Now, I know I'm gonna see a lot of people disagreeing with me (and that's Ok, opinions, DO count ) but Mario Galaxy, although the best-looking Wii game to the date, is not such a huge feat on the TECHNICAL side of things as The Conduit. An avid gamer might see that the game is not really that great on the textures, and that many of the great effects, are done by really, really, REALLY clever people,in a very simple way, for example the great looking hair of some characters (such as the Bee Queen) is not done hair-by-hair, or the really good light effects is only possible because the game works on either small places, or very simple spots, (and yet the game was NOT designed to be "on the stars" just to look good ), of course, much of the game IS STILL great, in the technical standpoint. On the other hand, you have The Conduit, now, again, a careful looker might have seen that the engine used in it (please... look the full tech demo, with the last part included, as that shows all of the specific things the engine can do) can achieve a lot of things, even by only seeing the first 15 seconds of the tech demos, you can see: Superior texturing (please, look beyond the models the demos showed... even if that Roman armor looked lame, it still had better textures than anything on the Wii), Great, very realistic lights/shadows, outstanding water and, most importantly, reflection of such, and, last but not least, it all runned on 30 frames per second, and they were going for a 60 frames per second image; what is so good about 30 frames? that the Wii is not really that powerful, yes, its not a gamecube, but it's no xbox360 either, and so, I'ts something full of merit for such a little developer as High Voltage to get to this level, and, that is why, it is my opinion, that, when graphics are the subject, The Conduit, beats Galaxy.

But of course.. God knows I'm not always ever right (hell... more than half the time I am wrong) so, your opinions? Do you see Galaxy as a better looking game? why? Shoot away!

PLEASE, THIS TOPIC IS NOT ABOUT WHICH GAME LOOKS BETTER, AS THE ART STYLE IN GALAXY IS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB, SO I ASK THAT COMMENTS ON THAT SUBJECT ARE AVOIDED. (also, I'm sorry for any misspelling or bad use of language, I'm not from an english speaking country)

Hahahahahahah. No.

Galaxy has better rendered objects, effects, draw distance, and yes, textures too. What we've seen of The Conduit is not impressive at all for the Wii, stop trying to convince yourself that it is.

Mario Galaxy. How could the Conduit win in the state it's in now? As of right now it looks worse than Prince of Persia on the PS2. But it could change has it actually gets into development.

as you mentioned, the art directions are completely different. SMG was a good looking game, but I honestly think the Wii can do more/better. I think the only thing that held SMG from looking better was all the moving objects on the screen. It in no way looked bad, especially for a Wii game...but I would never compare Galaxy to a somewhat realism game.

I honestly think that the Conduit would compare better towards MoH:H2 or MP3. (MP3 is a sci-fi so it would most likely be better)

lets compare screens, shall we?

MP3

http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/748547/metroid-prime-3-corruption/images/metroid-prime-3-corruption-20070826101137500.html

The Conduit

http://wii.ign.com/articles/867/867498p1.html

Those are just some quick comparisons. From what I can see (the pics), he Conduit is damn close to looking like Prime already. That's comparing a completed game to a non-finished product. Imo, I would assume it will be MP3 quality/better if given enough time, and the correct funding. I'm going out on a limb here for High Voltage, because this game could very well end up being a flop due to the controls....but if they are already die hard to pump the Wii up....I think it would be safe to again, "assume" that this game should turn out decent.

I'm rooting for it. I just hope EA doesn't get ahold of it. haha

DAMN RIGHT!!!!!! EA had better not as much TOUCH this game! They've done enough already!

I agree that both games have their own unique art styles, and I'm an artist. Let's look at it from an artist's point of view because games these days are works of art in their own respect.

First of all, I absolutely agree that The Conduit is the type of game to be compared to Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor for the Wii. The genres are pretty much the same, Metroid has aliens, Medal of Honor has real world environments. The Conduit showcases all of these things. *sigh*As for Mario Galaxy, it's a more, cartoony approach, extreme fantasy as looks go that is. It would almost be an unfair comparison in my opinion because the art styles are SO unique from each other. It's almost like trying to compare The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker to The Legend of Zelda: Twighlight Princess. COMPLETE OPPOSITES IN ART STYLE.

