Ok so Im an 26% into the game (I didnt play either of the other primes) and I keep finding are that all the hand scanners are for left hands... while I know this makes sense for Samus because she only has a left hand in that suit but why would someone making a spacestation make the hand scanner left handed if no one else has the same problem as samus.

Lol you can use the left hand too! I mean I guess they scan that it's Samus if the hand scan turns out to be left hand and right hand scan for anyone else. >.

I could be a freak, but I use my left hand pretty often for opening doors. I guess it really depends on where the hinges are, but I feel like most are hinged on the left so using your left hand offers easier access to entry.

Take a look at the doors you use on a regular basis. If they are hinged on the left then using your left hand means that your aren't moving your arm across your body to open it. Since the majority of doors are hinged on the left, it makes sense that it would only be natural for the trend to continue.

Kinda like how the width of railroads boils down to the fact that a roman chariot's wheels were spaced just far enough apart for two horses to fit side by side. If you really want the connection there, let me know and I'll go into depth on it.

it depends on what side of the door you are on... yes the hinges could be on the left but then when you go into the doorway turn around and now the hinges are on the right.

Speaking of doors, I want to make a ballot initiative to force all public restroom doors to swing outward. I like to be able to kick the door open when I leave, that way I don't have to worry about people who don't wash their hands after they wipe their butt. Of course this only would give you partial protection from germs because the same people who don't wash their hands before touching the restroom door handle are touching all the other door handles in the building too.

I'd really like to know what kind of lousy architects the Space Pirates are. Their super secure areas aren't exactly Ft Knox. What's the point of building a hand scanner if it lets anyone who comes along get through, the Space Pirates could at least build the thing to only react to one of their hands. And how does the hand scanner scan Samus' hand through her suit anyway? What's it using, gamma rays?

You're worried about the left-handed scanners?
What about the fact that Samus, THEIR ENEMY, can just put her hand on a scanner and walk right in?

What about the fact that in every level there are conviniently placed round holes for Samus to roll right through? And I'm not even going to get into the spider ball magnetic walls, or that screw-attack wall. I mean, I don't see anyone else using those walls.

What about those hooks in the ceiling that she can use to swing like Donkey Kong through the enemy base with ease? Most of them have jet packs anyway.

I love the game, but come on! It's like they want her to kill them.

thats not the point... the point is if you look at the hand scanners there is a left hand on there. No one has a cannon on their right hand except for Samus, so why wouldnt the space station have right handed scanners.... I know its a silly comment but I notice it pretty much ever time I scan my hand (except for those weird alien hand scanners) so just thought I would see if it bothered anyone else.

Well actually, to be more serious instead of being a jerk, I think that most people shoot with their right hand, no? So wouldn't it make more sense to make it a left-handed scanner if their right arm is holding a gun/phazer/taco launcher/etc.? If you're chasing someone, and you have a gun in your hand, it would just be such a hassle to switch every time you encounter a door.

Also, just because people on earth predominantly use their right hands doesn't mean that someone on a different planet would. I mean, their genes wouldn't be the same as ours. In fact, I bet alien creatures are both right and left handed.

Well when you are makeing a spacestation I dont think that you will be thinking "Hey we need to make this building in a way that people can run around with guns and never have to holster them even if they need to idendtify themselves to enter a specific door" These arent just any door, the normal door you just shoot and it opens, there are special doors.

Also, just because people on earth predominantly use their right hands doesn't mean that someone on a different planet would. I mean, their genes wouldn't be the same as ours. In fact, I bet alien creatures are both right and left handed.bob_newman
First off this goes against your last post and second they are human and im talking about the human hand scanners not the alien ones. Humans are right handed for the most part. Did you know that every country in the world salutes with their right hand.

I know these are silly things to discuss but I just think its funny that the game is designed to make you feel like you are a part of something big going on but there are little details like that, which make you see that everything is Samus specific.

I was just trying to come up with some excuses for why they use the left hand. I guess you took it seriously. Anyway, I think the other questions I asked are more important than the left-hand/right-hand debate. Look above to see them if you didn't already. ^

Maybe the advanced technology in the space station can sense that Samus is a lefty and therefore displays a left hand icon. Maybe if someone else went, it would show a right hand.

On a different topic, isn't Link a lefty as well? Wassup with Nintendo and their love for lefties? Does anyone know if Mario is left-handed?

Even if the Chozo, and Space Pirates are mostly left-handed, shouldn't their hand scanners be on the left-hand side of their doors? Most are on the right in the game.

It's kind of funny how many holes you can poke in Metroid's storyline, yet Metroid has one of the more developed storylines in videogames.
