[QUOTE="UnderTheIce"]To all you nay-sayers:
Microsoft and Nintendo are in competition on the CONSOLE front (arguably so; each is finding their own market, and doing exceptionaly well with their own endeavors). As for the handheld market, well we all know that Nintendo has had a stranglehold on that since the beginning of time.
Even if you had to put Microsoft on the PSP or DS's side, it's obvious they would side with Nintendo. Sony is their number one video game competitor (because the 360 and PS3 are so strikingly similar in performance and demographic). I beleive that Microsoft has realized this, seeing as how they have realeased a Mechwarrior and an Age of Empires for DS already, strengthening the DS slightly and slightly stiffing Sony, their main competition.
My point is this: If Microsoft released a Halo DS, I beleive much of the diehard PSP crowd would find more reason to get a DS or at least finally understand that the DS is more than a kid's machine, resulting in less revenue for Sony as a whole company. And well all know that Microsoft wants Sony to crumble.skye144
To topple sony it would take alot more than halo ds, sony sells so much more than games and game systems, tvs electronics, spiderman, etc. while halo ds might move a few psp players over to the ds it will do little in the way of crumbling all of sony.
Let me provide for you a small example of what one good peripheral and one good game with good3D graphics has done for the DS against the PSP amoung just some peolpe that I know: Datel's Max Media Player and Metroid Prime Hunters. I have known all too many Nintendo naysayers and too many Playstation people, and these people were amoung the factions of people saying that the DS is a kids machine while talking all kinds of hype for the PSP, whilea vast majorityof them owned neither. One day, while at work I decided to buy Metroid Prime Hunters and was playing it on my break when one of these people came up to me wondering what I was playing and when he saw it he said "Damn, I didn't think the DS could do that, I might have to get me one of those." and another co-worker saw me playing and was wondering what I was doing and when he saw it he was also really surprised by it and also expressed a desire to get a DS saying it looked like alot of fun. I have also seen some DS's sold forthis game and have wowed several other people by showing it to them.
The Max Media Player (I can't really talk about all ofwhat it does asmy post will likely be deletedif I do, but let me just say that it lets the DS do many of the same things as the PSP outside of games) has also swayed many a gamer that I have known from the PSP to the DS. Aboutone yearago, when I was still in High School, all the hype was for the PSP and whenever I defended the DS the best argument they could come up with was how the PSP could play movies and mp3's while the DS couldn't, and I have still known some people that the primary reason they wanted a PSP was for its media capabilities and weren't really interested in the DS. Then I bought the Max Media Player and started showing it to those people. One particular person who used to bring his PSP into work every day to watch videos (and was and still is an avid sony fan) now owns a DS and says his PSP is now gathering dust in his dresser. Another friend once said and I quote "I'm sorry man, but the PSP is immortal. The DS is good, it's what Nintendo guys like, but it's still mortal. Just below the PSP,but not quiteable to touch it. The PSP is god." He now owns a DS with a Max Media Playerand doesn't even think aboutthe PSP anymore. There have been about 6 other people that I have convinced to buy a DS over a PSP with the Media Player alone.
There is one avid Halo fan that I told about the Halo for DSwho wanted one immediately after I told him about it. Ironically, just before I did, we were talking about the DS and he said that he didn't want one because it's a kids machine. Then I toldhim about itandimmediately he said that if it did get released for the DS he would buy one. I also have come to know about 7 other major Halo fans after I had learned the project wascanned (and therefore haven't told them about it yet) who don't own DS's but I am all to certain would absolutely have to buy one if Halo came out for it. I personally have no interest in buying any of the currently released Halo's but if it were to be released onto the DS, then more than likely I wouldpurchase it as well.
Just from the two above mentioned things for the DS, I alone have convinced at least 10 people to buy a DS over a PSP. That should at least show how much of an effect two small things can have on a handheld war if you think of the widescale effect. Now just imagine how many gamers, X-Box gamers in particular who's preferred company doesn't have a handheld for them to buy,that are in sway over which handheld to buy, that are also Halo fans, whowould forget the PSP and buy a DS withoutdelayif Halo were to be released on the DS. My guess is that number would be astronomicle. This would be able to deal an effective if not utterly devestating blow to Sony's attempt on the handheld market. It seems to me like Microsoft also realizes this and is trying to use Nintendo to get rid of half ofSony's backsupport for the not so impressive PS3 sales (and don't try to argue the fact that if Sony doesn't end up doing to well with the PS3, the PSPand PS2 will be the primary things keeping the company going on a competative level). This would be aincredibly brilliant marketingstrategy that could very well mean the end of Sony's reign on video games in the long run, and one other thing we all have to keep in mind is that of the 3companies, Microsoft is the American one that we all know would love to kill off it's competition. Something else I'm sure we all know is that Microsoft and Nintendo were thinking of kind of teaming up together to take out Sony about what, a year or two ago? This game coming for the DS could very well be the end result of that conspiracy.