I say, wait for the game to be COMPLETED. THEN we can say if it looks on par or More impressive than Prime 3.

you can't compare a game with the tech video of the engine for a game in alpha beta or whatever phase it's on

well it depends on what you as a person fionds "pleasing". SMG looks pleasing though its not a 10/10 in graphics. at the same time a game like conduit can also look pleasing for the gamer who wants a more realistic real life look.

Both look good. Plus, it depends how the engine is used.

What we really need to see is a video of conduit being put through it's paces - then you'll get a good idea about how good it is and how good that engine is.

the tech demo is impressive for the conduit engine. if they can get all that running smoothly in a game then itll be a better looking game, at least on a technical level.

however the initial shots of the game (which are pre-alpha....has to be said..so theres loads of time to improve them) are very hit and miss. some look good, others (like the one with the tower in the distance) are not very good at all.

unfortunately a tech demo does not necessarily show whats really possible with a game. its essentially a benchmark and, although the engine can certainly do all that stuff, can it do it all at the same time while running all the other bits and bobs of a game (like AI and physics and game logic and having a few enemies on the screen)?

i really do hope that high voltage do pull it off though. unlike the other platforms, the wii could really do with a kewl FPS of its own. an engine thats built from the ground up for wii and made available for licencing is also a very good thing for the platform. best of luck to high voltage.

I actually disagree with you. Two reasons. First, Conduit is basically at tech demo stages right now, so we have no idea how big the environments are. Second - Galaxy's environments aren't actually that large. Any given planet is no bigger than an ordinary level...it's not like the Wii is rendering the off screen planets. Part of the reason a lot of the levels are a series of smaller planets is that Nintendo could make them look awesome because by themselves they weren't much, but the player still feels like it's one giant cohesive level.

*sigh*, thank u. id be one of those trolls who'll say, "this thread fails", but not today. simply put, this topic is seemingly pointless, ur comparing a game that was released last year to a game that doesnt even have a publisher, or a release date. however, i will be optomistic and say that the conduit in its current state looks better than games already on wii. considering the stage of developement that its in (where ever that my be) it is very possible that the conduit will surprass galaxy.

from the technical standpoint with the small-graded textures and overall smaller scale of effects... the conduit engine definitely has SMG beat

however SMG as a whole looks amazing - i am very intrigued and interested to see the progress of the conduit engine to see what it can produce practically

The Conduit can easily beat SMG's graphics because SMG is cartoon graphics while The COnduit is real graphics! If you compare The Conduit with SMG The Conduit will beat it any day!naruto3336

 If you read what I said in MAY then you would see that the last part has become true "But it could change as it actually gets into development". It use to look like crap some of the screen shots looked absolutely horrible, and worse then Prince of Persia. Now it has gotten a lot better.

Plus you can't ask for a true opinion because then it could be considered a fact. I guess it would be a true opinion if that is what a person really thought in which case it was a true opinion, because at the time I thought it look worse than prince of persia.

The Conduit can easily beat SMG's graphics because SMG is cartoon graphics while The COnduit is real graphics! If you compare The Conduit with SMG The Conduit will beat it any day! The Conduit is not even done yet but it is still better so imagine how it would be when it was done! The Conduit will go on to be better game than Super Mario Galaxy because it supports 16 player online while different modes! It supports Wii Speak and MotionPlus compatible! Super Mario Galaxy was good for its time but now The Conduit will be the best game on the Wii!naruto3336

1. So what if SMG has cartoon graphics, it doesn't mean that a game with "real" graphics is going to look any better?
2. Just because it has online does not mean that it is a better game than Galaxy, a game that isn't even online? So that can't be compared.
3. How can you say that it will be better? I can't say it's going to be worse, but seriously your hopes are SO high that you're going to dislike the Conduit when you play it. Galaxy was revolutionary for it's genre.

I'm not bagging The Conduit, it's just that I think it's not right to say that it's going to be heaps better than SMG so early into production. I personally cannot wait for it to come out but to say this is pretty far-fetched.

Like many people have said the Conduit is not finished yet so we can't really tell and also you are comparing two very different games. Conduit is a FPS with the more realistic graphics while SMG is more cartoony platformer. But to answer your question SMG right now, Conduit in the end.

Considering that this thread is over half a year old and keeps getting bumped repeatedly, I'm going to close it to avoid people trying to have a conversation with people who last discussed this in May. :P
