First off, I'm guilty of trading in my old games to GS/EB even though I know that the value they offer is borderline criminal.

This trade-in offer was recently posted on their website: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/20off/

The only "qualifying" game that I would be willing to trade in for this offer is WW:SM, but then that got me thinking... "Why would a launch title be included in this offer and why does it seem to be the only launch title qualified?"

I searched through the Gamestop site to see what the rate was for a used copy, but it's not listed in their catalog. At their store last night, I checked the racks for a copy but didn't find one either used or new.

eBay has new copies going from $60-$70 and used copies in the $35 range, which is still pretty high for a launch title.

My question is... Is this game going to be or already one of those hard to find gems like MvC2 on DC, PS2, and XBOX? Should I just hang onto it and skip this offer?

I say keep it. The game is sold for $45-$50 even used.

My really good friend had it in 7th grade (Around launch), and I've never seen it again.

Too bad he just moved away one day and never told anyone where his family was going, or I could play it.

I've known that for a while now. I've been trying to get my hands on a [hopefully] new copy for too long, and as that link to Amazon shows, you're not going to do that without paying a heavy price. The game really is a blast to play, and I envy those that had a Wii around the time this game came out and was able to pick this up when it was still at standard price. This is one of those games I'm hoping Nintendo uses to kickstart a "Player's Choice" lineup for Wii, but I can't say I like the chances of that happening. :P

People, don't get your hopes too high.

The game has sold almost 1 million copies in North America. It's not a rare game, it's just high in demand right now.

When the dust settles, and everybody who wants a copy gets one, it will be worth just as much as other titles. Maybe a little more.

It's not a "rare gem" by any means, though.

it's rare in Retail.

don't know if it's actually "rare" but it has to be rare in Retail.

Well it's not in print. Any popular title not in print is rare in retail. Doesn't make it rare though. It's just that the people who have it, keep it.

No more heroes is in the same boat as well, most places have it listed as $70 or so. I wanted to try it recently and it seems hard to track down and what makes it worse is that I must have overlooked it a dozen times when it was really cheap in a double pack with red steel.

Ok, this we have to nip in the bud. See the pretty chart here? See how it never got above $50? Ever?

No game has stayed above MSRP used for more than nine months, which is sketchy since that was Wii Fit. Kororinpa and Mario Kart Wii did that for three months and very very few games have done it for more than one.

yes i know at those stores it wont go up higher than that, but when you cant find them at those stores many online retail places have it for outrageous prices and thats what i was referring to.

I was at our local Gamestop today and seen two copies of WWSM and I think they were like $35 (used of course). As for the No More Heroes comment, I went to four stores today and every store had it. Gamestop had multiple copies (3 or 4).

It's the holiday season, so the demand is up. In a few months you'll be able to get WWSM for $20 and NMH $10 again.

Maybe it's just me but it isn't that 'rare' where I live. I went to a local game store, Microplay, and they had a couple new ones and a couple used. Same with EB Games. and the new ones were 19.99 at Microplay. But if it's that much on Amazon, I guess it's rare.

You're freaking out about not finding a Wii game fresh after the Holiday season. Give it a month or so, when every store is stocked up again.

I don't really believe that it's rare, but you know how GS/EB is with their trade-ins... a game this old should fetch no more than $7 (store credit) from them. What made me 2nd guess was the fact that they list this title as one of the "qualifying" trade-in titles for that "$20 off anything" offer. Look at the other titles on the list. 98% of them are new, popular releases.

I'm from the Bay Area also (Daly City) and when I didn't even find the game listed on the GS/EB website, curiosity kicked in and, while at the mall (Serramonte), I tried to see what a used copy was going for. It was only 1 store that I checked, but they had no used or new copy.

My daughter used to love this game but hasn't really played it much since school started. If it's going to be one of those hard to find titles (regardless of price), it's better off if I hang onto it.

BTW... Tanforan in San Bruno had a couple used copies of Zack & Wiki for $12.99. I picked one up.
