that) is that you need some form of skill in the way of tennis.

i used to play tennis and reviews tha say it takes time are right. but within the first year of grand slam mode (i jumped right in, no practice or anything) i got to the final of wimbeldon and won the us open. it took me the aus open (didnt win a game) and french open (won two matches and the warm ups) to get the swing of things.

great game

actually, i would say yes. Because of the fast reaction needed to hit the ball. Its not like you swing and then the charactor swings, no that would really screw up your timing. You have to react during a volley just as if you were playing a real game. So, it has to be1:1.

Tigerwoods is not directly 1:1, there is some slight lag when you move and the club moves on screen, BUT, it is following your exact movement and speed, so it is 1:1 in terms of acurracy and the finess you have with your swing.

i guess that's enough... thanks :D my father loves wii tennis, but he'd obviously prefer a game that doesnt only require you to shake the controller, so i guess he'd like it. will check it out.
