"Saving on SD cards is the way to go if you plan on downloading a lot of songs. The Wii system memory is then used as a "content cache." This means you only need to have the free space for one song in the Wii system memory (about 200 blocks). … The game automatically transfers the song… plays the song, and deletes it when you're done. … It all happens pretty quickly." - Karthik Bala, Vicarious Visions

Source

AKA -- time to start deleting some of those VC/WiiWare titles on my Wii to make space for GH:WT and I need to get a SDCard because my brother stole mine ...

Uhg, that's really going to suck. Nintendo better get their act together and release an alternative source of storage.

Oh noes! There is too much information in my head right now! I'm going to write down some stuff I memorized, then I'll hit my head until those thoughts are gone, then I'll fill my head with new information. I'll keep doing this until humans evolve enough to keep storing more and more in their heads.

What's that? You can already do that? So...I've been hitting my head for no reason? There's a word I like to use at a time like this to express my anger, but I knocked it out of my memory, and now I can't remember it. Oh well. It's written down on a piece of paper somewhere in this house...but it's such a hassel to find it.

Replace "head" with "Wii's system memory", "write down" with "copy to my sd card", "hit my head" with "delete", and "fill my head" with "download something new off the VC".

I say bravo to Activision for coming up with a decent work-around for the storage issue on the Wii.

Have to agree with you. I may not have any problems with deleting and re-downloading games, personally I don't find it a hassle. At least this way there is DLC for songs, and with SD cards being EXTREMLE cheap, there is nothing I can complain about here.

And to think: it'll be even more bloks with DLC and the custom songs you can create.

No, it won't.

Correct, the 200 blocks will be used as cache. The songs will be on the SD card. When a new song from DLC or custom made is to be played, it will load onto the 200 blocks of memory. When the song is done, it will be deleted, only to load the next one either from the SD card onto the 200 blocks which are now empty, or played from the game disk. Basically, those 200 blocks of memory will act as RAM if you will.

That makes sense since the SD cards are too slow to stream directly off of. That's a lot of blocks though. It look like I'll have to delete a bunch more VC games...

Seriously, Nintendo needs to stop being ignorant to the demands of its customers.
